Harper on the military

Anybody remember when Harper said that casualties in Afghanistan improve the Canadian military? Here's a video that uses the clip. I hope I did it some justice.

UPDATE

Perhaps I went a too far with this one. With no training in media, I didn't realize how strong an emotional reaction I was creating. The great thing about the Internet is that thousands of people don't need to see an ad on TV before you realize you made a mistake.

It's about the pride and grief Canadians feel when men and women in uniform make the ultimate sacrifice in the service of freedom. The sacrifices they make so you can sit at your keyboard and take cheap shots.

You just don't get it. Shame.

I've stared at this car wreck long enough. Last visit from me, likely ever.

Haven't you Liberals learned by now that using the military for Liberal attack ad material is just going to backfire in your faces again? That video was the lamest yet. You can tell how desperate you are by the haphazard and flailing way you cobbled that together.

Every military force ever, for good or for ill and upon reflection, learns from actions where casualties are suffered; thus improving our force as a whole for future engagements. It is baffling that you cannot understand this simple concept.

I shudder when I think of the possibility that Liberals that think as you do could possibily be in charge if (and hopefully not when) an attack should occur here, or be responsible for making decisions regarding our military in action.

Note: If you are going to want the mainstream media to play videos, or to stay up on YouTube, one should probably leave out copyrighted material (like extremely popular music).

The video "forgot" to mention the point about why Canada got stuck in Kandahar. Canada got stuck in Kandahar began of Paul Martin's dithering. Paul Martin couldn't decide whether staying beyond the end of the Kabul mission was good or bad politically, and while he was dithering, our NATO allies got to pick all the safer provincial reconstruction areas, leaving Canada with Kandahar.

Martin, Dion, and many other Liberals in Martin's cabinet and now in the shadow cabinet didn't seem to have known how dangerous Kandahar was going to be, because they seemed surprised when Canadians began getting killed.

They gave the impression of not having considered the danger in accepting the Kandahar assignment when they committed Canada to Kandahar.

Considering that Chretian got us into this mess & Martin also kept us there I find this video crass and vulgar & extremely offensive.I doubt you have lost a nites sleep worrying about our sons & daughters in Ganny other than to make political hay when body bags come home. Now I understand why the LPC is percieved as nothing more than a party of hypocritical wobblies. If this was meant to help the dear glorious leader Dion by demonising Harper I am with Jl,shame & goodbye

Truly disgusting, Cherniak. Leave it to the LPC to try and make political hay off of dead Canadian soldiers.

Odd. I thought the disgusting part was Harper's suggestion that casualties make for a better military.

I've had it with you, Jason. I used to have respect for you. No more, and for the reasons so eloquently stated in the first four (and likely other) posts. Goodbye.

This was taken from AVLA's web site.

"Anyone that copies songs or music videos for commercial use needs the permission of the copyright owners (record companies) or a license from AVLA. Copying songs or music videos (and publicly exhibiting music videos) without permission is infringement of copyright and the person doing so may be subject to prosecution in a court of law."

Of course with your law degree it would be obvious that you paid the necessary fees to use Come Together.

Jason, it is a simple concept, as I've already explained at 2:27pm. Why you cannot understand that is unfathomable

This ignorant and repeated statement shows just how out of touch the Liberal Party is with the military, or any military concept regarding this. I cannot wait for the electorate to "explain" that to you guys. :D

I'm not a fan of Stephen Harper. Hell, as a Newfoundlander, I'm fairly disgusted with the guy these days.

However, your intimation that he thinks Canadian deaths are a good thing is going too far.

You've made a habit out of taking Harper's words and twisting for your partisan goals and, frankly, it's wearing on me.

Perhaps when you start to turn off people who, like me, have true disdain for the guy, it's time to reconsider your tactics.

In the meantime, however, you're off my rss feed. I just can't take this stuff anymore.

Obviously no experience in marketing either.

I don't think the phrase "a better military...because of the casualties" is disgusting; I think it's nonsensical. And not because Harper was speaking nonsense, but because it is devoid of context.

What I assume Harper was saying, not having seen the full interview at any point, is that the grief and pride fellow soliders feel about the casualties binds them together and makes them stronger. If that's the case, I don't think it's disgusting at all.

A strong emotional reaction is hardly required to point out copyright infringement, Jason.

Uh, Jason? A strong emotional reaction is hardly required to point out copyright infringement.

Nice try though.

Jason, all partisanship aside, you truly are a disgusting person. Ugly on the inside if you think this kind of post is acceptable.

And worse, you are obviously using the dead bodies of Canadian soldies to 'turn the page' away from another day of Adscam. Disgusting is to shy a word for your behaviour.

As a former member of the military, I demand that you apologize immediately.
