Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Isn’t it about time for Maher to get pissed and crash the CPC Christmas party?
Rocco Carbone:
“I gave money to the party?” he said. “I never gave no money to no party.”
Technically, he didn’t lie nohow.
Liberal media + Quebec = Corruption
Good headline grabbing scandals and corruption stories are hard to find since the Liberals have been turfed out. Clean government is such a wasteland for public outrage and must be dis-heartening for the opposition parties.
Can we expect an apology from Maher and the howling opposition dogs. Not a chance of course.
The stunning brilliance of the Canadian journalist.
No wonder we trust them so much.
Because they are so smart, so fair, so honest and would never, ever, ever let their personal vendettas interfere with their objective journalistic professionalism.
Cindi: Perfect!
Question: When a reporter smears a political party with serious allegations one day, only to find out the next day that the anecdotal allegations that were the entire basis of his “report” were completely false, shouldn’t his follow up “news” report be about how he smeared a political party with false accusations the day before, instead of just another report whose tone suggests that it’s just presenting “more information” in a never-ending and putatively developing “story”?
Maher’s non-stop, years-long campaign to smear the Tories regardless of the facts resulted in this case in serious accusations being made in the HOC, and no doubt broadcast and reported on to untold number of Canadians who’ve never heard of Stephen Maher nor will read his passive-voiced non-correction.
The day after Maher’s report Jennifer Ditchburn filed a Canadian Press report (one that Maher proudly linked to on his Twitter account) headlined “NDP asks Elections Canada to look at alleged donor fraud involving Tories”. It begins –
Only then does she mention, as if it’s an after-the-fact triviality, that the Conservatives produced copies of the cheques.
Smear, bury/occlude the correction. Smear, bury/occlude the correction. Repeat ad nauseam, and you have the Media Party’s approach to the ‘nasty’ Conservatives.
These so-called “reporters”, including Maher and various reporters at the CBC/CTV — are the most serious threat to democracy in this country, but how many Canadians realize that, when they’re passively absorbing so much information from these partisan, dishonest shills?
Maher’s a weasel. His journalistic malfeasance is the *real* story here, but for thousands of Canadians (tens of thousands? hundreds of thousands?) the story that’s going to “stick”, and last, is the false smears he’s put out there, and which have been picked up on by other big-name “journalists” with national soapboxes.
If there was a journalistic equivalent of Elections Canada or the Bar Association Maher and a lot of these other weasels would have been out of a job a long time ago.
It is a very rare journalist who is so partisan or so dishonest that the rest of them would notice, let alone remark upon it.
Let’s not forget the insinuation that Elections Canada is investigating ….”The NDP released a letter to Elections Canada asking the agency to investigate the donations. Agency spokesman John Enright said Friday that the agency does not confirm or deny investigations.”
Part of reporting stuff is getting the facts and getting them straight before going off half cocked.
Maher is a lousy journalist with an obvious agenda.
Actually he and Ditchburn has a lot in common, they both have a hate on for the Harper Conservative government and the PM. It’s eating their hearts out to have them in power doing such a fantastic job they can’t bear to report any of the good news.
Jackass journos, they sure take down journalistic standards to the lowest peg.

This same threat to democracy got Obama elected in the US.
Sue his ass. That’s slander.
There is a twitter thing going on that has this posted;
Fred DeLorey @FredDeLorey
@stphnmaher Actually, everyone in your story donated. I have copies of their cheques.

