If a man loudly rushes to Angela Merkel (CDU), if he only a few metres in front of her security people will be overwhelmed if this man is a 23 year old Afghan, if he gets something also here that is similar to what sounds like "Allahu akbar" - then set other well-known reflexes too.

It happened on Wednesday morning at the exit of the Berlin Reichstag building. Merkel was re-elected just to go into their sedan, as the unknown ran off on her. After all, what happened in the past years in European cities, after all the bombings and knife attacks, often accompanied by "Allahu akbar"-call, had the scene scaring everyone, who stood or as video saw the scene on a screen.

More about the man is now known. World Police sources learned the droughts circulating information is first of all correct: it is Afghan, and he is 23 years old. However, he does not live in Berlin. Rather he comes from the Swabian Germany, located southeast of Stuttgart. And he has not occurred so far by the police.

Islam, Women, and Phyllis Chesler

This foolishness, this madness - this outright patriarchy-worship in the guise of feminism, this perverse insistence that political virtue always consists in taking the side of "the other," even if "the other" is out to oppress or rape or even kill you - this is what Chesler is up against. And her only weapon is the facts. That's what this book is - 462 pages of facts about a culture whose systematic abuse of women she refuses to stop talking about. In these pieces, she takes us to Iran and Iraq, Sudan and Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, Syria and Turkey, Nigeria and Pakistan, and France and Britain and the U.S. She attends to such phenomena as forced marriage, underage brides, honor killings, female genital mutilation (FGM), Muslim family rapes, female suicide bombers (and their Western defenders), splenetic Muslim cabdrivers in New York, slaveholding by a Muslim millionaire on Long Island, and much else. Not to mention plenty about burkas ...

Instead Geraldo wants to tighten up vehicle rental. Why? Why should open, free societies become closed, monitored, ugly, cramped and cowering?

Premier Daniel Andrews says he's "very troubled" by the Islamic Council of Victoria's suggestion for safe spaces where Muslim youth "could be radical".

The council made a submission asking for taxpayer-funded "safe spaces" where young Muslims can express themselves openly, even if those views are "inflammatory".

Mr Andrews says he is very concerned about their proposal and the council's state funding will be reviewed.

"There is no safe way to rail against the West. There is no safe way to rail against the values that we hold dear," Mr Andrews told reporters.

"I am very troubled by the suggestion that we might have a space where people could be radical as part of a deradicalisation program. That makes no sense to me whatsoever."

Suicide bombers and gunmen attacked Iran's parliament and the Mausoleum of Ayatollah Khomeini in Tehran on Wednesday morning, killing at least 12 people in a twin assault at the heart of the Islamic Republic, Iranian officials and media said.

Islamic State claimed responsibility and released a video purporting to show gunmen inside the parliament building and one body, apparently dead, on the floor.

"There is no reason to be alarmed by this."

The sad truth, and getting sadder with every attack, is that the political class has little interest in doing what would really be necessary to combat Islamist terrorism, let alone talk about it. They don't want to talk about how Britain's lax immigration policies over decades led to hundreds of thousands of immigrants entering the country with varying degrees of willingness to assimilate and adopt Western values. They don't want to openly criticize the blatant problems with the multiculturalism the UK has pursued for years and the obvious impact it has had on the immigrant population.

Oh no. This would cost them too much. It would shatter the façade of political correctness that's been constructed over our "civilized" western world, and destroy the illusion, so vital to the political class, that Western values are universal.

The politicians are only willing to give speeches about how united we are and how terrorists cannot tear us apart. But the truth--so clear and obvious--is that with every attack the West becomes more and more divided. We are not united, not by a long shot. Before the bodies of the poor souls who were killed Saturday by radical Islamists were even identified, the Left and Right were at one another's throats. On that score, the terrorists emerge victorious every time.

I believe in Austria the minimum age of consent is 14, so, by definition, a ten-year old cannot "consent" to a "sexual act", if violent anal rape can be dignified as such.

Or at least that's the way we used to understand it in the civilized world. Of course, in much of the rest of the planet - and especially in the Muslim world - children are obliged to "consent" to all kinds of things. Once upon a time, when the unfortunate denizens of such societies came to the west, we were culturally confident enough to require them to assimilate with us.

Instead, in an age of civilizational self-loathing, we assimilate with them. So the same sexual license young Muslim men enjoy in, say, Kandahar now extends to Linz and Salzburg .

The United States and its negotiating partners agreed "in secret" to allow Iran to evade some restrictions in last year's landmark nuclear agreement in order to meet the deadline for it to start getting relief from economic sanctions, according to a report reviewed by Reuters.

The report is to be published on Thursday by the Washington-based Institute for Science and International Security, said the think tank's president David Albright, a former U.N. weapons inspector and co-author of the report. It is based on information provided by several officials of governments involved in the negotiations, who Albright declined to identify.

Reuters could not independently verify the report's assertions.

"The exemptions or loopholes are happening in secret, and it appears that they favor Iran," Albright said.

Among the exemptions were two that allowed Iran to exceed the deal's limits on how much low-enriched uranium (LEU) it can keep in its nuclear facilities, the report said. LEU can be purified into highly enriched, weapons-grade uranium.

The air base at Incirlik, Turkey, used by the U.S.-led coalition to launch airstrikes and other missions against the Islamic State group, remains without power four days after a failed coup. Officials say there has been no move yet to turn it back on.

The U.S. has been relying on back-up generators to run base facilities and continue flight operations out of Incirlik.

Reuters;

Around 50,000 soldiers, police, judges, civil servants and teachers have been suspended or detained since the coup attempt, stirring tensions across the country of 80 million which borders Syria's chaos and is a Western ally against Islamic State.

One can only wonder whether Air Force One is making preparations to fly to France and Obama and his speechwriters are already preparing a speech in which:

  1. The first half will mourn the loss of all the innocent lives taken in a matter of minutes.

  2. Then a pivot will occur and he'll spend the rest of his time condemning the French populous for causing this massacre.

German officials now believe that 2,000 men assaulted more than 1,200 women. Only 120 suspects -- "half of them foreign nationals who had only recently arrived in Germany" -- have been identified. A grand total of four have been convicted.

My aunt lives on La Ligne 13. She, like most of my family is French. French and Jewish. She lives in the Paris that the tourists think can never change. But this is not the France we knew. Outside her apartment on the pavement someone has spray-painted in black "Too Many Arabs", while inside our family has been arguing. Le Bataclan, les banlieues, Marine Le Pen, burnt police cars, jihadi assassinations, the HyperCacher -- do we smell smoke?

If we get one more failed president then Marine Le Pen will win the presidency, says my uncle. My aunt wants a British passport. This is hysteria! Let's be calm, tuts my cousin. But the killings have already started, says his wife. Round and round it goes. Optimists, turning into pessimists, and back again. Are we paranoid? I am on the Métro to find out.

The forgotten other U.S. terror attack on LGBT:

Yet the American government never treated the Brown murders as acts of domestic terrorism as they are calling the Orlando massacre at the gay nightclub. And perhaps because media reporting of the Brown case was so scattered, episodic, and highly localized, most of us have never even heard of it in a way that would have afforded the nation an opportunity to comfort the families of the victims, who also were targeted because they were LGBT. Neither were the families given the benefit of a formal federal declaration as to WHY their loved ones died: the retribution of radical Islam. And lastly, when federal authorities declare an act of terrorism, full investigations tend to unfold for co-conspirators, foreign connections, lessons learned, intelligence failures and so on... Without a terrorism acknowledgement, it's unclear if this case ever prompted such all-important introspective treatment, or more importantly, rolled up other cocked and loaded Islamic extremists.

'ISIS' killer 'chanted Allahu Akbar' as he murdered police commander and wife in Paris

Is Islamapologia a word yet?

A 70-year-old Christian woman has been stripped naked, beaten and paraded through the streets by a mob of around 300 Muslim men in a village in southern Egypt.

The mob also burned down seven homes belonging to Christian families, according to an unusually outspoken statement issued by the local Orthodox Coptic church, after rumours circulated in the village that a Christian man was having a relationship with a Muslim woman.

She was asking for it.

