  1. …finally!
Why wasn’t this done years ago?
The typical Eurowinnie need a good butt kicking of reality to shake them out of their latte induced coma’s.

  2. Too bad so sad for those euroweenie eco-wackos they have been so far living in their wacky world and now their oppisition to seal hunting has them in trouble too bad but it looks like the bunny huggers have hugged too many bunnies and the bunnies are gowing tired of it and the local natives are tired of these animal rights wussietards

  3. Well, you know, the Inuit just need to get a proppur edjiicayshun at a gud skule… like one of the ones environmentalists usually end up teaching at. Classes to include Behavior Modification 101, Conspiracy Theories (Area) 41, and Advanced Chomsky 305. Watermelon always available in the cafeteria, and your course counsellor will be a Mr. K. Potvin. All classes are publicly funded.

  4. This is the expected reaction when isolated urban busibodies attempt to impact the lives of people they have nothing in common with.
Does it not strike you as the height of elitist arrogance and vacuous presumption that someone ensconced in the concrete warrens of the Euro-urban civilly neutered environment would have the affrontery to presume they have a right to demand and direct changes in the life/lifestyle/culture of people thousands of miles away in a different nation?
This obnoxious assumption is the core belief system of transnational progressiveism….and as you can see it respects no national borders, nor national or cultural sovereignty….it assumes to be the supreme moral authority of the “global village”.
Thus the clash of ideologies between Inuit and Euro “transies”….the Transies certainly seemed SHOCKED that the Innuit did not share their world view, didn’t they?…interesting incident exposing the blind cultism in the contiuing devolution of the sovereign nation-state and liberal democracy in Europe to the tranzie cult.

  5. Patrick Moore (greenspirit.com) has been saying this, and more, for two decades.
The CBC alloted Suzuki thousands of hours of air time to tell lies.
I have never seen Patrick Moore on CBC. A real Canadian, from Vancouver Island. Co-founder of Greenpeace International. He started his own greenspirit.com when the fall of the Berlin Wall flooded the “environMENTAL movement” with fanatics. Patrick was instrumental in getting countries to now lift the stupid DDT ban that allowed maalia to kill millions. He helped stop the rediculous ‘vinyl ban’. Worked with foresters to develope sustainable logging practices, such as the clear-cut, meadow-inducing regrowth method.
Ever wondered why, in the 1980s, the European environMENTAL Bowel-movement was trying to induce a British Columbia forest products boycott ?? The fanatics at Greenpeace were just trying to get back at Patrick Moore. PM’s crime ?? Being reasonable.
But, oh no. What has the CBC imposed on us for decades ?? All Suzuki, all back-to-cave-Dave-ways.

  6. Paul McCartny’s ex-twit takes limo to exec jet.
Lays on a piece of carpet, on the ice, beside a seal.
The worlds ‘tabloid-flakes’, called the media, snap pictures.
The Canadian Inuit types keep working to feed their families. After a hard day on the ice they see on TV how good the Europeans are and how bad he is. Huh ??
Sound fair. Sounds Liberal Latte fair. Sounds like Day has made Dion’s day.

“This is the expected reaction when isolated urban busibodies attempt to impact the lives of people they have nothing in common with”
This is all too true, isn’t it? How many other examples of the attempts at self-righteous, do-gooder boneheads trying to social engineer or reshape the world for the proletariat with whom they’ve nothing in common:
    – registration of long guns for hunters, farmers etc.
    – the crippling of our industries (in Ontario, this means the Auto Sector & Hamilton Steel mills) with a zealous adherence to Kyoto
    – the desire for ever-increasing government legislation and regulation of every aspect of our lives (in Ontario, idiots who decry we should legislate helmet use for kids on toboggans, banning incandescent light bulbs, etc.)
    An increasingly-common problem, unfortunately.

  8. The question that should be asked of enviro loonies, whenever they try to shut down hunting, or trapping, by Aboriginals is ,”why are you dedicated to destroying the culture of the native people that has lasted for ten thousand years “?
In that context, their actions are contemptible. Frankly, their actions are contemptible in any context.

