In tonight’s amusement en route to the Tips, the late Lorne Greene, surely one of the more serious-sounding Canadian actors of all time, shows off his talents as a singer.
Greene began his career as a radio news reader:
The CBC gave him the nickname “The Voice of Canada”; however, his role in delivering distressing war news in sonorous tones following Canada’s entry into World War II in 1939 caused many listeners to call him “The Voice of Doom.”
Right to the end, he never lost that distinctive sound: here he is singing the theme song from Bonanza.
The comments are open for your Reader Tips.

Earlier this year Lawrence Solomon wrote a column in the NP about the activities of an administrator at Wikipedia named William Connolley, a one-man censorship bureau who expunged any information that even hinted at suggesting that the science of AGW wasn’t yet settled. Yesterday, Solomon writes, Conolley was unanimously slapped down by a Wikipedia arbitration proceeding, and is now barred from “participating in any article, discussion or forum dealing with global warming.”
That’s good news. Whatever your opinion about Wikipedia, there’s no doubt that it’s a go-to quick-info resource for millions and millions of people, so this is a positive development, and one more not-so-insignificant blow against the warmists.
The arbitrators at Wikipedia are to be commended for this one.
I wonder how many Teachers/Professors directed/allowed their students to cite Wiki for global warming assignments?
How many student minds have been violated?
Consumers should demand an “educator” recall to fix the problem. Universities and the Public School System – dangerous at any speed.
They cannot plead ignorance – thanks to blogs, AGW fraud has been in the public, if not the MSM, domain for a decade.
You all knew this before this came out. We have all known extraordinary means where used to cover this up.
Witnesses say Fort Hood gunman kept firing outside
Ft. Hood Shooting Suspect Hearing
By ANGELA K. BROWN and MICHAEL GRACZYK, Associated Press Writers
FORT HOOD, Texas – As dozens of soldiers lay dead or bleeding in a Fort Hood processing center last year, a gunman went outside and continued firing as others ran to nearby buildings, hid behind cars or carried wounded comrades to safety, witnesses told a military court Friday.

WE DAY just happened in Vankonger. This event is billed as “….. a day-long event that ignites a year-long program for change, called We Schools in Action.”
18,000 school kids packed GM/Rogers Place for this event of motivation and such……
Guest speakers were…..AL GORE…Martin Sheen…and Jesse Jackson….
All of a sudden, I got a creepy feeling what this event was about, the indoctrination of gullible minds by three far-left ideologues……ack, who let them into Canaduh?

They captured him it’s their problem now to deal with him. Do NOT -I repeat- do NOT accept him back to Canada under any circumstance.
“Harry Reid, the most powerful Democrat in the United States Senate, is battling to save his career after coming off second best in a bruising televised debate with his Tea Party rival Sharron Angle, a former teacher and grandmother with no national political experience.
“A slew of recent polls have shown Mrs Angle taking a narrow lead for the first time in a race that symbolises the threat posed by the upstart conservative Tea Party movement to the political establishment.”
(…)
“Mrs Angle, 61, spent months being portrayed by her opponent as an extremist, but she fought back in the debate in what was a confident display under the glare of television cameras.
“So short in stature that she had to conduct the debate on a six-inch high platform, Mrs Angle nonetheless threw several hard rhetorical punches that justified the reputation of Las Vegas for box office pugilism…”

“Why do we fund these bra burners?
The Quebec’s Women Federation (QWF) had to withdraw parts of a very controversial ad last week in preparation for this week’s World March of Women.
The group that pretends it’s representing Quebec’s women ran a video in which a woman, acting as the mother of a Canadian soldier killed in Afghanistan, says: “If I had known that in giving them life I was going to supply cannon fodder, maybe I wouldn’t have had any children.”
This is only the latest controversy to hit this radical organization.
Founded in the ’60s, the QWF’s objective and raison d’etre was to reduce the inequities between men and women. At the time, it was a noble cause. Women were earning just a bit more than half what men made.
Today, they earn more than 87% of what men make — and more than 93% for younger women or those who have a university degree.
QWF had to find other fights.
In 1994, Francoise David became president of the group. That is the great takeover. The QWF became a more and more radical, ideological, left-leaning group.
Today, David is heading a radical left-wing party with one seat in the National Assembly in Quebec City. Quebec solidaire (QS), as the party is called, would make the NDP look like moderate centrists.
QWF has become nothing less than the feminist wing of QS. A fringe that only has 500 members, mainly activists in downtown Montreal.”