The violence is representative of the tensions between the two religions in the province south of Cairo...

It's a tit-for-tat cycle of violence: because Christians exist, Muslims get tense.

James, via email,

Ontario, which prosecutes ordinary folks for slaughtering beef for neighbours, has sneakily allowed 40+ facilities to provide "ritual" Halal slaughter services.

This means that Muslims, without any training or certification, can go to these places and can cut their own goat's throat without stunning the animal - that would land anyone else before the courts.

And here's the kicker: the "certification" of these facilities as places where ritual Halal slaughters may be conducted was not granted by any Ontario or federal government agency, but rather, by a Muslim council.

List of Plants that Provide Eid-al-Adha Services

The White House and its supporters were set on two goals, one of them trivial, the other terrifying. The trivial objective was to give a failed presidency at least one foreign policy legacy item. That was to be expected, since the Obama administration, in permanent campaign mode since the day the president took office, has presided over the worst American foreign policy in the modern era.

The more stomach-churning objective is that the administration, as it turned out, really believed in its pledges to get America out of the Middle East, and decided early on that the only way to do this was to replace the United States in the region with a duumvirate of Russia and Iran. Here, the JCPOA was part of a huge gamble to transform the region, with nuclear weapons the secondary rather than primary issue. That's why J Street and others were involved: they were far less concerned with notional Iranian nuclear weapons than they were with advancing President Obama's Middle East legacy--without having to admit what it was.

[...]

It makes no difference if this or that provision of the deal is ironclad, because the White House never had an intention of enforcing any of it. The JCPOA wasn't a deal to stop a nuclear weapon, it was part of a plan to further a foreign policy agenda with which very few Americans would agree if it were stated to them clearly and unequivocally.

For those of us who thought the Iran deal didn't pass the sniff test from the start, it is bitter consolation that all this is coming out now. Sometimes being right isn't much of a comfort, and this is one of those times. But there's a far more damaging problem in all this: not only has the United States burned a lot of its credibility in this farce, but so have a fair number of journalists and experts.

Read it all.

Tarek Fatah;

In an attempt to enhance the presence of one linguistic group over another, some Canadian Muslims of Pakistani origin encouraged their community to give inaccurate information on the census form.

They asked Pakistani-Canadians to disown their own mother tongue, which is "Punjabi", and instead list "Urdu", so as to enhance Islamic numbers in Canada.

In addition, they apparently didn't want the Sikh community, who also speak Punjabi, to benefit from having more Punjabi speakers in Canada.

Did you here the Gormley show this morning (podcast) on the article about International Medical Graduates? He interviewed the author of the Univ. of Calgary study and opened the line for call-in.

I called and criticized allowing those who refuse to shake hands with a member of the opposite sex or who are doing a residency in Obstetrics with inadequate training and experience as being dangerous.

John thought it was easily overcome with some training, I countered with if their moral view is that women are morally inferior, lives worth less than that of a man. Then training isn't going to be enough.

I didn't use the term Muslim nor Islam, and neither does the article published by the Un. of Calgary.

Though everyone knows what is referred to... that which cannot be named out of fear.

Shortly after, a Muslim doctor named Mohamed from Regina called in. He criticized John for letting me say such things about Islam, and that moreso he'd allowed me to do that before.

Then he criticized the National Post as the only paper that would publish such an article. To top it off, he criticized that the article/study had even been done and published.

By the time he'd finished I was reminded of Tarek Fatah's warning that the M.B. is run by Engineers, Doctors and Lawyers... Their specialty is suppressing any public criticism of Islam using e.i. legal jihad -- the threat of lawsuits.

He then started putting his hands through my hair and made it clear that in his cultural background there were hardly any blonde women. I told him to go away, and for a short while he really did go away."

"But it was only to get his pals and a bit later he came back with three others. They stole my handbag and my cards."

And if that was not enough, she said that the four had then attacked her, bashing her to the ground in a rage before running off.

She said that from what they had said she understood they were from Afghanistan and that as she lay on the floor in agony nobody on the platform had helped.

After being treated at hospital for bruising to her head, shoulder and elbow as well as her spine and hips, she went to police.

And her distress had turned to anger when police had told her that she should change her hair colour and should not have been travelling alone after 8pm on public transport.

Refugees Go Clubbing In Russia, Harass Girls, Wake Up In Hospital The Next Morning

The refugees tried to flee but were quickly captured by the Russians. They then took them out to the street and gave them a beating they will remember. Police arrived to break up the fight but locals report that they threw a few punches at the refugees before arresting 33 of them. Eighteen refugees were in such bad condition they had to be take to the hospital.

Migrants from the Near East in a nightclub in Murmansk begun to bother girls.

By the time they realized that they are not in the European Union it was too late.

Earlier the media informed about a 50 member group that was deported from Norway back to Russia due to "bad behaviour". This group apparently passed though Russia on their way to Norway.

After returning to Russia, the refugees decided to go have some good time in a nightclub, forgetting that they were no longer in Norway, they decided to have fun with some girls.

As it was they had a problem, in the region of Murmansk, tolerance toward immigrants is not up to the standard of good old, light of the world Europe.

From the comments in the local social media, it appears, that the migrants, after the local boys decided to give them lessons in local behaviour, wanted to hide in private residences. The migrants would have ended up in bad shape, if the police did not show up on time. It is rather cold in Murmansk at this time of the year.

The police, after arriving, attempted to cool the hot heads of the locals and pacify them to prevent lynching of the migrants. Locals though insist that even the police did not have much tolerance for the migrants and with a good measure added to the result of 18 migrants ending in a hospital and 33 in a cell block of the local constabulary.

Media manipulation: "This is no surprise. And neither is the press's gullibility."

WSJ;

The story of Anwar Ali, the Pakistani boy who severed his own hand earlier this month, underscores the deep, dangerous and often overlooked threat posed by radical Islam--its assault on the mind.

It is gut-wrenching that a 15-year-old boy, who raised his hand at evening prayers after the local imam asked who among them did not love the Prophet Muhammad--mistakenly thinking that the cleric had asked who did love the prophet--would cut off his own hand to prove his faith to the imam, who had accused him of blasphemy after the incident.

What's even more troubling is that, even as attempts were made to arrest the cleric, many in Khanqah, the eastern Punjab village where the spectacle occurred, defended both the imam and the boy's actions, praising his devotion to God.

On so many levels, this story is illustrative of the disease spreading within Islam. [...]

This is not just about repressive regimes and foreign-policy miscues that have helped this radicalism spread. This goes beyond the misogyny that says it's acceptable to abuse women and the medieval customs that endorse a boy's decision to sever his hand. This is an assault on diversity of thought and free thinking.

There is not an obvious military solution to deal with the instability and violence in the Middle East and North Africa, nor is it clear (even if we were successful in finding one) what the subsequent political resolution would be--the Arab uprisings have taught us as much. But we can all agree that radical Islam is a menace that is claiming not just lives, but hearts and minds too.

If we are fighting terrorism on all fronts then shouldn't we be tackling the underlying ideology instead of casting this as something completely devoid of religion?

"First of all, many of them are extremely demanding. They come to me and ask to get an apartment and a fancy car and, best of all, even a really good job for them.

The Canadian Press is in particularly fine form as they kick off the morning;

On Jan. 7, 2015, two French-born brothers killed 11 people inside the building where the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo operated, as well as a Muslim policeman outside. Over the next two days, an accomplice shot a policewoman to death and then stormed a kosher supermarket, killing four hostages. All three gunmen died.

(Emphasis mine, of course, lest we overlook the relative importance that religion played in the role of perpetrator and victims.)

Now back to Paris, where #JeSuisFrenchBorn commemorated the anniversary outside a police office;

French officials say the man shouted "Allahu Akbar!" (God is Great) outside a police station in Goutte d'Or, near Montmartre, where police shot and killed him.

They'd saved hard to get together the £9,000 for flights to make their family happy at Christmas. But were turned away at the gate by ruthless officials from USA Homeland Security who said they were no longer allowed to board.

And then there's the rest of the story.

"Why would I tell you about this?" the imam said. "They're not terrorists. They just hate the U.S. government."

Don't attribute to political correctness, that which can be explained by malice.

