Free Ethical Oil!

Glen writes;

On chiquita’s facebook page they are deleting pissed off comments from people pissed about their oilsands boycott as fast as they are getting posted – I think they need a good old SDA deluge!

10pm update – It’s a tsunami! 207 comments on the Chiquita Facebook page, and all of them negative. Putting social media together with environmental extremism as brand marketing strategy – what could go wrong? You can also email eloyd@chiquita.com.
Dec. 17th update: the deluge continues, despite their deletions. Wonder if anyone’s getting the message yet?

  1. You will know you have their attention when they announce that the whole thing was a big misunderstanding.

  2. I can live without bananas from such a PC terrorist supporting (and convicted!) bunch of arses. Here to hoping they won’t need much unethical oil from their other sources because their trucks won’t be doing much transporting of a product nobody will buy. What a f’ing stupid thing for a company to do. I hope they take a pounding in the market place. They can say they’re sorry all they want, I do the shopping and none of their crap will ever enter my house again.

  3. Dole Banana’s fb page is also getting deluded with numbskull greenies urging them to boycott the oilsands also….probably also happening at Del Monte’s page…

  4. what Chris said!
    as for facebook I DON’T.

Ditto…..when first we heard of this my wife & I said “No more Chiquita for us”.

  5. Buy ethical bananas from Dole and Del Monte. A boycott of Chiquita could be the straw that breaks the companies back, as their financials show they are in trouble.

  6. Well, I’ve tried to send a message to Chiquita (altogether) Bananas, but can’t tell if it’s gone through or not. Dole and any other kind of bananas, here I come!

  7. What a farce! There’s no way a corporation can identify where the oil came from. This is nothing but an ill-conceived PR gimmick to appeal to the Greenie Psychopaths.
Forget the FB page. If you are that outraged, go to their corporate website and tell the CEO.

  8. I don’t “facebook” either, though will send ’em a message through my wife’s account. We eat a lot of bananas, the kids love ’em,so this morning when I went shopping,I made sure to buy “DOLE”,the other brand in the store.
I intend to find out what other products that company produces,I guess anything of “United Fruit Company”,and boycott them too.

  9. Posted this on the Del Monte FB page:
“Time For Del Monte to step up and gain some market share by denouncing Chiquita’s anti-Canadian Tar Sands Oil stance ! An active boycott of Chiquita is underway over on Chiquita’s FB page.”
    comment: “Before Dole does :-)”
And then I posted this on the Dole FB page:
“Time For Dole to step up and gain some market share by denouncing Chiquita’s anti-Canadian Tar Sands Oil stance ! An active boycott of Chiquita is underway over on Chiquita’s FB page.”
comment: “Before Del Monte does :-)”
(Let’s you and him fight !)
(I know I should have said oil sands not tar sands. I was revved up…)

  10. Bananas are radioactive just like nuclear power!!! Boycott radiation.
I don’t have a Facebook account but feel free to quote me if you’ve got an account.

  11. Chiquita also markets “Fresh Express” packaged salads — I won’t be buying those anymore either

  12. Thanks for the link. 77 as of now.
I personally think Coca Cola should get the same treatment.

  13. Oh come clipper, I’m sure coke is gonna buy glasses for all those poor poor blind baby bears…

  14. It’s the former United Fruit Company which worked hand in hand with fascist dictators to supress the human rights of brown people in South and Central America. They are pigs, nothing more, nothing less.

  15. Not all of us work in the oil sands but we all benefit from its prosperity. So, if Chiquita had any integrity, they would stop selling in Alberta, period.
I expect they’ll back pedal in the next few days the same as Bed, Bath and Beyond, Avon and the other companies who are associated with Forest Ethics did and say it was all a misunderstanding. Whether they do or not though, I’ll never buy any of their products again.

  16. Chiquita… is that the same company who has a hundred hundred year history of using slave labor. Child labor is still used on many of their plantations. Check out the like for a little illumination.

  17. Yes, all that oilsands oil gets pumped down to Cushing, Oklahoma and gets mixed with all the U.S. crude oil down there.
As soon as the Seaway pipeline reversal takes place, all that mixed crude oil will start flowing down to the U.S. Gulf coast to the refineries there, and get mixed with Middle East crude oil.
Either in Oklahoma or Texas, the gasoline will be refined and mixed with other gasoline either in tanker trucks, tank cars, or storage tanks.
Chiquita will have to interrogate each individual molecule to see where it came from.
Or they could just give up oil completely. 😀

  18. Oops. Should have said, “the _oil_ will be refined _into gasoline_ and mixed with other gasoline.”

  19. At least one banana a day here – all Dole from now on!
Chiquita really slipped on this one 🙂

  20. I like the idea of telling the grocery store that I will no longer be shopping there if I see chiquita brand there.

  21. That does it. I asked the wife to buy small english cucumbers and paint them yellow with food dye. Young ‘uns are easy to fool , as the global warming nonsense proves. Not enough CO2 in the air and thats why they taste different. Gore/Suzuki’s fault.