  9. Jaeger: I’m a little slow on the uptake but re-read the article and LMAO. Good one.
    WLM: Always a good read.
The Euronuts should take a look at the havoc being wreaked in their respective countries before coming over here and pompously telling us how to save the world.

  10. DMorris: I concur with your assesment that this political impacting on the lives of some of Canada’s true aboriginals ( whom I respect as being among the last true cultural remnants of traditional aboriginal lifestyle) makes this euro-progressivist assault on their culture even more heinous IMO.
With the Inuit we see a people/culture attempting to keep culturally pure by practicing the traditional hunter-gatherer neolithic marine lifestyle of which hunting/fishing is a primary part…their seal harvest is done with traditional methods and their impact is minor…regardless of this, the seal harvest is part of an overall rational plan for sound wild game and fish stock management.
Personally I think the euro-flakes and green weenies are losing this battle in all but the very upper reaches of the idle rich progressivist cults.

  11. I just read recently that the Cdn. seal hunt is worth about 30 million a year.
I also read that the save the seal foundations take in about 80 million a year from pushing their schtick.
Now if those people were truly concerned about the chubby fuzzies, they would give the seal hunters 30 million and still be ahead a princely sum.
    Makes sound economic sense.
Of course we know it doesn’t work that way as alot of leaches in the protest industry would be out of a job as funding would likely dry up.
Its interesting though as there is such a burgeoning seal population out there, one has to wonder just what impact on fish stocks this presents.
Perhaps its time for badges and banners that state…
    “Club A Seal…Save a Cod”.

  12. these people are so apart from any natural world that they cannot concieve that these people survive differently from us. they also expect wild elephants to be like the friendly creatures at the zoo.

  13. I always thought it was funny that there was so much hype over hunting seals by newfies but none over polar bears that are mostly hunted by eskimoes.
    Sounds like racism to me.

  14. “Club A Seal…Save a Cod”
I remember seeing a documentary a few years about the seals only taking one bite out of the cod and leaving it resulting in the seabed floors around NFLD are just ‘littered’ with fish carcasses.

  15. In my opinion the most important part of the article was at the bottom:
“Increasingly, First Nation communities are signing deals and making agreements with private-sector partners to develop their traditional territories. But, unlike extreme environmentalists, they take a balanced approach to development and it must occur on their terms.”
It is true that deals are being made but the deals have nothing to do with “partners” or partnerships. It is simple extortion. If you want to develop the resource sign over:
    – $$ immediately;
    – only hire native people and businesses;
    – (x)% of the annual revenue;
    – and in most cases hand over 100% ownership of the asset after (y) years.
I wonder how the above is being reported in the financial statements of the private sector partners. Potential for future Enron reporting perhaps (i.e. deferred write-downs).
In their decisions the Supreme court pretty much dictated that Crown resources were now Traditional Territories resources. When you read the above, think perceived ownership.
I also find the “balanced approach to development” line rather humourous as well.

Well, I sure hope that they do not go to the same school where you learned your English. Did you get your mother to finish your sentences?

“It is true that deals are being made but the deals have nothing to do with “partners” or partnerships. It is simple extortion. If you want to develop the resource sign over:

If any old joe blow wanted to start a business, how do they accomplish that? Probably by obtaining a loan to buy either land or a business from someone.
“- only hire native people and businesses;”
I would think that if the business were located on a reserve, they would most likely hire reserve residents. What’s wrong with that?
”- (x)% of the annual revenue;”
Pretty well everyone who owns a business has to pay taxes, even those located on a reserve are not completely exempt from paying taxes.
”- and in most cases hand over 100% ownership of the asset after (y) years.”
When a person is finished paying for his business loan, he owns the asset free and clear.

