  1. Let freedom reign is right.
On behalf of the fellow that rents our land, thank PM Harper and Minister Gerry Ritz.
Now if only freedom could reign in the various marketing boards.

  2. Now if we could turn our attention to the Cheese, milk and egg marketing boards perhaps we wouldn’t get shafted every time we buy those products.

  3. I never grew much wheat here in Morontario…it seemed like the government just confiscated your crop.
The last time, inclement weather caused a lot of sprouting….making a proportion go feed grade (outside the wheat board)…in practice that lower grade paid better because you didn’t have to wait and wait and wait for 1st, 2nd and 3rd payments.

  4. Good on them!
It’s hard to believe that the nanny state nazi’s got away with it for as long as they did.

  5. If you say so.
In my opinion, noone will ever be able to calculate it, noone will ever really notice if the farming community is better or worse off.
    Why do I say that??
The UofS (fairly pro-board) put the amount of money injected by the wheatboard into the farm level at 500 million dollars (I don’t believe it is that high…. others sill will call that number negative)
Anyone remember the Crow rate?? In its last few years it reached as high as 1 billion in subsidy to the farmgate. Twice as much (atleast).
Notice if your farm is better or worse off now that it is 15-20 years later?? No?
So if 1 billion didn’t have much affect 15 years out. how are we going to notice whether we are better or worse off having lost the CWB and its +/- half a billion positive or negative to us??
The answer is we won’t. We will however feel better that we have more control. The rise and fall on our farms will be on decisions we make ourselves.
I think that is a good thing. But please don’t feed me a line of BS to tell me how incomes are up (or down) following the removal of the board. The calculation simply isn’t there.

  6. That was interesting,.. sorry for the double post. got connection reset message, and when I checked if it posted before I tried again…. there was 2 posted. odd
anyway, I would be much obliged if the second one was removed. Or if people would just ignore it as an artifact of the gremlins.

  8. Yes Barcs when it comes to marketing freedom, a precise dollar figure advantage could be hard to calculate. Prices are buoyant now and they will eventually fall but I think you missed the main point. IMO the argument was never about what the CWB earned or didn’t earn; it was more about the additional opportunities and farm numbers that were lost because of a statism ideology. Young people are looking at farming as a career again and isn’t that worth something.

  9. Well phil, you’ve posted on this site for years and still double post.It takes time to load posts so maybe our host should add that to the rules for people like you.No wonder that you did’nt take my advice and buy a farm and ride the so called gravy train.
