  1. If this “council” was doing its actual job,the CBC would have been off-air years ago.Instead of the San Andres fault, isn’t there one around the Manitoba/Saskatchewan border we can pray to?

  2. Don’t you right-wing rubes know, you’re not allowed to make fun of or talk disparagingly about any Leftist. That’s a hate crime.
Everyone knows that only the Left is allowed to belittle, denigrate, and dismiss conservatives. It’s called honesty. And good comedy.
If you don’t fully understand this then it’s long overdue for you to be forcibly enrolled in some government re-education programs, so you can get your thinking adjusted correctly.
    P.S. 🙁

  3. Despite the fact that the male gay community is most likely to be the highest risk for contracting AIDS, an historic fact, it’th not nithe to thay that, and you are a hater.
Yup, facts are sure inconvenient for the PC community, and you shall be assimilated, resistance is futile, and you need a trip to the gulag, er, re-education camp.
Menzoid said nothing wrong, especially to a politician, the one group that needs to be held to a tougher standard. When politicians can be roasted for their Christian faith relentlessly, a gay politico must surely be able to be challenged because of his belief system too.

  4. THE CBSC is ‘voluntary’ in that you can voluntarily be part of it or you can voluntarily withdraw your application for a broadcast permit…
The CRTC had broadcasters setup their own council to avoid the state having a censorship board, but a state mandated censorship board is still a state censorship board. Being a member is a term of most broadcast permits, of course the CBSC will point out that members are free to withdraw and take-up their case with the CRTT…

  5. The part in the article that says, “The Canadian Broadcast Standards Council has ruled” is where they start to lose me.
    “ruled”

  6. Musn’t say anything that might hurt the sensitivities of any of the chattering class, they are refined and fragile. Now Mayor Ford on the other hand can take it, so it’s OK.

  7. So, where does “Member of the CBSC” stand on the Useless Jobs totem pole. Above or below ‘Butternut Health Assessor’?

  8. Menzies used exactly the same logic against Smitherman that has been repeatedly used against Ford. It wasn’t even a direct question, just a hypothetical scenario! It was not abusive or discrimatory. PERIOD.
The comments about Dale and Walsh are a bit closer to “abusive or discriminatory”.
But since we have “freedom of the press and other media of communication” in Canada, according to the Charter of Rights, it doesn’t matter. The only things that matter here are the laws against slander and libel.
The CBSC should disband itself. And Parliament should disband the CRTC.

  9. Menzies was *not* attacking Smitherman; in fact, it seems to me that he was affirming that questioning Smitherman about his sexual practices and presumably former drug usage was irrelevant and out of line. It appears that Menzies’ real crime was pointing out the bias of the Toronto media. That would be enough to get a charge brought against him and, given the history and composition of the CBSC, to assure his censure.

  10. If I have to sign into the bloody post every time I comment,(even when I check “remember personal info”, I won’t be bothering to comment!
