  1. Has anyone ever did a comprehensive study on just how self destructive lefty thinking is… the power players actually think their gated communities will save them on the day the welfare payments stop..

  2. The problem is that when d1cks like Mr Kotkin leave the state, they continue voting Democrat.

    Agreed..
Ashville NC is now called “San Francisco” of the east.
    Stupid voters come here,
    ask for ‘Green’ government,
raise taxes and want to control guns.
Need to stop shooting mountain wild boars,
start shooting cars with Obama stickers..

  4. More people leaving than arriving? I think that’s the whole object of the game. California is such a beautiful area with the climate and the view and so on, that by and large the majority of Californians are happy that people are leaving. Hey, it will be less crowded. The trouble will come once the citizens of California realize that a population of senior citizens is unable to sustain the infrastructure for the kind of life-style that has been enjoyed up until now.

  5. We don’ want no Kali-forni-katin’ trash settlin ‘roun these here parts, no siree – jes keep movin’ on t’ Nu Yawk Siddy where yer type will be t’home wit the citified trash whut lives there.

  6. So what’s the problem???? They(leftards)just want Californicated to return to the way it was,pre-1700. And besides, the taxes are only 48th and 49th. Still a ways to go to catch up to the 57th worse state. Oh wait. The Mexicans will eventually get it back, without them firing a shot.

  7. …{But “Jerry’s been a big disappointment,” Mr. Kotkin says. “I’ve known Jerry for 35 years, and he’s smart, but he just can’t seem to be a paradigm breaker. And of course, it’s because he really believes in this green stuff.” }
No, Mr. Kotkin, he is an idiot for the very reasons you have stated. The paradigm that needs breaking is Browns.
Noooo mention of the burdens of illegal immigration here… from a DEMOGRAPHER?!
Huge WTF value there. (California has almost 25% of the nation’s illegals.)
Looks like a liberal facing the facts. Somehow I do not believe he will recover from his mental illness as a vote for Brown is terminal.

  8. “the state is run for the very rich, the very poor, and the public employees.”
Hmm! Those groups all need illegal Aliens.. such that someone in California has to do WORK….The BIG one will suck them all into the Ocean (must happen long before Dec 21/2012), well fed Sharks won’t notice the demographics of the dung..

  9. robins11, “Has anyone ever did a comprehensive study on just how self destructive lefty thinking is…”
Short answer, yes, many Russians and Eastern Europeans did, for 45 to 70 years.

  10. What is interesting is simply the statistics; how can a population sustain itself, economically, if over half the population do not contribute, fiscally, to the govt spending? That is, if the population does not create wealth but uses more and more wealth – what happens?
The illegals don’t pay taxes but use services: schools and hospitals.
The elderly have moved out of the work force; may pay minimal taxes or don’t pay taxes but use services.
    The many on welfare…
The enormous bloated bureaucracy, with their high ratio of untaxed benefits do not create wealth but use more services.
The reduction of wealth creating private businesses, the small and medium businesses that are the backbone of a wealth producing economy means that the State has no income apart from property taxes on wealthy areas, and taxes on wealth – but these sources are leaving, are drying up, are moving their wealth elsewhere..
Such an economy is at a crossroads; it can live either in a fictional or real world. The fictional world of ‘social justice’ and ‘the rich are a Magic Cauldron of wealth’ vs the reality of a population whose ratio of producers to non-producers is dysfunctional.

  11. The sad thing is – as screwed as California is – most of Canada fares worse in absolute terms.
Fraser Institute publishes their Economic Freedom of North America study every year. Alberta habitually ranks first or second amongst the 60 provinces and states. Saskatchewan (the next highest ranked province) came in at #32 in the 2011 study, but Saskatchewan finally has big momentum in the right direction (up from #53 in 2008).
California was ranked #25 in 2011. Ontario (54) and Quebec (60) should be taken out back and…well, they shoot lame horses, don’t they?

  12. Rudy, that’s right. And you can tell when you drive around Ontario, by the number of big empty buildings that used to have industry in them. All being knocked down now, space used for the only thing that retains non-taxable value anymore: housing.
Related, it is -extremely- difficult to find affordable small business/retail space. Most of it is expensive and crappy. So tons of small businesses are scrapping with each other while Big Business long since moved off shore. All that’s left here is automotive, and that’s mostly semi-government anymore.

  13. This is why we have various borders, language, and culture and protect them, it’s called DIVERSITY.
If you don’t like one place you have “PRO CHOICE” to move to somewhere else that better suites your needs. The Liberal Progressives are taking away our diversity and choices so that we cannot run away from them.

  14. Watch if Obama gets a second term. Americans will need passports to move in their own Country.