“French workers take to the streets
AFP – Charles Onians – 47 minutes ago
PARIS – French workers poured onto the streets Saturday to defend their right to retire at 60, as rolling strikes shut down oil refineries and threatened to leave Paris airports without fuel.”
Lorne Greene, was my favourite grandfather figure during my formative years, having lost both of mine way too soon. Along with his wise administration of the Ponderosa, his passion and morality extended far beyond keeping his aging bachelor boys in check. The music I cherish the most were those captivating singles RINGO and OL’ TIN CUP. Such stories in song are a treat to the passages of the mind, much like those from other balladeers like Burl Ives or Marty Robbins, a-la Orson Welles or Rod Serling.
Gonzalo Lira has an excellent and very descriptive (heh) explanation of why the bizarre mortgage fraud mess in the good old U.S. of A isn’t going to go away anytime soon.
With lots of good comments following.
Years in the making and decades in the fixing.

No teacher/prof in their right mind allows references from Wiki to begin with. However using the “sources” at the bottom of the wiki page is a good start.

“Canada stands tall”
“By David Warren, The Ottawa Citizen”
“There was a moment this week in which I felt very proud to be Canadian. There could be moments like that in any week, but this one was unusual for its cause. It was something done by the government, that invoked principle, and required courage. That made it something rare, to be savoured.
Pride is not always a sin, incidentally. Vainglory is sinful; conceited arrogance, very bad; the kind of pride that attempts to diminish God, downright satanic. The Greeks knew hubris as the deadliest of moral errors; Saints Gregory and Thomas rightly identified self-exalting pride as the “queen bee in the hive” of human depravities. And its vices are manifest in every kind of presumption, down to the most venial claim to be able to do something not within one’s competence. (Modern politicians make their livings on such claims.)
But a certain satisfaction in a job well done — we can wink at that. And when the satisfaction is in a job well done by someone we usually regard as a duffer, well, there might even be something holy in it.
So let us not miss this opportunity to praise the Rt. Hon. Stephen Harper. He cost Canada a coveted seat on the UN Security Council, by refusing to sell out Israel. He withdrew our candidacy when it became apparent that the bloc vote of Arab and Islamic states (about a third of the UN membership) had been turned against us; thereby conceding the seat to Portugal, with her more flexible policy of moral appeasement.
In the course of scotching our bid, Harper allowed the announcement of an important trading agreement between Canada and Israel to go ahead, the very day before the vote. This could easily have been disguised or elided.
He likewise demurred on an attempt by the United Arab Emirates to link landing rights for commercial aviation to foreign policy positions.
In addition to organizing opposition to Canada’s Security Council bid, the Emirates have now unilaterally withdrawn Canadian access to Camp Mirage, which we have been using through the last decade in the deployment of our troops to Afghanistan.
In a further move as characteristically petty and childish as it was shoddy, the UAE refused overflight permission to a plane carrying our defence minister home from a visit to Afghanistan.
Among all western nations — not excluding the United States — Canada has taken the clearest stand in defence of Israel’s legitimate rights and interests. We have paid, and we will continue to pay for this. And we should take genuine pride in paying for our defiance of efforts by the Arab and Muslim bloc at the UN to isolate Israel, and make her a pariah.”

“Miners trapped in China”
“Just as 33 Chilean miners were rescued, an explosion at a coal mine in China has killed 20 miners and trapped 17 others.
CNN reports that the explosion was caused by a coal and gas outburst early Saturday morning in Yuzhou within the Henan province in central China. Local media reports that 239 workers made it to safety while 20 died and another 17 are unaccounted for. Rescue operations are underway but it is not know how far underground the men are.
About 70% of China’s energy needs are supplied by coal and many of the country’s miners are migrant workers with limited training. About 2,631 miners died last year as criticism regarding the lack of safety regulations surrounded the country’s mining pits.”

