The federal government announced Tuesday that it “was in the process of finalizing an agreement” with the Montreal-based protective equipment manufacturer Medicom to start N95 and surgical mask production in Canada.
 
But the proposed Medicom manufacturing site won’t be up and running for months. According to the company, neither the location nor the number of facilities that will be producing masks has been decided. It is aiming to start production in early summer.
 
Trudeau is desperately trying to source N95 masks from other countries, who are struggling with their own needs.

The federal government is shutting the doors to all of its 317 Service Canada Centres – where people can apply in person for employment insurance, Old Age Security, pension benefits and passports – on Friday after employees en masse refused to work.
 
The government bent to pressure Thursday evening from the Canadian Employment and Immigration Union, which represents 17,000 Service Canada employees, including 3,360 who staff the centres.
 
Many had called in sick or refused to work because they didn’t feel safe during the coronavirus pandemic, despite safe distancing measures put in place that kept the centres open, said Crystal Warner, executive vice-president with the union.

This provides access to every medical procedure available under the Canada Health Act, as well as full dental coverage and tax-payer funded prescription drugs, according to a medical assistant who is blowing the whistle on these exorbitant freebees.
 
The medical assistant, who spoke to the Sun on condition of anonymity and provided supporting documentation to back these claims, works at a medical clinic in York Region that takes patients covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). This one office in a town north of Toronto sees 30 to 40 migrants with 20-year permits each week, said the source.
 
According to the whistleblower, migrants walk into the clinic and provide a government-issued identification number. When the number is inputted into the OHIP computer system, it shows what services the person is qualified to receive.

The Thousand Islands Bridge Authority says traffic restrictions to Canada are in effect due to protesters on the Canadian span of the bridge crossing.
 
In a message on Twitter, Ontario Provincial Police announced Highway 137 is closed in the Lansdowne area, including access from Highway 401 eastbound and westbound and access to the United States.

Businesses and homes across Atlantic Canada are days away from running out of propane as a result of anti-pipeline protests that have cut off rail links across Canada.
 
Ian Wilson, president of Halifax-based Wilson Fuel, said his company is rationing propane by partially filling customers’ tanks.
 
“If we just filled everybody’s tank on delivery, we’d be looking at outages today,” he said in an interview Friday.

Question: If you’re stuck in traffic during an illegal protest, will police still ticket you for sending a text?

With that question asked and answered, I believe it’s time for our own blockade. No more voluntary fine payments: take every parking ticket, every traffic violation, every petty bylaw infraction to court until the police, politicians, and judiciary in this country agree to return to work.

The Golden Globes announced Thursday that the menu for attendees at this year’s awards show will not include meat.
 
In a statement to The Associated Press, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), which hosts the Globes, said that the decision was made to draw attention to the connection between Americans’ diets and climate change.
 
“If there’s a way we can, not change the world, but save the planet, maybe we can get the Golden Globes to send a signal and draw attention to the issue about climate change,” HFPA President Lorenzo Soria told the AP. “The food we eat, the way we grow the food we eat, the way we dispose of the food is one of the large contributors to the climate crisis.”

And then they climbed the stairs to their private jets and flew away…
