I don’t have any real understanding for the point of that person’s thoughts. I don’t see Obama at more risk for being murdered than any other candidate, including Hillary.
To suggest that Obama is at a greater risk because of his mixed race is absurd and not supported by reality. We have long had important and very public position in the US govt held by people that are not white, especially so in the current administration.
To say that Obama is more at risk from racist nutbars compared to other nutbars for any other candidate should be mocked. This is the 21st century and Obama is not trying to run for office in Alabama in the 1870’s.
McRae is hardly being original. Just last weekend Nobel Prize winner Doris Lessing said that if Obama became president, he would surely be assassinated. “They would murder him,” she said, although she declined to say who “they” are.
And if hate were all it took to ensure an assassination, how is it that Bush has survived this long?
I’ll give 2 to 1 odds that Obama suffers from some form of “lead poisoning” within the first six months of his presidency.

First off, Macrae refers to Obama as a “secular Christian”. Could someone please tell me WTF that means? It looks like an oxymoron to me…
But for the musings about assassinations; I have to admit ever since Hill-billy and Obama-rama took front runner positions, I’ve wondered which one would get shot first. It’s just a question of statistical outliers; there are 330 million Americans, and while I’m willing to bet that 325 million or so, regardless of whether they like Hill-Billy or Obama-rama, would never even consider getting involved with an assassination.
Unfortunately, that leaves 5 million or so that are out in the sixth, seventh, or eighth standard deviation from the centre, and the odds are just too great that someone who thinks that a black man or a white woman should never be president will make an attempt.
I want to stress: I’m not hoping for this to happen, I would be horrified if it did happen, and I think it would rip open wounds that no one in the US, Canada, or the free world for that matter, wants to see exposed. But, I am afraid it will happen, and I fear what the aftermath might bring, especially if Obama-rama is the candidate. The deaths of Malcolm X and MLK Jr. were bad enough, but if Obama were to be shot down, I think that the rift between black and white America could never be healed. I fear the resulting violence would escalate, and that various groups would “justify” the killing of blacks or whites as retribution. The resulting civil dissolution would just encourage more restrictive legislation along the lines of the morally bankrupt Patriot Act, and further restrictions on travel, border crossings, etc. I also believe it will be a devastating blow to the US economy (and hence, the Canadian economy.)
My hope is a McCain-Obama-rama contest where both candidates emerge hale and healthy at the end, with McCain winning. Any scenario which includes the death of either of the Democratic contenders is a recipe for disaster in my opinion.
Personally I think George W has a better chance at getting killed.

Remember, RFK was shot by a Palestinian – the Left seems to have forgiven them for that, but has not forgiven southern white males for killing JFK. IMHO The Ottawa Sun is a right leaning paper and Earl McRae is a long time columnist who writes “humour” and human interest bits about local characters. He is a founding member of the renowned Ottawa Elvis Sighting Society. He often writes about us folks in the Ottawa Valley along the lines of – when a young couple up there marries, are they still brother and sister??
