Y2Kyoto: The Science Police

Roger Pielke Jr

This post is inspired by the successful efforts last week of climate activists — including three widely-cited scientists — to enforce misinformation by the legacy media. In a nutshell, ABC News wrote an accurate story about how climate was not a major or even significant factor in the Lahaina, Maui fire and disaster. After being mobbed by the enforcers, the story was changed to emphasize the role of climate. These sort of activist scientists who seek to enforce preferred public narratives have been called the “science police.”

Today’s post pushes back against this narrative enforcement with some actual science. Have a look at the panel below. It shows three versions of a climate time series for annual counts of North Atlantic major hurricanes from 1995 to 2050. Two of the graphs include a large change in climate, one of them does not.

Ban All The Things!

NY Post;

Far-left Brooklyn Councilman Lincoln Restler is pushing new legislation that would require Mr. Softee and other Big Apple ice cream trucks to stop powering their soft-serve machines and freezers with generators that use fuel.

The bill would require the vendors to switch over to environmentally friendly alternatives like electric or solar power — likely at a cost of $5,000 or more.

Ban All The Things!

We must eliminate plastic food wrap because hygiene is racist.

Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault’s department yesterday gave grocers until month’s end to comment on proposed curbs on single-use plastics like meat wrapping and fruit bags. A current ban on plastic six-pack rings and other goods will cost consumers $205 million, by official estimate: “There is a need to do business differently.”

When You Lose Greenpeace

City Journal- Greenpeace Admits Recycling Doesn’t Work

The Greenpeace report offers a wealth of statistics and an admirably succinct diagnosis: “Mechanical and chemical recycling of plastic waste has largely failed and will always fail because plastic waste is: (1) extremely difficult to collect, (2) virtually impossible to sort for recycling, (3) environmentally harmful to reprocess, (4) often made of and contaminated by toxic materials, and (5) not economical to recycle.” Greenpeace could have added a sixth reason: forcing people to sort and rinse their plastic garbage is a waste of everyone’s time. But then, making life more pleasant for humans has never been high on the green agenda.

Shocking discoveries

Central planners are upset that the latest plan is not being implemented as smoothly as they imagined in their dreams.

It seems that too many comrades are not following correct procedures thereby undermining the narrative.

However, a recent inspection blitz found several hundred instances of unsafe chargers being installed. Fraser said the blitz was started after realizing how few permits had been issued compared to the thousands of vehicles being registered.

In just one area of Toronto, they found over 400 unsafe working chargers without a permit in a 10-month period.

“We’ve seen people plugging an extension cord into a stove outlet in their kitchen, dangling it through the window and hanging it through the tree in order to charge their car.”

Don’t like it? Ban it!

As someone who sees the use of plastic cutlery at crowd events as a wonder of modern sanitation, I find Shiny Pony’s latest foray into another environmentalist minefield unsurprising. The philosophical course of his government seems focused on fully embracing the marvels of the dark ages.

The ban will be on single-use plastics including checkout bags, cutlery, food-service ware made from or containing plastic that is hard to recycle, ring carriers, stir sticks and straws, the  government said in a statement.

Y2Kyoto: State Of Anorexia Envirosa

They think we can’t find the lampposts when the lights are out.

The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) has released its latest reliability assessment for the summer of 2022 and, to put it mildly, the news is not good. In far too many states, the power grid is already nearly at full capacity, and in the next few months, that capacity will be exceeded. This isn’t a question of “if” or really even “when.” It’s just a fact. Industry experts know this and have been trying to sound the alarm for several years. Critics are trying to place the blame on climate change (as they do with everything else) in the form of extended droughts and heatwaves. Those factors definitely exacerbate the problem, but this was going to happen in the next year or so anyway. And thus far, the government has done virtually nothing about it.

I think they’re wrong.

Green taxes

If consumers supported the EV market as much as the green lobby imagines they do, there would be no need for such punitive mandates. City hall would be well advised to explore the impact of these measures on the overall power grid too, but that might also conflict with certain magical narratives.

Vancouver city hall is reportedly looking into a new policy fixated on gas stations that fail to support electric vehicle (EV) charging. If passed, gas stations will incur an annual fee of $10,000 for failing to provide EV charging stations.

…gas stations must provide 50 kilowatts of charging power. This would be enough for a single DC fast charger. Additionally, parking lots must provide a minimum of 26.6 kilowatts, enough for four Level 2 chargers. These can typically provide between 20 to 50 kilowatts per hour.

Gas Price Watch

I couldn’t find an equivalent map for Canada but this one of America is interesting:

Now Biden has banned all Russian oil imports. Any word about increased oil production in North America. Nope.

This, combined with a newly “fortified” election this November and the dwindling flame of Western democracy will be extinguished.

Update: Here’s the Canadian heat map – h/t Garth Wood

“as 5 new American projects, including expansions to existing facilities, are to be greenlit in the next 2 to 3 years”

Jas Johal;

If you think the vandalism and violence witnessed at the CGL pipeline isn’t an economic hostage taking, similar to the yahoos who shut down our border crossings, give your head a shake. Let’s look at how hard and fast Canada has fallen when it comes to LNG investment.

The US was behind Canada when it comes to LNG planning a decade ago. Now it has lapped Canada many times. While we struggle to build one large scale LNG plant, the US and world have moved on.

In response Its not rocket science. This is an example of many Gofundme accounts they operate & continue to receive funds from to pay for illegal activity. Millions have been raised over the last decade by Eco Activists. They use our language& sacred terminology to get taxpayers to send money