But after more than six months of research and tracking; over 1,200 law enforcement actions and more than 300 terrorists identified; and a commendation for our efforts; DHS shut down the investigation at the request of the Department of State and DHS' own Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Division. They claimed that since the Islamist groups in question were not Specially Designated Terrorist Organizations (SDTOs) tracking individuals related to these groups was a violation of the travelers' civil liberties. These were almost exclusively foreign nationals: When were they granted the civil rights and liberties of American citizens?

Worse still, the administration then went back and erased the dots we were diligently connecting. Even as DHS closed my investigation, I knew that data I was looking at could prove significant to future counterterror efforts and tried to prevent the information from being lost to law enforcement. In 2013, I met with the DHS Inspector General in coordination with several members of Congress to attempt to warn the American people's elected representatives about the threat.

In retaliation, DHS and the Department of Justice subjected me to a series of investigations and adverse actions, including one by that same Inspector General. None of them showed any wrongdoing; they seemed aimed at stopping me from blowing the whistle on this problem. Earlier this year, I was finally able to honorably retire from government and I'm now taking my story to the American people as a warning.

Of particular interest to investigators is the relationship between Farook, a 28-year-old U.S. citizen of Pakistani descent, and Tashfeen Malik, 27, a Pakistani national. While his upbringing and adult life in Riverside is chronicled in school files, work documents and other records, little is known publicly about her.

Authorities said Thursday that she was more than just an accomplice. At one point as the couple attempted to elude police, Malik fired an assault rifle out the back window of their sport utility vehicle at pursuing officers.

FNC;

Federal investigators believe there is a "very serious" possibility that Tashfeen Malik, one of two shooters who murdered 14 people and wounded 21 others in San Bernardino, Calif. Wednesday, radicalized her husband and co-assailant, county restaurant inspector Syed Farook, Fox News has learned.

[...]

Investigators believe that on at least one of those trips to Saudi Arabia, one or both members of the couple made contact with suspected Al Qaeda terrorists. The exact nature of that contact was not immediately clear.

Actually it's been the norm in all muslim countries for centuries. It's why they all live in walled fortresses.

In a recent article, Marvin Folkertsma carefully examines the many things that Radical "Progressives" and Radical Muslims have in common:

  • Both hate Christianity and Judaism

  • Both excuse the preaching of hatred towards disfavored ethnic groups

  • Both excuse violent attacks by Muslim terrorists, citing "Islamophobia"

  • Neither believe in free speech

  • Neither are capable of even the tiniest criticism, citing micro-aggressions or Islamophobia

  • Both hold America and Israel in contempt

  • Both favour rule by an unaccountable elite

  • Both have dreams of totalitarian rule with leaders selected by political or religious criteria

  • Both shun modernity, such as that provided by the energy from fossil fuels

  • Both lie habitually, believing such deception is completely justified

  • Both are determined to end, or severely curtail, our constitutional democracies that all stem from Judeo-Christian roots

Well worth passing on to your Left-of-Centre friends and asking them how they feel about having an undeniable kindredship with such folks. Expect to be dismissed as a "right wing hater", be accused of a micro-aggression that has invaded their safe space, or be brought up on charges by a human rights tribunal. Iran's stockpile of low-enriched uranium has increased in the past three months even though Tehran is supposed to reduce it significantly under a deal with major powers, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) determined in a confidential report Reuters saw on Wednesday afternoon.

Iran has also started to dismantle uranium enrichment centrifuges at its Natanz and Fordow nuclear facilities, the IAEA report states. Under the deal with major powers reached in July, Iran is supposed to reduce the number of centrifuges it has in operation.

Now there is Islamism. How many millions will have to die before Leftists throughout the West wake up to the fact that these folks are not just "misunderstood? Until that future tipping point, Leftists will continue engaging in their never ending culture wars with anyone who dares disagree with them on even the slightest point. When the death tolls do start stacking up, do you think any Leftist will reflect for a moment to look at the blood on their own hands caused by their continual efforts to stop politicians from putting an end to Islamism? Highly doubtful.

Some Germans are asking their fellow citizens to stay away from Oktoberfest, because, umm, refugees:

Germany's leading business daily Handelsblatt ran an article titled "Boycott Oktoberfest"...Technology reporter Britta Weddeling lamented the fact that government was not doing enough and "the refugees [were] not invited [to the event]."

Boycotts are voluntary, of course, but a Dutch Muslim is calling for Oktoberfest to be banned outright:

"Oktoberfest is an Intolerant and Anti-Islamic event. We tried to ignore the event, but there too many Un-Islamic acts done at the Oktoberfest. Such as alcohol consumption, public nudity etc. (...) We also believe that the Oktoberfest might also offend all the Muslim refugees coming from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan. The cancellation of the Oktoberfest event will help refugees not to forget their Islamic history."

A growing number of women and young girls housed in refugee shelters in Germany are being raped, sexually assaulted and even forced into prostitution by male asylum seekers, according to German social work organizations with first-hand knowledge of the situation.

Many of the rapes are occurring in mixed-gender shelters, where, due to a lack of space, German authorities are forcing thousands of male and female migrants to share the same sleeping areas and restroom facilities.

Conditions for women and girls at some shelters are so perilous that females are being described as "wild game" fighting off Muslim male predators. But many victims, fearing reprisals, are keeping silent, social workers say.

Surprise!

Iran has discovered an unexpectedly high reserve of uranium and will soon begin extracting the radioactive element at a new mine, the head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organisation said on Saturday.

The comments cast doubt on previous assessments from some Western analysts who said the country had a low supply and would sooner or later would need to import uranium, the raw material needed for its nuclear program.

Two months ago, an ISIS-inspired nutcase named Seifeddine Rezgui strolled up the beach with a Kalashnikov in his hand and murdered 38 people, most of them tourists from Britain.

The police shot him, of course. There was never going to be any other ending than that one. And before the police arrived, local Tunisians formed a protective human shield around Rezgui's would-be foreign victims. "Kill us! Kill us, not these people!" shouted Mohamed Amine. According to survivor John Yeoman, hotel staff members charged the gunman and said, "We won't let you through. You'll have to go through us."

HALF of Britain's three million Muslims could support the Islamic State terror group, a shocking new survey has revealed.

Islam Through The Looking Glass;

This foreign policy mistake of assuming other peoples think and believe as we do has been continually made by the West for decades. During the Cold War, for example, this error lay in assuming that the Muslim Middle East would be our natural allies against the Soviets, given the Soviets' atheist ideology and Russia's long history of aggression against Muslims. Yet as others have also pointed out, modern Islamism shares many assumptions with Marxism, such as the demonization of imperialism and capitalism. In the sermons of the Ayatollah Khomeini, godfather of the 1979 Iranian Islamic revolution, these Marxist tropes were linked to the West's debauchery, materialism and corruption of Muslim society. This alliance of necessity is still evident today, particularly in Europe, where leftists frequently are apologists for radical Islam.

The most significant event of the period these essays cover was the Iranian revolution, the origins of which continue to be misunderstood today. The standard narrative is that the cruelty and oppression of the Shah's regime drove the Iranian people to overthrow his rule, leaving behind anger and resentment at the U.S. for its neo-imperialist support of its puppet in the region. For example, much is made of the crimes of the Shah's secret police, the Savak.

But as Kelly writes in a book review, the author of a Marxist interpretation of the revolution "might have been outraged less by [the Savak's methods] if he had studied the history of Iran a little more and discovered that the Iranians have a distinct talent for devising bizarre methods of punishment." Indeed, it took the mullahs who succeeded the Shah only a few years to kill more political enemies than the Shah had in thirty-eight. So too today, under the "moderate" president Hassan Rouhani, the regime's enemies continue to be imprisoned, tortured, and assassinated. As Kelly reminds us, it wasn't the cruelty of the Shah, unexceptional in the region even today, that sparked the revolution, but his ostentatious corruption and, most important, his alienation of the clerical class brought on by his liberalizing and secularizing reforms which were seen as threats to Islam.