  22. I hope this activist company gets the message…the board of directors should be looking into this about now..//

  23. My message to Gary at Chiquita:
    Gary:
You will be well advised to monitor the reaction to your company’s naive and ill-advised announcement to the effect that your company is boycotting Canadian oil. Apparently your company may not be aware of the fact that Canada is the largest supplier of oil to the US, and that we also provide to your country about 20% of your electricity and 28% of your natural gas.
We are also your largest trading partner in the world.
Your company, in pandering to a bunch of wild-eyed hippies promoting the human-caused global warming concept, has seriously misjudged the current economic and political climate. More importantly, you have misjudged the climate of the Canadian public. To wit: Canadians now realize that you need us more than we need you, and we are not about to accept this kind of insult. You accept our products, or, you freeze in the dark. Period.
China is begging for our oil…if we build the pipelines westward instead of south, our oil sands resources will forever be denied to your country.
On another issue, I am an investor. Today I seriously shorted Chiquita Brands stock. Apparently several others did so as well. The irony is that your ill-advised policy, which, once you realize may result in a groundswell of boycotts against your company and inevitably cause a reversal of your ill-advised policy, will make me several hundred thousand dollars.
I suppose that makes me smarter than you.
    Bruce Bowie

  24. Chiquita is only the latest company to join in this stupidity. Bed Bath & Beyond, and the City of Bellingham previously declared they are directing their transportation companies to avoid ‘Tar sands’ oil.
A few more companies have not mentioned the oil sands by name, but have indicated they want to use more environmentally friendly fuel.
    FedEx
    The Gap
    Levi Strauss & Co
    Timberland
And Ezra has mentioned a few times that a trust funded by HP contributes significant money to the Tides Foundation, which of course is a large player in the fight against the oil sands and Canadian oil.

  25. I can stroke FedEx off my list as there are lots of alternatives. Perhaps they need to clarify what they mean by environmentally friendly fuel.

  26. What element of racketeering is NOT part of this International corrupt initiative? The Lawyers running this MUST hunted down & disbarred…Enough nonsense

  27. The City of Bellingham is trashing Canadian oil? Canadians represent a big chunk of Bellingham’s retail customers. Don’t sh*t where you eat…

  28. I just hope and pray that somewhere some banana brained leftie has a child fighting for their lives against cancer or whatever, in some hospital in Canada, and they are down to the Christopher Hitchens moment, they take the time to go and look at the donor boards while they pray for a miracle. We all know the donor boards, you know the people and companies that donate millions to the hospitals and skating arenas and parks etc of this country. Try and find The Sierra Club, The Pembina Institute, The Suzuki Foundation, The Parkland whatever, The Alberta wilderness or out in the wilderness club, The Greenpeace on and on. NO, people, you will not see those names on a donor board. They donate nothing. They take everything they can, including your foolish donations if you are stupid enough to give anything, but the finger, to these parasites. You will see though, on the donor boards, the names,,,Exxon Mobil, Shell Canada, Compton Petroleum, etc you will see the McCaigs, the Harvie the Cross the Southern families names, yes the EEEEVIL people and companies making MONETARY donations like 5.5 million by Trican to the Childrens Hospital last week. Wake up people and realize The left donates nothing. Did Jack Layton donate anything to any anything other than to a TO brothel, does the ATA, the NDPEE, the Liberal Party of Canada etc donate anything to anything, other than themselves? NO. Lets celebrate the creators of this great country, and dump on, and not support, the sleazy CBC Toronto Star media scums and aforementioned parasites. This is the greatest country in the world because of the creators,,,Not critics like the preferred CBC parasites.

  29. Just finished sending a note to headquarters via Chiquita’s webpage telling them I’m joining a boycott of all their products.
Encourage you all to go directly to the webpage.

  30. Boycotting Chiquita bananas from this point on. Also any other product that they make. Wondering when they’ll start doing the ethical thing and boycott oil altogether and have their product pulled from Central America in wooden wheeled carts by little brown people.
As far as Coke goes, have been boycotting it for years now.

  31. Really like the suggestion by “inn of the north” – cracking open the bananas in the produce dept – is that like “spiking” a tree in the BC forest? lol I wonder if China sells bananas? I would buy from them just because they buy our oil. Cheers.

  32. It is a crime to give or take a bribe, these companies have gained an illegal benefit from
    the Tides (George Soros)group.
If Canada wants to be treated as an banana Republic and let the US dictate trade…so be it. If not.. Harper has tools