Maher is one of the crack journalists that started the robocall ‘scandal’ rolling. I think that the National Post had to apoloize for one of his other ‘stories’.
If he gets turfed over this, there is always the CBC.He would fit in well .
Never, ever read anything by Maher. It is in the same class as Michael Harris–bordering on hatred of anything conservative.
What a perfect lead for a crusading, investigative journalist – it literally dropped into his lap. A series on Italian quebecers in the construction and restaurant business trying to buy political favours and then lying about it when they went for a hand-out and are told that their donations were… just donations.
When can we expect the articles?
J’accuse! J’accuse! comes easy. “I’m sorry, we made a mistake…again” apparently does not exists to anti-conservative journalists. At this point I’m not sure if it’s the progressives at the CBC/Star or progressive conservatives at Postmedia who are more anti-Harper. Since the G&M paywall went up and the Globe’s commenters moved to the National Post, Postmedia has become even more anti-Harper and pro-Liberal, if that’s possible.
BTW, it’s not the odd honest mistakes that bothers me (it can happen to anyone) it is that these mistakes are consistently against one political party. Random error…not likely.
Take a close look at the second column.
Maher points out that some of the cheques didn’t match the amount recorded as donated.
It isn’t until much further down the column that he reveals that the reason for this may be that expenses for the event where the donation was made can be legitmately deducted before the official donation is recorded.
Maher is biased scum.
Patsplace (12:13), I don’t think there’s any doubt that the new breed of entirely unfettered by objectivity, campaigning “reporters” are increasingly getting to decide who forms governments, or, at the very least, are hamstringing any ruling conservatives by ensconcing, drip-by-drip, the social/cultural conditions for their eventual defeat.
I was traveling around a bit in the last couple of months, and talked at length to quite a few people from Calgary and Vancouver. I was *amazed* by the extent to which these basically non-political and non-partisan people have passively absorbed – “ambient ly”, as Black Mamba once aptly put it – entirely false information about Stephen Harper, Mitt Romney, the Tea Party, etc. For example, they had, to a man and a woman, literally *no idea* about the seriousness of the debt problem in the US; when Obama was brought up, their first response was to see him as someone who was standing up to what the broadcast/airwave media has been insinuating/hammering as being the problem: Tea Party “extremism”, the existential “threat” to basic freedoms coming from right-wing Christians, etc.
One woman from Calgary, an intelligent, good-natured woman who is almost entirely non-political by nature but still votes, has CBC radio on in the background (she likes the music) when she’s housecleaning, etc., and as a direct result of this functionally incidental exposure to the once-an-hour “news” portions, her entire worldview when it comes to politics has an unexamined anti-conservative bent; she believed, for example, that the Conservatives want to outlaw abortion. She took great interest in my calm and friendly point-by-point refutations of the misinformation she had been fed, and was surprised to find out that she was entirely misinformed on some massively key points.
The constant, hammering narrative of biased, partisan “news”-division “journalists” *does* affect the politics in this country. There are a lot of people who are online for hours every day but are on Facebook, emailing, etc., rather than looking into political issues; these people get their information from TV/radio, where the information is disarmingly mixed in – dropped in almost incidentally — with entertainment.
I know there are conservatives who think “everybody knows” that CBC/CTV/OPG reporters are a bunch of shills, blah blah blah, but they’re wrong.
Don’t think it went unnoticed by our media class up here how much help Obama had (and needed) to win his election.
The parallels between Obama and Trudeau are frightening.
It’s only going to get worse.
“The parallels between Obama and Trudeau are frightening.”
THIS IS REALLY FRIGHTENING!!!!
This is the same guy who made a big deal out of the false story that Harper pocketed the communion host at Le Blanc’s funeral. Basing it on pure rumours.
Whats even funnier is Maher gets upset if you accuse him of being either being anti-Conservative, anti-Harper or pro Liberal….he claims he is “completely neutral”…I think he actually believes it.
All hard working honest Canadians need to be very, very afraid of Stephen Maher. The National Press gallery begins to hold him accountable but infortunately he blind devotion to the Liberal will probably be awarded with an Order for Canada.
Maher is also the same guy who leaked the Lisa Raitt “isotopes crisis is sexy” tape from her director of communications.
EBD @ 1:13, sadly, what you said is so true. This constant brainwashing and propaganda by the left through the media and educational systems is exactly the problem.
Reminds of another country and another time where the people were exposed to a constant barrage of propaganda for seven decades. They did however wake up to the garbage they had been fed. Not that it is much better now.
Maher reminds me of someone who sells females.

I think we have become a minority.

Postmedia’s hard, dogged work: calling 550 listed CPC donors to see whether they actually did donate
Given Conservative results in the Montreal area, perhaps they just repressed the memory of donating.
Complaining isn’t enough, that kind of filthy yellow urnalism needs to be dealt with. Second how did he get their names unless EC is working directly with him?

Liberal media and/or Quebec = Corruption.
Fixed that for ya.
Stephen Maher is destoying any credibility he might have had with his endless non-stories. Worse — the editor or the Citizen seems to think that this garbage is worthy of front page coverage — not just yesterdays, but all of Maher’s rumour and innuendo crap. I am particularly annoyed because I am a Conservative supporter, but I think any objective person would see an agenda where when stories with little or no substance are given such high profile. I subscribe to the Citizen for local news, but increasingly it is hardly worth it.
Lindal, don’t hold your breath. The MSM Liberal cabal protect their own.