Kelly traces one cause of this chronic misunderstanding of the Islamic Middle East to the British, whose long involvement in the region fostered "a school-girlish romanticism about the Arabs" that too often led to "mendacity." T.E. Lawrence, of course, is the most famous example of this dangerous delusion, for his championing of the pretensions and ambitions of the Hashemite clan affected in malign ways the shaping of the region after World War I. These days it's not just the British whose judgment is clouded by such idealizations. One hears its accents in the famous speech Barack Obama delivered in Cairo in 2009.

[...]

Most important is the restatement of the radical difference between Islamic states and Western ones, "the awesome gulf that lies between the Muslim order, where the law is the grim law of punishment and vengeance, and the rational and liberal traditions of the West." The failed attempts to bridge this gulf by simply importing Western notions of human rights and political freedom confirm this point. Such projects also reflect an ignorance of the incompatibility of the tribal mentality with the canons of liberal democracy.

The Climate Wars' Damage to Science - "inch by inch, the huge green pressure groups have grown fat on a diet of constant but ever-changing alarm about the future. That these alarms--over population growth, pesticides, rain forests, acid rain, ozone holes, sperm counts, genetically modified crops--have often proved wildly exaggerated does not matter: the organisations that did the most exaggeration trousered the most money. In the case of climate, the alarm is always in the distant future, so can never be debunked.

These huge green multinationals, with budgets in the hundreds of millions of dollars, have now systematically infiltrated science, as well as industry and media, with the result that many high-profile climate scientists and the journalists who cover them have become one-sided cheerleaders for alarm, while a hit squad of increasingly vicious bloggers polices the debate to ensure that anybody who steps out of line is punished. They insist on stamping out all mention of the heresy that climate change might not be lethally dangerous."

... I would argue that we in the West, and indeed most who were not born and raised within the Islamic world, have struggled to meet the test of the second part of that adage. As a veteran of Special Operations and Counter-Terrorism activities against Violent Extremism, this weakness in our comprehension has been a source of constant worry for myself and my colleagues. Too often, it has hindered my own efforts to plan operations, anticipate events, predict outcomes, or evaluate risks. While I would certainly argue that we have achieved some important successes over the years, honesty requires me to acknowledge that I have never been able to achieve all that I had hoped for.

Why? Is it an absence of skill? A lack of coordination or resources? A failure of imagination (as the 9/11 Commission famously reported after the events of 2001)? Those that know me might argue that I am guilty of all of them in some measure. Yet I have watched comrades and colleagues from across the Military, Diplomatic, Civilian, and Intelligence domains, from many different countries, have the same difficulties.

I believe that we do not yet fully comprehend that which we are contesting. And, in the case of the Islamic State (or al-Dawlah al-Islamīyah fī al-ʻIrāq wa-al-Shām; which creates the Arabic Acronym- DA'ISH), we have a Violent Extremist foe that I believe is unlike any other we have contested. Whatever strengths al-Qaeda has been able to demonstrate, in all its various forms from North Africa to Pakistan, in its contest with the International Community, DA'ISH is the most effective, most inspirational, and most powerful manifestation of Violent Extremism we have ever seen.

I recall a time when the destruction of ancient artifacts was really, really big news...

Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militants bulldozed early Saturday the ancient city of Hatra founded 3rd or 2nd BC by the Seleucide Empire, activists and Kurdish media reported.

Spokesman for the 14th branch of the Kurdish Democratic Party (KDP) in Ninveh province Saeed Mumuzini told Rudaw news website that "ISIS militants used buldozzers to destroy Hatra city."

"ISIS stole the ancient gold and silver coins, which were used by the Assyrian kings and were stored in the city," Mumuzini added.

Hatra is located 80 kilometers south of Mosul, and is currently a district in the northern Iraqi city, which was seized in a lightening offensive by ISIS militants in June last year.

That was a time now referred to as "the Bush years".

The inconvenient truth that is overlooked or willfully ignored by apologists for the indefensible is the fact that Wahabism, the cult of mediaeval austerity founded by Ibn Abdul Wahab (1703-1792), has over the last half century been exported to every mosque and school throughout the Muslim world until it completely enveloped mainstream Sunni Islamic teachings.

Wahabism has entirely replaced, and become, Sunni Islam; the two cannot be told apart anymore.

Azhar had a plan when he first arrived at Islamabad's infamous Red Mosque seminary: behave like a visitor and build trust very slowly. By making it "quite clear" he was a BBC journalist, he thinks those at the seminary were "pleased" to have a platform from someone potentially "sympathetic to what they were teaching," he told host Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani on Wednesday.

Soon after, however, Azhar realized that instead of teaching a "softer" type of Islam which is traditional in Pakistan, the Red Mosque was teaching Wahhabi Islam, a much more socially conservative type of Islam from Saudi Arabia.

In my hometown mosque, I had disobeyed the rules and prayed in the men's area, about 20 feet behind the men gathered for Ramadan prayers.

Abdullah was a reticent monarch, with none of the flamboyant outreach of his predecessor, King Fahd. But within the kingdom, he was deeply respected. He was seen by many Saudi women as their secret champion in a society that rigidly suppresses the rights of women. He was also seen as a modest and pious man who lived by Muslim ideals better than many of his predecessors. He didn't reform Saudi Arabia, but he was able to maintain a measure of stability.

The nightmare for moderate Saudis is that the extremists of the Islamic State have a significant following among young Saudis, say analysts who follow the Arabic Twitter and Facebook platforms. Young Saudis are among the world's most active users of these social media, which indicates the pent-up desire in the kingdom for political and social involvement. Attempts to suppress this activism, in the uncertainty of the leadership transition, could be very dangerous.

More - The monarch, believed to be 90, was succeeded by his brother, Crown Prince Salman, according to state television. That put the region's most important Sunni power and America's closest Arab ally in the hands of a 79-year-old who is reportedly in poor health and suffering from dementia.

Marine Le Pen;

"To misname things is to add to the world's unhappiness." Whether or not Albert Camus really did utter these words, they are an astonishingly apt description of the situation in which the French government now finds itself. Indeed, the French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius no longer even dares pronounce the real name of things.

Mr. Fabius will not describe as "Islamists" the terrorists who on Wednesday, Jan. 7, walked into the offices of the newspaper Charlie Hebdo, right in the heart of Paris. Nor will he use "Islamic State" to describe the radical Sunni group that now controls territory in Syria and Iraq. No reference can be made to "Islamic fundamentalism," for fear that Islam and Islamism might get conflated. The terms "Daesh" and "Daesh cutthroats" are to be favored instead, even though in Arabic "Daesh" means the very thing to be hidden: "Islamic State."

Let us call things by their rightful names, since the French government seems reluctant to do so. France, land of human rights and freedoms, was attacked on its own soil by a totalitarian ideology: Islamic fundamentalism. It is only by refusing to be in denial, by looking the enemy in the eye, that one can avoid conflating issues. Muslims themselves need to hear this message. They need the distinction between Islamist terrorism and their faith to be made clearly.

No, I don't have to "respect" your belief: "On one side of the gender divided protest..."

One common trait amongst Religious Cults is that dissent is not tolerated. Dare to disagree with the prevailing narrative and you're kicked out of the cult ... or worse. Such has also been the case for several decades with the Cult of Leftism. Though they changed their public moniker to "Progressives", their core tenets and modus-operandi have not changed, and arguably have gotten much worse. When it came to acts of terrorism from Muslim extremists, a constant horde of "Progressive" talking heads could be readily found to regurgitate the same PC pablum:

  • Islam is a Religion of Peace
  • Not all Muslims are terrorists
  • Anyone who dares to criticize Muslims or their religion is an Islamophobe = Racist + Bigot
Different violent event. More innocent people killed or maimed. Same repetitive talking points to not criticize the perpetrators, their motives, or their religion.

What has not been quite as clear to non-Muslim Westerners is what has been going on within the Muslim community. I a recent Washington Post article, journalist Asra Nomani shed a little light on the subject:

Alongside the honor brigade's official channel, a community of self-styled blasphemy police -- from anonymous blogs such as LoonWatch.com and Ikhras.com to a large and disparate cast of social-media activists -- arose and began trying to control the debate on Islam. This wider corps throws the label of "Islamophobe" on pundits, journalists and others who dare to talk about extremist ideology in the religion. Their targets are as large as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and as small as me.

