Now is the time at SDA when we juxtapose!
Reuters: – “Saskatchewan sees budget surplus, chops taxes”
Bourque – Quebec’s “Scorched Earth Budget”
So long as they can keep that cheap daycare! Related, from the Fraser Institute – “Saskatchewan Prosperity: Building on Success”

this is disgusting:

Yep, keep that cheap daycare and the thousands of other entitlements going. But hey, don’t bother buying a medi-vac chopper to help save lives near ski slopes!!
Sure, the Saskatchewan budget looks great now, but have you factored in the human tide of refugees from the US that you’ll be getting this year and the years to come?
Good ole hard work, financial conservatism(both in the federal government and at home) make for solid growth without bumps.
brad wall is getting it right…if he keeps on his present path socialism will be gone for good in our great province. i watched dirty harry (van mulligan) on the news the other night talking about how property tax reform was always “high” on the ndp agenda. it was high alright ….like how high can we get it and still stay in power. what a turd.
now if we can get brad to push for a voluntary canadian wheat board….but i dream.

Kinsella is pretty well slime. He fits well with the Liberal brand though. If he worked for me I would work him out the door not put him front and center in my business.
I’m surprised he has friends let alone a job.
Tom Paine – I have been worrying about people coming up north too.
People pull up stakes where there is failure, and go to where the money is.
Currently, Canada looks pretty good. Good health care, relatively safe cities, OK social support structures, probably better employment opportunities.
There are many bad elements that could come up from the states though as well. We’ve seen a bit of that in Vancouver with the drug traffickers.
I think we should all be a bit concerned about what you raised
Saskatchewan … like Alberta but with potash.
Good on ya, Saskatchewan from a lifelong Albertan married to a Saskatchewan gal.
This 25% of their revenues is OUR taxes !
“Hence, this budget is more telling in the portrait it paints of a post-recession Quebec than in its depiction of the province’s current fiscal plight. And Ms. Jérôme-Forget’s projection of only a 1.2-per-cent economic contraction this year – or barely half the decline predicted in the most recent private-sector forecasts – means Quebeckers still only have an inkling of the fiscal pain that awaits them.
Since Mr. Charest took office in 2003, Quebec’s public finances have been coasting along thanks to the generosity of successive federal governments. Even this year, cash transfers from Ottawa will increase 6.6 per cent to $14.8-billion, equivalent to almost a quarter of Quebec’s revenues, while every other source of provincial income craters”
As a Quebecer (and a tory), I find it disgusting that at both federal and provincial levels of govt, no attempt has been made to make the public service share the pain.
This is particularly true in QC, where nearly half of all employed persons are paid by one level of government or another and where less than 40% of all economically active persons pay any tax at all.
Come back, Mario – we need you!

I wonder how Kinsella will like his wife’s picture posted.
Eric; I disagree. Americans coming up here would be a good thing for Canada. We would be getting their best. We never bothered about the large percentage of gangsters among the immigrations from everywhere else mixed in with all the socialists, so I don’t see the tiny number from the US being a problem. Plus it might just change the landscape in the right direction. Imagine newcomers who believe in conservative values; that would be a welcome change.
Cheap daycare is right – all parents pay only $7 a day, no matter what their income level. That’s right, you can earn a six or seven figure income and still get daycare for the price of large mocha latte. And this is one fee that is not going up.
“brad wall is getting it right…if he keeps on his present path socialism will be gone for good in our great province.”
Ridding Sask. of socialism would be even better than Alberta being rat-free. After all the good things that the Sask. Party has done in a relatively short period of time, it’s inconceivable that the NDP could ever govern the province again. However, this is Sask. and socialism remains deeply entrenched in many. One misstep by Wall and the NDP will be on him like a pitbull on a poodle. I’ve noticed recently that the socialists haven’t pointed out that Wall used to work for Grant Devine. This used to be a sure-fire method to get the lefties all bent out of shape and the troops mobilized to battle the evil right-wingers.
And the worst thing is it is the yuppie parents who got a lot of the subsidized spaces because they have the transportation, contacts and time to apply to several places.
Now of course there are huge waiting lists. Meanwhile Quebec has terrible educator-child ratios and floor space per child ratios.
And the big question is still where are they going to get the money to repay the losses at the Caisse de Dépôt et du Placement, our Quebec pension fund.
Quebec is on the socialist path while it’s neighbor New Brunswick is on the Free Enterprise path. The results will be interesting.

Quebec – deficit and tax increases !!!
Here’s the number that I found interesting:
“The unemployment rate will rise from a record low of 7.2 per cent in 2008 to an average of 8.9 per cent in 2009.”
The “record low” holy-crap-this-is-awesome best unemployment number in La Belle Province was 7.2%? Gee, could the obscenely high taxes, highest in the nation, have anything to do with that?
Naw! Whadda dumb idea, only a Neocon could think that!
We don’t have the most violent city in Canada.
that’s social justice… something the saskatchawanese don’t have….
Quebec’s decision to spend their way out of the results of their own overspending is a sound one, for this reason: not one individual Quebecer will have to pay for it; repayment of the debt will, in each case, be the responsibility of other Quebecers. Therefore, everyone wins.
Thats right quebecois… we KILL anyone who utters the words “social justice”.
But you’re still broke and we’re not.
We don’t have the most violent city in Canada.
that’s social justice… something the saskatchawanese don’t have….
If by “social justice” you mean a pathological and province wide mistrust and fear of anyone who can’t trace their ancestry to Samuel de Champlain, then yeah, I suppose you have “social justice”. BTW, how are the James Bay Cree digging Quebec’s sense of “social justice” lately?
As for violence, two words- Hell’s Angels. They don’t call Canada’s most corrupt province home for nothing…
pshaw quebecois, without the largesse of us um, more profitable “have” provinces you’d have nuttin except lotsa outta work government employees. Nuff said.
Why in the name of God can’t governments figure this out. Tax people less and they have more money to spend. Businesses have capital to invest. Companies grow and people make more money. Governments tax money that people make and spend and everybody wins. Like Winston Churchill said, “Socialism is the best form of government, if you can find somebody else to pay for it.”
I never fully realized how pathetic the Quebec economy really is. One of the richest jurisdictions in the world in terms of natural resources and formerly the financial center of Canada
Now a welfare state. Wake up Quebeckers or you’ll be on your own and penniless. Haiti of the north.
But you’re still broke and we’re not.
Uh, yes Kate, we are. Still paying for that Devine debt, don’t you know. The demons of conservatism past are not so easily exorcised, as Obama is discovering.
brad wall is getting it right…if he keeps on his present path socialism will be gone for good in our great province.
What exactly has Wall done thus far, except reap the benefits of the good fiscal management of the previous NDP governments?
BTW, there is no tax cut, only a tax shift from property taxes to general revenue sources.
Quebec sponger/homeless person ‘we don’t have the most violent city….’
Color me not surprized.
To be robbed, you first have to own something or have some money.
Of course there are no spongers in SK, eh rocky?
“Uh, yes Kate, we are. Still paying for that Devine debt, don’t you know.”
Oh yeah. Here we go. It was just a matter of time before some bitter lefty mentioned the socialists’ favourite whipping boy, Grant Devine.
Get some new material.
Get some new material.
I know it is difficult for you rightwhingers to comprehend, but what is true, is true. I’ll stop referring to it some time far into the future when that debt is retired, biffy.
So you don’t live in Sask?
