1. I was very moved by these pictures. God bless all our fighting men and women, especially those who don’t make it home alive. Personally, if I were in the heartbreaking position of the loved ones of the deceased, my spirit would be buoyed up by the obvious concern, if not love, displayed by those taking the time to pay their last respects to a bona fide hero: “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13
Nursedude, your information is very informative. Thanks. Is there a web site anywhere, where one can get the information about when/where these entourages will be passing?

2. Lookout, lets just hope and pray,we won’t need the info you required above.Bless ’em all,and keep them safe.

3. “members of the journalistic class openly, and not so openly, campaign for our defeat”- Kate
That sounds fascinating. Could someone provide me links of these people from the MSM in Canada (CBC, CTV, G&M, Star, Sun, Free Press, etc) who have actually campaigned openly for our defeat. I need to know who these people are who have factually written down in a newspaper column that they want our troops to fail or to be overthrown. (No freelancers though, just full time columnists of a major news provider in Canada)
Thanks!

4. my screen shows, before scrolling, what is close to a destroyers deck–at first i figured it was a navy salute!
The important thing is the support for our soldiers in any way,,personally I prefer it otherwise.

5. As retired Canadian Forces I admit getting more than a bit choked and misty-eyed (allergies?) at the show of respect for a fallen soldier.

6. Funny, I posted this earlier and seems to have disappeared. Is it something I said? The truth that conservatives don’t lie to hear maybe?
From the second link (now)
“Casualties in Afstan: Good news at 10
That is at the bottom of page A10 of the Globe and Mail’s Ontario edition. Nice job of burying the good news, editors–when every death makes the front page:”
Apparently the writer wants people to somehow believe that less troops wounded (in battle) news worthy of front page coverage. Let me know when there are no troops wounded or killed, then it will be worthy of front page.
So what does the printed edition of the Globe really say about the wounded?
Wounded in Combat
2006 – 180
2007 – 84
A 46% decrease
But!!!!
Non-combat injuries (as listed in the G&M)
2006 – 85
2007 – 298
An increase of 285%
It looks as if the CF is fudging the numbers by playing with the definition of “wounded in battle”
The total casualties according to the Globe and Mail through the CF press release
2006 – 300
2007 – 412
So is this “good news” still worthy of front page coverage?
There’s more to a newspaper that the front page and a sunshine girl, but I wouldn’t expect conservatives to know this.

7.
Let me know when there are no troops wounded or killed, then it will be worthy of front page.
Libforlife,
Hold that thought, and play it out to the point that you find yourself sitting around a barrel fire with a bottle in a brown Bag. You will then know that what this world doesn’t need is.. You!
You & your kind are getting our troops killed for your own selfish political agenda’s
Soldiers have never been responsible for the Political decisions of their leaders.
Vietnam was a very different time with a coward for a president (LBJ) that made little sense. I would recommend reading the book VIETNAM by Stanley Karnow “A History” that puts thing in perspective.

8. LIFELESSLIB
“”””Non-combat injuries “”””
if you are gonna show numbers “qualify” them
other wize, garbage in = garbage out
and to those whom think we can’t win in Afigan
“to try and fail is better than to never try”
thusly our heros will allways be winners, as they have tried
THANKS TO THOSE WHO HAVE TRIED TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

9. “You & your kind are getting our troops killed for your own selfish political agenda’s”
What, I’m getting soldiers killed by pointing out obvious spin from a right wing blog? Oh I see, “you’re getting troops killed”, “if you’re not with us, you’re against us”, “if you don’t support the war, you don’t support the troops”: some of that conservative mantra again, right. Do you ever miss reality Phil?
Letting the enemy know where the leader of the opposition is supposed to be the following day in Afghanistan is what gets troops killed for selfish political agenda Phil.

10. GYM, it clearly states where the numbers come from: the Feb 8 2008 Globe and Mail P-10 print edition, whose source was National Defence.
Spin spin spin that American pseudo patriotism GYM.

11. Spoke to a young soldier the other day who will be going over in Nov. and he understands why we’re there and is glad to do his part. He and his fiancee are postponing their wedding until he returns.
While on schemes in the area, the locals in a nearby town told them that we were only over there for the OIL.
The group he’s going with saw this article in their local newspaper the other day:
Chuck Wiley crossed the border into Canada during a snowstorm last winter with little more than a car chock full of belongings and a hope he would one day become a Canuck.
The former U.S. navy chief petty officer and his wife now live in Canada with an uncertain future.
Wiley, 35, is one of an estimated 200 American soldiers who have moved to Canada after deserting their homeland to avoid serving in Iraq. Many have found refuge in Toronto, where they are members of an organization called the War Resisters Support Campaign, which is working to find a way to allow them to legally stay in Canada.
Yesterday, he spoke to students and faculty at Queen’s University to drum up public support for a motion expected to go before the House of Commons that would allow war resisters and their families to seek asylum in Canada. The motion, from the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration, also calls for an immediate halt to deportation proceedings in these cases.
Wearing jeans and a black T-shirt emblazoned with “Say Yes to Soldiers Who Say No,” Wiley told the crowd that he would like to see Canada become “a refuge for those who don’t want to participate in an unjust war.”