DanBC; I caught a bit of ctv’s newsnet last night. Close to the beginning of the newscast they were hyping a program that showed how Hitler was manipulating the young minds of Germany, not good.
About 10 minutes later, they mentioned this “WE” day promotion featuring Al Gore manipulating the minds of young children, that’s supposedly a good thing.
I doubt if anyone there noticed the hypocrisy.
That video was taken out of context.

A criminal investigation into the death of Brian Sinclair, who died after sitting for up to 34 hours in a hospital waiting room without receiving care, is long overdue, his family says.
After a six-month review, Winnipeg police announced Friday they are launching an investigation to determine whether criminal negligence occurred and whether criminal charges are warranted.

Merkel says German multicultural society has failed
Attempts to build a multicultural society in Germany have “utterly failed”, Chancellor Angela Merkel says.
In a speech in Potsdam, she said the so-called “multikulti” concept – where people would “live side-by-side” happily – did not work.

This is going to create some interesting waves. A very big story. The world is waking up, maybe its not too late after all.
Thank-you for that link to Mr. David Warren’s article about our Prime Minister, Mazz2. Like Mr. Warren, I am very proud of the good, moral, intelligent man that we, Canadians chose to be our Prime Minister. PMSH is a Prime Minister that we can always be proud to name as our spokesman in the world and at home.
Ah, the legendary voice of Lorne Greene. The old joke has Lorne Greene in Toronto, picking up the phone and dialling the operator to place a long distance call (hey, I said it’s an old joke, now didn’t I?).
He says, “I’d like to place a long distance call to Los Angeles.”
The operator says, “Do you have the code?”
And he says, “No, I always talk like this.”
Moving on, when I lived in Toronto I used to play in the live pub trivia league. You play in teams with a quizmaster who asks the questions, and is also the timekeeper and makes sure the time limits for giving answers are observed. Each question is asked to an individual player who can try to answer it for extra points before it goes to his team. If you don’t know the answer you have an incentive to make the timekeeper-quizmaster laugh, because if he gets distracted and loses track of the time, your team can get some extra seconds to think about it and come up with something.
One night I was asked a question about opera, which gave a lengthy and lurid summary of the plot of “Lohengrin”, detailing the gory exploits that Lohengrin gets up to to save his girlfriend, then got to the point, asking “What was the name of Lohengrin’s girlfriend?” I had no idea, but I figured here was a chance to throw the timekeeper off, so I made a show of thinking deeply for a few seconds, then feigned a sudden second thought, and asked as sincerely as I could, “I’m sorry, I need to clarify. Did you say ‘Lohengrin’ or ‘Lorne Green’?”
It was a good ten minutes before order was restored. God bless you, Lore Greene.
Come to think of it – PMSH is a lot like Pa Cartwright (Lorne Green). They are both from the old Toronto (the good). Humm.

Blind Giants:
“Watching the polls in tight races fluctuate over the last few days conjures an image of frightened people racing around the feet of a blind giant. Blind giants are dangerous. They cause massive amounts of random destruction as they flail around. It’s very hard to convince them to change course, when they plod toward certain doom.
There is no question that our centralized government is gigantic. Those who support the idea of a gigantic State believe our affairs should be managed by a concentration of power and money, at the disposal of a brilliant and moral ruling class…The most brilliant intellect cannot make meaningful decisions in a state of sensory deprivation. False knowledge passes through a perfect system to emerge as useless garbage.”

“Chinese bosses shoot protesting Zambian miners: police
LUSAKA — Managers at a Chinese-run Collum Coal Mine in Zambia shot and wounded 12 miners who were protesting against poor working conditions, police said on Saturday.
“The workers were protesting against the poor working conditions when managers using shotguns started to shoot aimlessly, not in the air, thereby wounding 12 workers,” police spokesman Ndandula Siamana told AFP.
Before the Friday incident in the southern town of Sinazongwe, workers had constantly been complaining about poor working conditions at the mine.
Siamana said police were investigating the incident and no charges had been brought against the managers.
“It’s possible that the managers feared that they might be attacked but we shall ensure that the culprits are brought to book,” Siamana said.”