The official and unofficial channels work in tandem, harassing, threatening and battling introspective Muslims and non-Muslims everywhere. They bank on an important truth: Islam, as practiced from Malaysia to Morocco, is a shame-based, patriarchal culture that values honor and face-saving from the family to the public square. Which is why the bullying often works to silence critics of Islamic extremism.

Brave woman for speaking out. It's beyond reprehensible that her non-Muslim sisters of a Leftist bent continue to sabotage her with their inane ramblings. But they've consistently shown that they don't care one whit about "those" brown-skinned women. Sad.

Recent events in France have finally put the nail in the coffin of the philosophical world view of anyone describing themselves as a "progressive" or a "liberal". In this conversation (podcast) with Charles Adler, the CATO Institute's Patrick Basham succinctly dissects the phoniness and all encompassing falsehoods that define Leftism in 2015. Here's one, of many, brilliant things that Basham said (paraphrasing):

In today's political climate throughout much of the West, the reaction to what one says is determined, not by the content of one's words and the substance and significance of what one has to say, but rather by the colour of the skin or the religion that's practiced by the person speaking those words.

What they're talking about was the recent TV interview of Rotterdam mayor, Ahmed Aboutaleb, which you can watch here.

Roger Kimball;

We were told that the 9/11 terrorists, though Muslim, did not speak for Islam. OK, maybe they didn't. But how about the London subway bombers? They claimed to be murdering people in the name of Allah or Mohammed. But maybe they were wrong. Maybe they read the wrong parts of the Koran or Hadith, or interpreted those eyebrow-raising passages too literally or something. Maybe.

Yet here's my puzzlement. Let's agree, for the sake of the discussion, that the 9/11 bombers did not speak for Islam. Ditto the London murders. Indeed, let's say that neither the Boston marathon bombers nor the people who murdered a total of 16 people in Paris last week (the 12 at Charlie Hebdo and four at the kosher market), let's say that they did not speak for Islam either. Like Major Hasan, who murdered 13 people at Ft Hood in 2009 while shouting "Allahu Akbar," they were just "lone extremists" who carry out murder and mayhem while shouting "Allahu Akbar." But that has nothing to do with Islam. OK. Got it.

But here's my question: Who does speak for Islam? We are assured that it's not the group that now calls itself Islamic State, but which, following Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott, I am considering calling Daesh, a name they apparently dislike. Anyway, we know that they don't speak for Islam because our political leaders and our media have told us so. It's the same with Boko Haram, the Nigerian Muslim group. This morning, quoting the Australian journalist Andrew Bolt, I noted that they had kidnapped and sold into sex slavery 300 Nigerian school girls. That was before I saw the story that Boko Haram had just invaded another town killing as many as 2000. Boko Haram appears to believe that they represent Islamic teaching, but no: our leaders have assured us that that is not the case. Ditto about Syria: this summer an adulteress or two were stoned to death, but that, of course, was the work not of Islam but of "extremists," if not quite "lone extremists."

So who, according to the establishment gospel, does speak for Islam? The Ayatollah Khomeni was the spiritual leader of Iran, a great Shia Muslim country. Did he speak for Islam? He didn't like a novel by Salman Rushdie and told his followers to kill him for insulting Islam. Did the ayatollah speak for Islam?

He had been galvanised into militancy as a young man by an American occupation that he and many like him believed was trying to impose a power shift in Iraq, favouring the country's larger Shia population at the expense of the dominant Sunnis. His early role in what would become Isis led naturally to the senior position he now occupies within a revitalised insurgency that has spilled across the border into Syria. Most of his colleagues regard the crumbling order in the region as a fulfilment of their ambitions in Iraq - which had remained unfinished business, until the war in Syria gave them a new arena.

An interesting article, nonetheless. (h/t Frank)

Do you believe that it's easy for me to accept the fact that a 16-year-old girl fearlessly took a stand against the biggest threat facing this country while men like me were busy being apologetic on the behalf of the "freedom fighters"?

Do you honestly believe that it's easy for me to accept that a young girl from our neck of the woods, with all the societal handicaps that one can think of, can singlehandedly orchestrate a global rude awakening? The thought rips the bigoted, discriminatory and misogynistic ideals that I've grown up with, into tiny little shreds.

How can I accept Malala to be a hero, when her speeches do not have any Islamic or nationalistic agenda? How can I consider her to be my future leader when nothing she says or does imbues a false sense of superiority in me as a Muslim or a Pakistani? How can I accept that a young girl was able to highlight who our actual enemies are, when grown up men in our parliaments are still hell bent on befriending them?

As Melanie Phillips in a recent talk pointed out, recycling a friend's analogy, there is a tunneling factor at work on the model of Hamas. The tunnels stretch under the soil of another country and, suddenly, the terrorists "pop up," seemingly out of nowhere. Phillips is scrupulous to clarify that she is not alluding to Muslim immigration as an overt military scheme carried out by bloodthirsty extremists, but the metaphor of Islam tunneling its way surreptitiously into and under the cultural terrain of Western civilization holds. In the words of Swiss parliamentarian Oskar Freysinger, Islam is "a dogma that is gnawing away at the pillars of our system of laws" -- laws, we might add, both written and unspoken.

Let's cut the whole head off.

Australian police detained 15 people and raided more than a dozen properties across Sydney in the country's largest counterterrorism operation, saying intelligence indicated an attack was being planned on Australian soil.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott said he had been briefed on Wednesday night about the operation that was prompted by information that an Islamic State movement leader in the Middle East was calling on Australian supporters to kill.

Abbott was asked about reports that the people detained were planning to publicly behead a random person in Sydney.

"That's the intelligence we received," he told reporters. "The exhortations -- quite direct exhortations -- were coming from an Australian who is apparently quite senior in ISIL to networks of support back in Australia to conduct demonstration killings here in this country."

All things considered, ridding the world of the Knights Templar may have been premature, yes?

Obama has come under fire for underestimating the threat of this "jayvee team" wreaking havoc across the Middle East and threatening the western way of life, and yet he continuously refers to them as ISIL.

Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird is in hot water with the moral equivalency crowd. Some of the comments on the article provide a glimpse into how confused Modern Leftism has become, equating Hamas to Israel, America, Canada, etc.:

"Terrorist" is just a modern propaganda term for "resistance fighter" or "patriot". Had the term been invented in the 18th century, the leaders of the French Revolution and the Boston Tea Party would have been labeled "terrorists".

So says someone living on stolen First Nation land. From European ranks come a long line of thieves and killers of indigenous peoples.

Baird has no idea what Canadians think, feel or want their government to do. Him and Harper speaking for very few Canadians when it comes to the mess in the Middle East and his gratuitous "We mourn the loss in Gaza" but we fully support it is unbelievably insensitive and unqualified. Canada we have a rogue government, a government that came to power under the in and out scandal and should never have been allowed to remain the government of this country once they admitted to cheating in the 2006 elections. They need to be gone and the sooner the better. They have no clue of how to make things better but they have no problem with making them worse wherever they are.

Mr Baird's comments are completely detached from reality and from the values shared by every single person I know. On my Twitter, I am sick of seeing bodies of Gazan families, especially the dead kids. Cheering on Israel's ongoing massacre of an all-but-defenseless peoples is truly disgusting.

Yesterday the pro-Palestinian protesters in Calgary held another protest in front of the new City Hall. The "mainstream media" reported that the protesters apologized for the beating of the pro-Israelite protesters that occurred on July 18th.

What they did not want you to know is that after this so called apology yesterday, some of the pro-Palestinian protesters came again to the church uttering threats and declaring that they will kill us all. Because the church had, like always, for the past 8 years an Israeli flag with them. Some of the "terrorists" wear masks covering their faces and with their hands and with their fingers close to their throats were showing to all of us how they are going to cut our throats.

They were screaming at us: F*ck the Jews, f*ck Jesus, f*ck christians etc.

So much for the apology.

