Oh brother.. talk about an attempt to freep a vote - Small Dead Animals?? That’s crying out for trying to make a mockery of this category - as Kate is the farthest thing from a feminist.

[Moderator note]: A category judge will make the call as to if a blog is eligible or not. Remember, 50% or more of the posts should suit the topic(s) of a category. Please email concerns to the CBA Operators, and leave the nomination pages free of chatter.

    Dear admin;

You can go fuck yourself very much, please.

What Kate so indelicately proposes, I think, is that her view of women’s “rights” may pose a form of feminism unto itself that could be recognized by the conservative side. Feminism is often awash in liberal progressive values that may not reconcile with every woman’s view of the progressive rights of women in society.

Having said that, I think the philosophical choice for what best constitutes a “feminist” is best left for a different forum and a different time. At present I would vote to reject Kate’s inclusion in this category.

As for Kathy Shaidle, well, that’s just silly.

Pleeeze! I do NOT want to catch any cooties from the hairy-armpitted “feminists” who will make up this category.

Raphael: the more “educated” you try to sound, the dumber you come off. “Unto itself”? “At present”? Sheesh.

How much more feminist can you get than a chick that runs her own business and shoots her own deer?

    You people are funny!

A feminist is a woman who believes that women are equal to men and lives her life accordingly.

  • Gus // November 4, 2008 at 7:38 am

Kathy, you forgot to add “self absorbed”. Well put Kate!

Kate M. Lives the feminist dream. She is completely self-reliant, runs at least two successful businesses that I know of and continues to blaze a trail for Canadian bloggers.

I don’t think she consults with men on any of these endeavors. Doesn’t take government money and she is much better looking and thinner than most of the feminists I have met.

If she hasn’t set a grand example for women in Canada, I don’t know who has.

I know she is not a Liberal, but I don’t think that is a prerequisite to being a free thinking liberated, successful woman. Is it?

[Moderator note]: Please everyone, respect the rules of the nomination pages, and leave chatter out. Take the discussion elsewhere. Judges will have to clean up the comments that are not allowed.

You also should not “second” any nominations.

Absolutely - without a doubt - Kayla said it best!

Kate is the epitome of what I would call a feminist… motorcycle and all!

Kate @ smalldeadanimals. She represents what a feminist is in today’s world. She as a woman will take no backseat to anyone in communication, business and everyday skills of living as a Canadian first or a world citizen.

    Thanks Jim O’Brien.

This nomination is a surprise to me but as a woman who simply did what she wanted to, including balance family and career, I suppose I am a feminist — in the broad sense of the term (no pun intended).

Actually, I can remember how ticked off I was years ago when I wasn’t considered a feminist simply because I was a pro-life conservative, albeit one who also believed in gender equality — including SSM.

However, as someone who came of age in the 1960’s, I view it simply as a matter of equality, about choice, the freedom to do what you want — and not just for women but for men as well.

In other words, a woman can be a feminist, whether she likes to hunt moose, get a Ph.D or be a fulltime mom, or all of the above.

So, I will have some good company here.

This should be fun. Again, thanks Jim, whoever and wherever you are.

Kate SDA all the way. She puts the boots to a lot of balls - that’s my kind of feminism.

  • Rick // November 4, 2008 at 9:06 am

    SDA gets my vote!

  • jeff // November 4, 2008 at 9:07 am

The mod sounds like a teacher in the 6th grade yelling at the kids to behave, cept none of em are listing.

Kate will get majority of votes-nominations but won’t win. Some more enlightened judges will find a more suitable winner.
