As an addendum (sp?) to EBD’s post below it’s called “Crusaderism.”
It’s a mental condition that fully explains the leftist mind, in particular activists’ mentalities.
This is a LONG series posted before, but I strongly recommend watching the whole thing (martini pouring officially allowed). But if you want the real quick jist of it, the 3:10 and 5:00 minute marks more or less explains it.
The beginning of this segment actually does a good job linking worthless degrees to these crusades.

…And the TEA party movement is a crusade to kick these Liberal crusaders in the thrash bin where they belong.
The minority has been bitting and nibbling at the majority’s ankle for too long…REAL hope and change is coming.

Why can’t “crusades” be people’s own lives? We have our own lives to live and we all have to answer to someone someday. Focus on your own life and not the plight of this, that or the other. There are worthy causes to be sure but there are also busybodies who focus on grander things for their own personal benefit.
Just my quick thoughts.