When The Times of Israel's Avi Issacharoff first reported the content of John Kerry's ceasefire proposal on Friday afternoon, I wondered if something had gotten lost in translation. It seemed inconceivable that the American secretary of state would have drafted an initiative that, as a priority, did not require the dismantling of Hamas's rocket arsenal and network of tunnels dug under the Israeli border. Yet the reported text did not address these issues at all, nor call for the demilitarization of Gaza.

Arab political culture, to take one example--despite some liberal voices, despite noble dissidents--tends to favor ascendancy through aggression, the politics of the "strong horse," and the application of "Hama rules"-- which all combine to produce a Middle East caught between prison and anarchy, between Sisi's Egypt and al-Assad's Syria. Our inability, however well-meaning, to discuss the role of honor-shame dynamics in the making of this political culture poses a dilemma: By keeping silent, we not only operate in denial, but we may actually strengthen these brutal values and weaken the very ones we treasure.

It's a good piece. (h/t Anthony )

The "Arab Spring" began in Tunisia in 2010, and raced through Egypt, Bahrain, Yemen, Libya, Syria, Somalia, Sudan, Nigeria, and other countries with large or predominantly Muslim populations whether Arab or not. The movement was later renamed the "Arab Awakening," but changing the name didn't change its Sunni Islamic character.

The common thread throughout these rolling revolutions that cut such a broad swath of the Muslim world was the dramatic shift from largely secular autocracies to Islamist-dominated governments. Uprisings that began naïvely as movements to promote democratic government, devolved into bloody and chaotic wars, spanning the region from West Africa to Malaysia. In many cases they installed new Islamist leaders governing under strict Shari'ah law.

Deeply imbedded and often covert in these conflicts is Shi'ah Iran and its proxies such as Hezbollah, hell-bent to generate chaos; presumably the chaos Shi'ah Muslims believe will precede the coming of the 12th Imam. The "Draw Mohammed Day," marked on May 20, was started as a demonstration in defense of free speech, inspired by the so-called Danish cartoons, which depicted the founder of Islam. Needless to say, that didn't work well - the usual Muslims response when their religion is discussed in an unflattering way is threats and more threats. Because of the Muslim death threats, Molly Norris, who started the event, had to go into hiding and change her name. She disappeared completely and nobody knows whether she is dead or alive.

When will the West wake up"

Since the kidnapping of 276 schoolgirls in Nigeria last month, the meaning of Boko Haram--the name used by the terrorist group that seized the girls--has become more widely known. The translation from the Hausa language is usually given in English-language media as "Western Education Is Forbidden," though "Non-Muslim Teaching Is Forbidden" might be more accurate.

But little attention has been paid to the group's formal Arabic name: Jam'at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-da'wa wal-Jihad. That roughly translates as "The Fellowship of the People of the Tradition for Preaching and Holy War." That's a lot less catchy than Boko Haram but significantly more revealing about the group and its mission. Far from being an aberration among Islamist terror groups, as some observers suggest, Boko Haram in its goals and methods is in fact all too representative.

[...]

Organizations like Boko Haram do not arise in isolation. The men who establish Islamist groups, whether in Africa (Nigeria, Somalia, Mali), Southeast Asia (Afghanistan, Pakistan), or even Europe (U.K., Spain and the Netherlands), are members of long-established Muslim communities, most of whose members are happy to lead peaceful lives. To understand why the jihadists are flourishing, you need to understand the dynamics within those communities.

Since al Qaeda's vision is fundamentally about transforming other Muslims and Islam, much of the group's identity is based on seeing themselves as people who are renewing the religion. How precisely they would act to transform the religion led to two separate views of their role: before 9/11, the leadership of the group talked about themselves as a vanguard, as a group that was going to charge ahead and others would follow. They would show other Muslims what Islam should be and the community would imitate them. But since 9/11, the leadership of al Qaeda has changed the way they talk about themselves. Al Qaeda's assumptions about the current war are also quite telling. The organization believes that this is an existential fight, not a limited conflict or a war of choice. They believe the war is about the very existence of Islam and they have made strenuous efforts to convince ordinary Muslims that the U.S. is waging a war on Islam. In this total war there can be no bystanders--"you are either with us or against us"--and any means are justified. This view of the war can be contrasted with the opinion of our government that this is indeed a limited conflict: one where we have the choice to engage or to disengage; to stay in Afghanistan or to withdraw and end that war; to arm rebels in Syria or to refrain from doing so; and choosing to withdraw will not harm our national security.

It's long, so grab a coffee.

American Thinker;

Although the religious component of the 2011 census in India has yet to be released, it is believed that the Hindu population has dropped below 80% for the first time since independence in 1947. The official word is that the data on religion is being withheld so as not to influence the upcoming elections this year. Apparently, political leaders worry that the information will skew election results as Hindus become increasingly alarmed about Muslim population growth and cast their votes for the political party that opposes illegal immigration. Their concerns are not misplaced, as areas with marked Muslim population increases have seen higher rates of violent crime.

In a push to appease the growing Muslim population and garner votes, the Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence Bill was created and has been promoted. The legislation is built on the erroneous assumption that majorities violently target minorities. The bill has been characterized as discriminatory, biased, and unconstitutional by Hindu leaders because it targets the Hindu majority, presumes guilt even from anonymous complaints, and is designed solely to aid prosecutions brought by minority populations. Hindu leaders are rightly concerned that if this bill becomes law, only Hindus will be prosecuted and convicted of violent acts and the incitement of hate crimes.

The world's largest halal food certification company is the Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of America (IFANCA), based in Park Ridge, Illinois, an affluent suburb of Chicago. IFANCA's symbol, a crescent alongside an "M," can be found on different baby formulas, including ones made by leading brands Similac and Gerber, their Crescent-M dwarfing the O-U kosher hechsher sitting next to it.

Those seeking kosher food - even those seeking halal food - or anyone else who uses these baby food products may be shocked to find out that IFANCA is linked to international terrorism and bigotry.

IFANCA is working with the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) to create a national halal standards and accreditation body. In 2007 and 2008, ISNA, which was co-founded by Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) leader Sami al-Arian, was named by the United Sates Justice Department as a co-conspirator in the financing of millions of dollars to Hamas. Just this past September, the Canadian government stripped ISNA of its tax status in Canada for the financing of a Pakistani terrorist group.

IFANCA is an active member of the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago (CIOGC). Other members include: the Mosque Foundation (MF), which has held fundraisers for individuals and groups associated with PIJ and Hamas; Islamic Relief (IR), which has been associated with al-Qaeda financing and that was named by the Israeli government a front for Hamas; Helping Hand (HH), which partnered with a Pakistani charity at the same time that charity delivered close to $100,000 to the residence of the head of Hamas, Khaled Meshaal; and the Muslim American Society (MAS), which has used the internet to propagate materials degrading women, cursing Christians, and calling for the murder of Jews and homosexuals.

IFANCA's terror and hate-related affiliations are understandable, given the individuals who are in charge of the organization.

Muhammad Munir Chaudry is a Founding Board Member and President of IFANCA. He is listed, along with a photo, on the "Speaker" page of ISNA. Sharing the page with him are fellow ISNA speakers: Esam Omeish, who resigned from the Virginia Commission on Immigration, after videos surfaced depicting him calling for violent jihad; Nihad Awad, National Executive Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a reported front for Hamas; Siraj Wahhaj, who was named a party to the 1993 World Trade Center bombing; and Zulfiqar Ali Shah, the former South Asia Division Coordinator for KindHearts, a charity whose funds were frozen by the U.S. Treasury Department in February 2006 for its alleged role as a Hamas financier.

Today on John Gormley's show, I heard that the University of Regina is adding foot baths to their washrooms and having a Muslim prayer room to "accommodate" their 800 Muslim students.

Via a grapevine, though it isn't a secret apparently, a Muslim company has just won the contract to provide housekeeping and dietary services to Saskatoon District Health. The current 450 people so employed with the previous company lose their jobs and may apply to the new company.

The District will also add prayer rooms.

Rumour has it that there will be a mosque membership subsidy of $10.00/hr for the Muslim workers. If that is true, it would indicate the kind of Middle-East oil wealth buying influence as it has in Europe and Britain.

From following the goings on in Europe and Britain, my first question is how long before pork is no longer offered on the menus prepared by this group?

