How come Toronto has all of the smog?
Manufacturing has killed rivers and lakes in Ontario, but Alberta oil sands are now the big bad polluters? We are “easy” targets for ignorant Canadians, who will blindly believe “big oil” with their “big profits” are responsible for all their problems. Bet most central Canadians don’t even know that they get their “blood” oil from Arab countries, not from safe, secure, freedom loving, Alberta.
[…]
So, how many smog days has Toronto had so far this year? Is Lake Erie still a “dead” lake? Just thinking, maybe Ontario and Quebec should get their own provinces in order before they slag Alberta.
Be sure to read to the end.

“If We’re The Ones Doing All The Polluting .. .
How come Toronto has all of the smog?
This is an excellent question. Some people I know give credit to the “global warming” fiasco for raising people’s awareness re the environment. — Awareness, yes, but I cannot think of a single practical thing the whole global warming scare mongering has accomplished. It is the wrong focus. Time to start caring about the environment as it exists in the real world.
ET thank you. My immediate reaction to manty was alot less civilized or coherent. Trolls are to be discouraged, shunned and/or shot down. I believe you have achieved all of the above.
here’s a really crazy idea people….it’s a world problem right…this whole GHG Global warming, emmisions control, carbon tax extravaganza right???? (Okay, actually the sun heats the earth and we don’t have control of that thermostat)
but here’s a really crazy thought…tax your exports not the people and industry in your own country…
Canada…We’re a stable, safe, dependable, diplomatic, Westeren, enlightened society, not likely to have a jihad any time soon, supply chain for China and India… cost of doing business with a stable, safe, dependable, diplomatic, Westeren, enlightened society, not likely to have a jihad any time soon, supply chain…
If they want to burn our coal they simply pay a bit more for it….
they want to burn our oil they pay more for it…
they want our natural gas they pay more for it…
Now here’s the crazy part… take the money you’ve collect from export taxes and now take a page from Saudi Arabia and the DuBai projects…
Invest the tax money in your own country in developing new cleaner industry, developing cleaner forms of energy and technology…
Why the hell isn’t any political party thinking this way???
MrEd,,your plan is too simple…Call back when you have a tax plan for us…We love tax, thats why we all love DION DION the GREENSHIFT MON..LOL
NOTE…(MON) in Jamaican—had to make it rhyme
Might as well get a laugh out of this nonsense eH!
I hear ya… Anyone coming up with something as simple as I mentioned above would never get elected…there’d be the whole “Hidden” agenda negative ad campaign to overcome
ET/charlie98/rusty p. bucket/kelly
What charlie98 first talked about and was the central point to his confused rant, was Alberta separating from Canada; becoming a separate country; and taking the oil with it and all Canadians, after 140 or so years, could just go get screwed?! Hah! Not likely!
Alberta is either a province with all the provisions and responsibilities of the Canadian Constitution at it’s disposal or it’s a separate country and in that extremely unlikely event, all that oil in Alberta does NOT just go with it.
Canada would protect it’s national interests when dealing with a newly separated foreign country.
We have been through decades of this childishness with Quebec already and every minute corner of this complex issue has been explored with a proctologist’s precision and guess what… Quebec is still a part of Canada.
This post is not a troll just a reflection of reality as I see it playing out.
Maybe its time for the CPC to come out with own tax shift idea?
Sell the CBC and spend the billion on Veteran’s Affairs.
Manty: Canada has not stood up for its self interests in almost 50 years what makes you think it would start now? Even if Canada did decide to stand up what would it use as a weapon? The CAF? Remember what happened during the White Revolution in Russia? The army refused to shoot at fellow Russians. Just reality as I see playing out.
Of course the fact remains that in order to implent this plan the Liberals would have to get elected with Dion as leader and that aint gonna happen no how Shaft or no Shaft. That pinhead Phd is too dumb to stack cord wood so the whole discussion is moot.
I am sorry to say I live in SWO but thankfully NOT Toronto or the 905 area. We people living in the rural and country areas of Ontario are not like Toronto. The problem is they have too much power and can keep liberals in indefinitely. The majority only read the red star and listen to Dalton and Miller, if they actually hear anything at all, and get to watch CTV and CBC so they have no idea what is actually happening in the greater Canada. They do as the liberals tell them.I think instead of other areas in Canada separating why not let Toronto separate and keep Dalton, David and Dion…the triple “D” s.