  17. Nice try Xena but you are as clueless as the rest of Canadians.
Thanks to the unelected Kings/Queens of the supreme court have given the FN have an unoffical veto over all development on crown lands. The requirement placed on the Crown by the SC was that FN have “meaningfull consultation” regarding any development on their “traditional” lands (read all land). The Crown does not do this but forces their duty to consult onto the proponent of a development (read mill, mine, power line, gas line, well site, power plant, etc.)
The proponent then must review the “impacts” of the project with any FN that expresses interest. During discussions the environmental impacts are never discussed and it boils down to how much you are going to pay them so they won’t actively block the development approval process up front or occupy your project later (read Calidonia).
The requests for compensation are as MIKE-RoA has indicated which is up to and including giving the assest to the FN after the proponent has payed any loans. All at no risk to the FN.
The SC has given the FN a license to extort.
The court system has given the FN a license to occupy.
This situation is only going to get worse – much worse.
In case anyone thinks I’m off topic – The FN only care about extorting as much $$ as possible using thier “we’re at one with nature” bull crap. The green moonbats may wake up to this before the rest of us do. A very sad commentary on us.

  18. ‘Warior Princess’, you really need to get out of your suburban condo a little more.

  19. “The SC has given the FN a license to extort”
Did you read that somewhere? give me some examples.
“Thanks to the unelected Kings/Queens of the supreme court have given the FN have an unoffical veto over all development on crown lands. The requirement placed on the Crown by the SC was that FN have “meaningfull consultation” regarding any development on their “traditional” lands (read all land).”
the feds and the provincial governments hold about 90% of all crown land, with the feds holding about 45%. the reserves are located on fed crown land, so it only makes sense that they should hold consultations. The provinces manage their portion of the crown lands with very little interference from the feds. My question is, if companies have to do environmental assessments and such for projects around major centers, why do you make such a big deal when it involves traditional land?

  20. Xena, the dog….
I speaking from personal experience having been directly involved face-to-face with FN. Traditional lands are anything that they claim is thiers. As an example, check into Calidonia. No reserve anywhere around.
In BC the FN have claimed more than the entire area of the province (claims overlap). This makes any project in BC open to extortion.
The extortion is often up front and very open.
“Pay us or we’ll block your project approvals”…
And if you do get approval… “Pay us or we’ll occupy your site”…
In Ontario the OPP will warn you of an impending illegal occupation and state openly they won’t do anything about it.
All this has nothing to do with the impacts or environment.
You should out of your condo a little more.

  21. “Traditional lands are anything that they claim is thiers. As an example, check into Calidonia. No reserve anywhere around.”
They can claim all they want. I blame Caledonia on the province and feds because they did not step in to put an end to that nonsense. The FN there made a bogus claim and no one called them on it. I’ve always maintained the police should have moved in an arrested anyone within that site.
“speaking from personal experience having been directly involved face-to-face with FN”
I always go back to that old saying, something about painting everyone with the same brush. Check out the Oosoyos ?? FN in BC. Their yearly contribution to the local economy is something like 35 million per year.
So they’ve claimed all of BC. Deal with it. The problems stem from the governments refusing to even deal with this issue. In Alberta, there is a land claim that dates back 100 years. Reserve land was promised to those who signed the treaty, these people are still waiting for their land. Why should it take so long? The faster the feds deal with these issues of land claims, the better and I also strongly believe that civil unrest like happened in Caledonia should be put down quickly.
Oh yeah BTW, it sucks to be indoors all day.

  22. I’ll deal with it but I suspect my children and grandchildren won’t be so easy going.
I won’t even bring up the preferential FN sentencing law.
I like the way Newfoundland delt with it.

  23. if we deal with the problem today, our children and grandchildren won’t have to. we should all be concerned that European environmentalists are meddling into our affairs. If they do manage to ban seal hunting, how do we deal with the resulting overpopulation?

  24. another question, didn’t the Europeans ban seal products in the 1970s? didn’t they destroy the Inuit economy once before? i apologize if my memory is failing me.