If they deliver home care services, what about going into homes that have pet dogs? I'm not sure what the contract covers in full.

Or maybe, for a time they'll have some kuffar workers who'll do that.

I could see how this would facilitate a claim of needing to import "workers" from abroad to fill some of the positions. a way around the new federal guidelines.

The M.B. may have a major setback in Egypt but their going like gangbusters here.

I thought things would be quiet until their new mosque is completed and they took over the new neighbourhood surrounding it. Evidently, I was mistaken.

As you may be aware there are two large mosques planned for Saskatoon. One is the Amahdi, who are peaceable, modern to some degree, and persecuted badly in the M.E. and Pakistan. The others hide behind them to deflect away from discussion about issues.

The other mosque is, I believe a M.B. affiliate. I noticed their web page is scrubbed very clean, hard to tell, but they do mandate that grade 7-8 girls wear the Saudi abaya. To me that is a give away clue.

Canada may be 10-15 yrs. behind Europe and the U.K. but we're catching up fast.

Since the present government in Regina seems complacent in allowing aboriginal children to taken over by totally some incompetent tribal run Child Services, (Amnesty International could do a press release on the torture of that recent case), so I doubt they'll deal with this issue in Education or Health or anywhere controlled by the politically correct bureaucracy.

If they won't safeguard aboriginal children's lives and health due to the risk of being called "racist", I doubt if there is much they would stand up for.

An interview with Canadian security expert David B. Harris;

Gordon: Why do you refer to Canada as Islamism's "happy hunting ground"?

Harris: The Islamists have been highly active in infiltrating and penetrating a variety of institutions within Canada, ranging from government and the private sector, through academe and certain police elements, not excluding the Royal Canadian Mounted Police "outreach" function. In recent days, FOX News and other news sources have reported that, through its Embassy in Canada, Iran may be attempting to recruit Iranian Canadians for the purposes of infiltrating government, and terrorism and subversion, some of it targeting the United States. These are disturbing and arresting developments in themselves, but especially striking to those of us who traditionally have been brought up to view Canada as, as the old expression has it, "the peaceable kingdom".

Gordon: Has Canada's peaceable kingdom, its governing structure and multiculturalism given rise to this predicament?

Harris: I think it has to be conceded even by those who have been among the greatest enthusiasts of multiculturalism - and here I refer to the statist multiculturalist phenomenon as understood in Canada - that multiculturalism has been a serious problem and promises to become an even greater one. In Canada, the state, which is to say, the Federal, Provincial and Municipal governments, has been inclined to involve itself, through funding and various other forms of support, in multiculturalist policies and a variety of related initiatives. These, taken together, seem to reinforce the separateness of any number of groups, including most notably those that might be inclined to self-isolate within the larger Canadian community. If we are dealing with certain sorts of radical groups, and the Islamists most emphatically count significantly among these, we find that radical tendencies within these streams will be inclined to be reinforced, rather than to diminish, over time. When one takes into further account the virtually unprecedented and unparalleled nature of immigration in Canada and Canadian immigration policy and approaches, one can see a combination that promises to be all the more difficult in the future for Canada and allies intimately involved with Canada.

Behind the scenes at a Muslim Brotherhood fauxtoshoot

The latest target of Islamist mobs in Egypt includes Christian nuns. The comments from "Progressives" on the Huffington Post is very telling.

Michael Totten;

Roughly 10 percent of Lebanon's population is Druze, with the rest divided evenly among Christians, Sunni Muslims, and Shiite Muslims. The Christians have historical ties to the West dating back to the Crusades; the Sunnis are backed by much of the Arab world (which, outside Iraq, is overwhelmingly Sunni); the Shiites' patron is Iran, one of only a handful of Shiite-majority countries in the world. Lebanon's three main communities agreed long ago that the best way to prevent one group from lording it over the others was to have a weak central government and share power. But a country that was small, divided by nature, and weak by design was easy prey for its totalitarian neighbor.

The Truth About Egypt;

I recently interviewed Eric Trager, a scholar at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. He's a real expert on Egypt and has been more consistently right than just about anyone. He called out the Muslim Brotherhood as an inherently authoritarian organization while scores of other supposed "experts" falsely pimped it as moderate. And contrary to claims from the opposing camp, that the army "restored" democracy with its coup, he saw the recent bloody unpleasantness coming well in advance.

I spoke to him before this week's massacre happened, but it's clear from his remarks that he suspected something like it was coming.

When somebody tries to rob a bank the police get in, they don't negotiate and we have been negotiating with them for 65 years. We say get out or you are dead. We give them two minutes and then we start shooting and that's the only way they'll understand."

I therefore formally renounce my oath of office ... this includes my oath of U.S. citizenship."

Getting the Muslim Brotherhood wrong;

Genuine political liberals are thin on the ground in Egypt, but they do exist. I know several. Some are my friends. Most of them were wrong about the Brotherhood, too. They were right, of course, when they warned the rest of us that the Brothers would transform Egypt into a theocratic dictatorship, but they were wrong when they estimated how much support the Brotherhood had. Hardly any expected the Islamists to win most of the votes, though that's exactly what happened.

American liberals made a different mistake. Despite warnings from secular Egyptians and former Islamists, the idea that the Muslim Brotherhood is a moderate and democratic party became an article of faith here in the States, particularly among academics and journalists who should have known better. Even James Clapper--who, as the Director of National Intelligence, really should have known better--said the Muslim Brotherhood is "a largely secular organization." Surely that ranks among the dumbest things ever said about the organization in all of its 85 years.

The desire to turn Hagia Sophia into a mosque is not about Muslims wanting a place to pray -- as of 2010, there were 3,000 active mosques in Istanbul alone. Since the civil war began two years ago, Assad's complete dependence on Iran and Hezbollah - as well as on Russia - has been exposed for all to see. There is little doubt that whatever checks the US was able to exert against him before the civil war began no longer exist. And if he survives in power, he will be completely indifferent to US pressure and so will behave far more violently than he did before the war began.

And yet for all Assad's horrific behavior and the reasonable presumption that his actions will only become more violent and dangerous with each additional day he remains in power, the most telling aspect of the Syrian civil war is that Israel, the US and Europe are incapable of deciding whether he is better or worse than the alternatives.

I've seen Obama stand before the United Nations after the jihad-crazed slaughter of four Americans in Benghazi, including our ambassador, and proclaim "The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam."

So much for America's right of free speech! And freedom of religion! Can you find anything in that bizarre sentence with which the Boston bombers would disagree? No wonder Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was an Obama supporter.

I've seen Obama's minions arrest and jail an obscure California film-maker for creating a YouTube video that criticizes Mohammed. Incredibly, I then witnessed Secretary of State Hillary Clinton attempt to blame the hapless guy for inciting the Benghazi slaughter. How about arresting Obama's pal George Clooney for bad acting? That would make more sense.

Bill O'Reilly gets to the heart of the matter of why there's no end in sight for terrorism in the world today:

This unwillingness to publicly admit the truth about the root cause of most of the world's current terrorism is the norm amongst:

  • Muslims

  • Leftists

  • Academics

  • The Media Party

  • Politicians

  • Police Forces

  • Folks in Hollywood

  • Anyone who doesn't want to sideline their career/reputation

But until the problem can be openly discussed, how can it ever be solved?

There are some interesting developments in the judicial proceedings against the two alleged terrorists:

A man accused of plotting with al-Qaida members in Iran to derail a train in Canada gave a rambling statement in a Toronto court Wednesday and appeared to be saying he does not recognize its jurisdiction.

"My comment is the following because all of those conclusions were taken out based on criminal code and all of us know that this criminal code is not a holy book," Esseghaier said at the hearing Wednesday. "We cannot rely on the conclusions taken out from these judgments."

In related news, Justin Trudeau has released a new advertisement in which he states, "I'm going to work hard to earn your trust." That's an interesting statement considering that a review of his Twitter account still has only this to say about the recent terrorism plot. That's a rather peculiar way for the Shiny Pony to gain the trust of Canadians who are legitimately concerned about harm coming to themselves and their families. Perhaps if he become PM, our nation's security services will be handed over to the unemployed folks of "Occupy" and all threats to Canada will be warded off by this nightly ritual.