12. “to try and fail is better than to never try”
I’m not sure if it’s a bit embarrassing to admit that my current underwear reads (I’m not kidding – I’d post a photo, but, you know…): “You tried your best but failed miserably. The lesson is never to try”.
– Homer Simpson

13. I would suggest that all left-lib retards get the f**k out of this thread. It celebrates those who actually do something for this country, and not suck at its teat while deriding true men and women. Libforlife – go f**k yourself – you’re a waste of oxygen.
Firestarter, if you can’t find the suble defeatism in our media, learn how to read critically. You haven’t been paying attention – just like your twin gods Layton and Dion – the liberal fascist twins. Heck, just learn how to read. I know you lefties live on emotion and not intellect. I should know better than to expect literacy.A

14. Libforlife – let’s see if I get this straight your issue by your stats is that war has casualties? What moronic parallel universe do you live in where cops and soldiers don’t get killed in the line of duty? And in what parallel universe is there never a duty to be soldiers or cops?
A shot was never fired by armed UN peacekeepering soldiers in Rwanda while 800,000 Tutsis were killed by Hutu militia at a rate of 10,000 killed each day. UN soldiers observed the whole thing rather than risk a casualty or criticism for intervening from craven little lefties like yourself. So much for the morality of pacifism. Can your little moonbat mind wrap itself around that disgusting paradigm?
You’re moniker is perfect for you. Anyone that declares they are anything “for life” is a closed minded, incurious, pooly educated bore.

15. gellen, the 60s are over. Get with the times.
Morningstar, one of the main reasons the Russian’s lost in Afghanistan had absolutely nothing to do with Afghanistan. It was that ordinary Russians at home could no longer support the Soviet regime. Why fight for a country that couldn’t even put bread and milk on the grocery store shelves? At the time the Red Army was in Afghanistan, the Soviet Union was crumbling within. It wasn’t long after that it collapsed.
I have no idea why the Brits didn’t prevail, but those are the only two countries that the left seems to be able to point to. Afghanistan has a much longer history than that.

16. “I know you lefties live on emotion and not intellect. I should know better than to expect literacy.”
Anon, you’re projecting.
Penny, of course troops get killed in war. The only problem is the military is trying to sugar coat the casualties. They know they can’t gag order the families of the wounded soldiers, so they are now fudging the numbers. It’s obvious to anyone with an IQ above a tape worm why they would do that. It’s to protect the automaton and his isodopes from his plummeting further in the polls.
joseCanUSee- “Cadets should be mandatory for all kids 8-12 years of age.”
You will be assimilated. Ziek, Harper!!! Ziek, Harper!!!
“If nothing else, the morons that show up at the stock car races…” Oh please stop, my ribs hurt. You have NASCAR tattooed somewhere on you body and have at least two OCC ball caps right?

17. “The 60s are over. Get with the times.”
Louise, I’m 80 and more with the times than you know. Since I’m a big supporter of our troops, and their mission, you might explain your comment.

18. libforlife,
Perhaps you’ve seen this quote before. Regardless, you should read, clip and tape it beside your 8×10 glossy of Neville Chamberlain.
“War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself” – J.S. Mill –

19. libforlife,
You illustrate well the moral terpitude exhibited by your grit leaders, and must be commended for being the useful idiot you prove to be by your inane comments here.
I admire Kate for her foresight in allowing posters such as yourself & iberia make fools of themselves. Warren & Jason are too cowardly to allow negative comments on their blogs, but choose to spin their liberal vision to their sycophants and the mindless. I’m sure you are a frequent visitor there, ecstatically absorbing words of wisdom…
You claim the military is “fudging the numbers” on our wounded to make themselves look good. If you can’t back it up with solid evidence, don’t open your gob and remove all doubt that you’re stupid.
Your puerile sarcasm “to protect the automaton and his isodopes from his plummeting further in the polls” is just another ad hominem attack on the PM
and reflects poorly on you. Do you want us start making fun of your god, the liberal leader? The field there is rather fertile, my friend…
And finally, it’s “Sieg Heil” if you want to trot out the CTV insult again. Be precise in your attempts at sarcasm. All you’ve shown by your presence here is that you’re an illiterate, brain-dead cretin who probably left school at 15, because they’d only let you repeat grade 3 so many times.