There is no smog in Fort McMurray, but it sure can stink if the wind blows from Syncrude or Suncor.
Ontario and Quebec can’t stand that Alberta is rolling in dough, so they have to cause Alberta grief. They already take billions of Alberta’s dollars – what, they don’t like our money? Talk about cutting off one’s nose to spite the face. Nutjobs.
What? I rarely comment here anymore – haven’t in a long while and now my latest comment must be reviewed before being posted. Whatever!
I would like to put my 2 cents in. Manty you talk of Quebec hanging around threatening secession. That’s the problem see? It’s a threat. They have neither the balls or the where withall to get it done. Alberta on the other hand has done things her own way, despite the ball and chain of central Canada. When oil was $20.00 a barrell, we sucked it up re-arranged the way Gov’t run business was done. (privitzed many busines). Every penny coming from royalties, taxs ect. went to paying down our debt. We made a law that prohibits us from ever running a deficet or spending ourselves into debt again.
I guess my point is that if threatened again with a NEP type cash grab, we are not the pacifist weenies Quebecers are when it comes to defending what is rightfully ours.
This province sends 20BILLION to Ottawa, of which 9BILLION is returned for Fed handbacks. Thats 11BILLION in the Ottawa coffers. Yet that is not enough for the Lieberal jackals. If Dion gets in power and try’s his theft plan, there wont be decades of sepretist threats, we will just “getter done”.
Manty needs to study Cdn economics.
The reason Quebec is still here is because they couldn’t run a lemonade stand without English Canada’s taxdollars to bail them out.
In fact Charest just used $700 million of them for a tax break to get re-elected.
The reason Western Canada can leave anytime they want after a legitimate referendum, is because the West has the ambition and the wealth to support itself.
The crowning achievement of the last 50 yrs of world history had been that any area or group that has a burning desire to become an independent nation and join the United Nations has done so. (Although that is not what it used to be, heh)
From what, 50 nations in 1945 to over 200 nations today.
“l’existence d’une nation est…… un plebiscite de tous jours.” – Renan.
Try to stay current eh.
@ Manty
You raise some interesting points but miss one important thing. Quebec sponges off of the ROC and cannot survive without those handouts. Alberta pays into the ROC and would be better off on it’s own.
Joe/rockyt/phil:
It’s very simple, Alberta is either:
1) a province of Canada with all the benefits and responsibilities or
2) a foreign country with none of the benefits and responsibilities
Which is it 1 or 2?
The Oil Sands are one of the benefits which the province of Alberta enjoys and was developed in Canada. “Albertans” didn’t ‘create’ the Oilsands… they occurred naturally. Europeans came to that part of early Canada at the turn of the 20th century with the offer of Free Land from the government of Canada that I guess was sort of repossessed from the native Indians of the region…like squatters. If the Oilsands ‘belongs’ to anybody it seems to me that it’s the original squatters, the natives.
A newly seceded country of Alberta would have a very long and complicated task to negotiate terms to secede after 145 years of history. Unilateralism and negotiation are mutually exclusive terms. Ultimately, unilateralism is the pointed barrel of a gun and as is quite evident in Afghanistan today, there IS a line in the sand in regards to oil and the national interests of Canada.
So the question remains:
Is Alberta a province or a foreign country?
Shit or get off the pot, you can’t be both at your convenience.. Quebec tried that.
Oh and we forgot to tell you manty, central Canada doesn’t make the rules anymore.
Western Canada will do what we want, when we want, and to who we want.
I know its always a great shock to people when they finally realize that their hegemony on power has slipped away.
It always leads to wild-eyed radicals calling out the army or guns or whatever, trying to recapture old glories of the old empires.
Such stereotypical behaviour.
That’s exactly what the wacko Trudeau was all about – trying to recapture the alleged glory years when the French owned/ran Canada.
Are you related to him?
Talking about reclaimation, when is Ontario going to reclaim the land that has been polluted by the city of Toronto and other urban areas. These lands were in the fertile Niagra peninsula growing food and other much needed crops but they were covered with concrete and asphalt as well as housing developments. When the govt of Ontario moves their cities to the areas where crops cant grow then they can talk to Alberta and Saskatchewan. We have millions of acres of productive land NOT covered by concrete.
Which is it rockyt, 1 or 2?
Is Alberta a province or a foreign country?
Shit or get off the pot, you can’t be both at your convenience.. Quebec tried that.
So come on man which is it?