Update: Why was Raed Jaser still here? (podcast discussion on the same)

Canadian Raheel Raza and American Zuhdi Jasser are thoughtful, intelligent, and fearless voices in the Muslim communities of North America. But sadly, they are in the minority. Instead, what is heard much more often are Muslim apologists who have engaged in a marriage of convenience with the Media Party, Academia, and Leftist politicians. Together this trio controls the narrative that the majority of citizens imbibe. As the video herein illustrates, this narrative has infected the highest ranks of Canada's police forces. One can well imagine that any law enforcement official who deviates from the current narrative would have their career aspirations ended in less than 24 hours.

Islamic hard-liners stormed a mosque in suburban Cairo, turning it into torture chamber for Christians who had been demonstrating against the ruling Muslim Brotherhood in the latest case of violent persecution that experts fear will only get worse.

Such stories have become increasingly common as tensions between Egypt's Muslims and Copts mount, but in the latest case, mosque officials corroborated much of the account and even filed a police report. Demonstrators, some of whom were Muslim, say they were taken from the Muslim Brotherhood headquarters in suburban Cairo to a nearby mosque on Friday and tortured for hours by hard-line militia members.

Via Pam Geller: Obama creates a terrorist haven in Mali

This catastrophe did not "just happen." It is the direct result of an episode that may at first seem unrelated: the US-led intervention in Libya last year. Rarely in recent times has there been a more vivid example of how such interventions can produce devastating unexpected results.

Under the regime of MoammarKhadafy, who was killed during the Libyan war, a portion of the army was made up of Tuaregs. They are a nomadic people whose traditional homeland is centered in northern Mali. After Khadafy was deposed, they went home -- armed with potent weaponry they brought from Libya. Seeking to press their case for a homeland in Mali, they quickly overran the lightly armed Malian army.

Into this upheaval stepped another group, shaped not by ethnicity but by devotion to an extreme form of Islam. It has attracted Al Qaeda militants from many countries, including Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, and Algeria. They seek to create a pure Muslim state -- and are destroying mosques and Islamic monuments that they believe represent the wrong kind of Islam.

This is an emerging crisis that could engage the world for years. A vast region has fallen out of the control of central government and into the hands of violent radicals. They may cause far more death and suffering than Khadafy ever did.

While researching my book, yesterday I came across a fascinating FBI report from 1970 that was declassified under the Freedom of Information Act in 2009. Titled, "FBI Monograph: Fedayeen Impact - Middle East and United States, June 1970," it is focused on the PLO, and Fatah's penetration of the American political Left.

As the report puts it, "Since the June 1967, war, reports emanating from various sources have suggested that the Arabs have co-opted black extremists in the United States to assist the 'struggle' against Israel in the Middle East and in the United States."

In the section on PLO operations in the US, The monograph discussed its outreach to the African American political leadership and the radical white establishment. These sections of the report are fascinating and I recommend you take an hour or so to read the entire document yourself.

The Soviet Union openly sided with the Arabs in the Six Day War and cut off relations with Israel immediately following the war. The radical American Left, populated by the Communist Party USA and other Communist front groups and New Left groups abandoned Israel at the same time. This mass abandonment included the Progressive Labor Party; Students for a Democratic Society, (SDS); SDS-Weathermen; the Socialist Workers Party; Workers World Party; and the Communist Party - USA, (CPUSA).

Since President Obama's political world is populated by individuals from all these groups, and since Obama launched his political career in the living room of SDS-Weathermen terror commanders Bernadine Dohrn and Bill Ayers, it is worth noting that in the SDS-Weathermen magazine "SDS Fire" December 6, 1969 issue, contained an editorial stating that "Arab peoples, above all the Palestinian people, will not and cannot accept the existence of Israel, a colonial-type creature imposed by outside forces on the area."

With a Jew-hating theocracy to vote for;

There are a lot of illusions out there about how the exercise of power will moderate the Muslim Brotherhood and similar groups. To some degree, Morsi's record in office shows a pragmatic willingness to maintain a treaty he deeply loathes with the "sons of apes and pigs." But we would do better to think of this as caution rather than moderation. If a real opportunity presented itself to destroy the Jewish state, there can be little doubt that Morsi and the members of his movement would think it their duty to act.

"United States forces provided limited technical support to the French forces in that operation, but took no direct part in the assault on the compound where it was believed the French citizen was being held hostage," Obama wrote.

Almost two years after Egyptian strongman Hosni Mubarak was removed from power, Cairo’s Tahrir Square is still an epicenter of protest and violence. It’s an epicenter of protest and violence because Egypt is again ruled by a man who has declared himself dictator. The country’s new president, Mohammad Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party, announced that “constitutional declarations, decisions and laws issued by the president are final and not subject to appeal.”

He’s already being called the new Pharaoh. It makes no difference that he was elected. Democracy isn’t just about getting elected. A democratic election is not a one-time plebiscite on who the next tyrant is going to be. Democracy requires individual and minority rights and the separation of powers. Winners cannot oppress losers, nor do losers get to wage war on the winners.

On the other hand, the pharaohs were able to get Egyptians to show up for work, which is more than any modern government has managed to do.

For much of the past decade, the earnest and the animated have been adorning the walls of church basements and student union buildings across Canada with Israeli Apartheid banners and Hands Off Iran posters. Meanwhile, after the Khomeinist regime in Tehran crushed an insurrection in 2009, a Tunisian fruit vendor set himself on fire in January 2011 and then Tahrir Square erupted in Cairo in the following weeks. Suddenly, Arab liberals, feminists, students, reformists and revolutionaries were at the vanguard of tumults from the Barbary Coast to Bahrain. They were on their own.

In Gaza, they were bullied and beaten by the same Hamas thugs who take only slightly less delight when they notice yet another ship on the horizon carrying Torontonians or Berliners or Parisians intent on making exhibitionist nuisances of themselves with the IDF. As of this week, the death tally in the Syrian abattoir run by Hamas benefactor Bashar Assad is roughly 30,000 (was there a teach-in that I missed?). Nobody even talks about Darfur anymore. Then again, hardly anyone wanted to talk about it while the genocide there was in full force.

We are now paying for the stupidity of removing the nasty, desert drag queen who had long ago ceased being a threat to America and, in fact, was an ally (I have personal knowledge of this) in tracking down Al Qaeda terrorists. It was likewise an even bigger mistake, one on the scale of Carter and the Shah, to help push President Mubarak out of power, welcome the Muslim Brotherhood, and pressure the Egyptian military into accepting the MB. We can see the results on our TV sets, in the idiotic behavior of our diplomats in Cairo (and I know a lot of them, including the Ambassador)--and in the media's never-ending quest to protect Obama and his foolishness, and give him a pass.

The reason we see deranged or at least nasty and unpleasant dictators in the Arab world is that Arab societies are deranged, nasty and unpleasant--thanks largely to the brand of Islam practiced in those societies which is particularly deranged, nasty, and unpleasant. In the Arab world you can have a brutal authoritarian who tries to restrain the even more brutal religious fanatics, or you can have religious fanatics who lash out at anyone who does not see the world as they do.

An Arab couple has been charged after allegedly trying to smuggle their five-month-old child into the United Arab Emirates by putting the baby boy into their carry-on luggage.

A few days before he was forced to step down in February last year, [Hosni Mubarak] warned that sudden, dramatic change in the land of the pharaohs would lead only to anarchy, followed by a takeover by the fundamentalist Muslim Brotherhood party and the imposition of strict Islamic law.

Al-Qaida-linked Mali Islamists armed with guns and pick-axes continued to destroy ancient mausoleums in the famed city of Timbuktu on Sunday, the second day of attacks on the UNESCO heritage sites, witnesses said.

I’m not even sure why the rabbi agreed to be interviewed. He answered almost all of our questions this way, as did his assistant. They answered as though the entire Arab world would judge them for what they said and pounce if they uttered a peep of complaint. They reminded me of citizens of police states who are asked on the record what they think of the government.

...at this point, liberals, the business establishment, and the Copts now understand how politically weak they really are. Given a choice between Islamist rule and the old Egypt minus Mubarak, they will likely opt for the army and the old system.