20. Alienated, thanks for the above clarification about Libforlife statements. It was too early in the morning on the west coast for me to get my head around the “Zeik” I thought he was trying to make some kind of comment about a redneck named Zeke. Gotta wake up, where is the coffee.

21. Alienated, you don’t like people calling your leader names? Oh that’s too bad isn’t it. Remember that the next time conservatives want to saddle the opposition with names like “Dithers”. I just wish I could take credit for Harper’s new name “The Automaton” but sadly I can’t.
http://bcinto.blogspot.com/2008/02/new-nickname-for-stephen-harper.html
You are right about one that thing I must now admit. When it comes to German, I am completely illiterate. Yes it’s true, I can’t even speak German to do more than tell the taxi to take me to the airport or order a beer and my German spelling is even worse. I thank you very much for correcting me and clarifying that it’s not “zeik” but it is instead “sieg”. The next time I need clarification on how the NAZIs salute I’ll be sure to ask a conservative first.

22. libforlife, you can’t take credit for ANY of the ad hominem attacks you are so fond of, they’re straight off the CBC & CTV spin doctors’ lips. Get an original thought once in a while if you wish to come here, as we tolerate your visits but find you guys… boring and trite.
BTW, the lovely name of Mr. Dithers was introduced first by one of the liberal spin doctors on CTV that you hold in such high regard, when he had to explain PMPM’s wavering on decision-making, and he called it “dithering”.
And if you really want someone to explain how nazis salute, I’m your man. My family comes from the Czech republic and lost everything to the nazis, so we are quite aware of “Sieg Heil.” My father was jailed by the bastards, we lost everything we owned and had to start from scratch in Canada. Equating me & other conservatives to nazis just proves my point: you’re a moron.
Now be a good little boy and go buck a fuffalo, or whatever your fellow liberals do for a pasttime. You bore me no end.

23. Alienated, don’t feel bad, a lot of people lost everything and were jailed for supporting the Nazis during WW2. I just find it amazing how many people claim to have witnessed fascism up close, but refuse to see its evolution within the Automaton’s government.
It suggests this is the form of government conservatives are hoping for.
Read this and try to find one point that doesn’t relate to this government.

25. Is today “feed the trolls day?” Or is everyone just looking to blow some time typing stuff into a computer that isn’t going to change the other guy’s mind?
Just curious.

26. libforlife, read the last line in my last post to you and take it to heart. You and your kind bore me no end.
Now kiss Stephanie Dion’s a$$ and feel better about yourself. Kiss your pal Hitler’s burnt a$$ as well since you have this affinity and familiarity to nazi propaganda.
Yeah Damian, I know the trolls are out… this is my last post to this a$$wipe. He’s probably some import dependant on liberal dollars who’s sweating bullets because PMSH could cut his welfare payments off after the next election.

27. Thanks, Louise. Appreciate it.
I was very struck with that young man. We can be very proud of our service men and women.
That day a group of them had been in a restaurant having breakfast and someone paid for all of them. He really appreciated it, as it was one way someone chose to show their support.

28. Libgetalife, since you are so enamoured with the term “automaton,” I suggest you read Erich Fromm’s cerebral book “Escape from Freedom,” where he uses that term. It describes people who cannot handle decisions of democracy, reach a form of entropy, where all information is the same, regardless of the source; hence, their voting behaviour becomes robotic, they become automatons who hand over their freedom for some sanitized, politically correct (far right in this example) fantasy to a zealot, Adolph Hitler in this study, who then moves them into totalitarianism, with a brutal revocation of democracy and free thought.
IOW you have it completely backwards. You sound a lot like the automotans described in “Escape from Freedom.” Maybe you support the thought police HRC, or the world of Jack Layton where military action is never an option.
Escape all you want, but I’m not interested; I suspect, neither is Kate or many others.

29. I was touched by the pictures as well. it is the least canada can do.
I dont know why you allow jerks like that libferlife to enter his opinions tho. He is really dumb nobody can be that stupid. I thought liberals were just crooks

30. Anon
You state the following:
“Firestarter, if you can’t find the suble(sic) defeatism in our media, learn how to read critically.”
Where in my post did I mention I wanted to find “subtle defeatism”? Kate wrote the following:
“..members of the journalistic class openly, and not so openly, campaign for our defeat..”
I clearly asked for links to the articles where a journalist has “openly campaigned” for our defeat.
I didn’t ask for ‘subtle’ clues. Give me a link from a National or Provincial paper where a full-time journalist has ‘openly campaigned for our defeat.’ If you can’t do that, then take back the original comment and admit you have no basis for it.
