“Reasonable and Proportionate”

Justin Trudeau-  “The scope of the Act is time-limited and targeted, reasonable, and proportionate – and it gives law enforcement agencies more tools to restore public order and protect people.”

Trudeau’s Canada

Update 2:

Where they literally trample on you and your rights.

Overhead picture.

Update from Kate: Please remember this is unconfirmed. Everyone is angry. I’m angry. Just don’t get ahead of your skiis.

Reports now are that both people trampled are ok.

Into The Heart of Darkness

Speaker of the House- The House of Commons will not sit today, Friday, February 18. A police operation is expected in the downtown core of Ottawa. Given these exceptional circumstances, and following discussion with all recognized party leadership, the sitting today is cancelled.

Anthony Furey;

The Canadian Parliament’s sitting has been cancelled today — a day where MPs would have been able to challenge Trudeau’s use of the Emergencies Act — using the police operation against the protesters as justification. They are basically saying the implementation of the Emergencies Act has created a situation where it is too dangerous to debate the Emergencies Act.

Meanwhile…      And… the obsolete media gets a snow day.

*Brain Peckford – When Ottawa Police Checkpoints ask why you’re going into Ottawa? “Because I’m a Canadian.

Update: Looking around the intergoogle this morning things are carrying on in Ottawa much like they have the past couple of weeks. Yes there’s a greater police presence, and checkpoints to get into the area, and they’re making some arrests. But the party and the protest continues.

Update 2: Police have gotten more aggressive. Standoffs with protesters in a number of locations. Police horses have been brought in.

Radical Leftist PM Uses Radical Leftist Government-Funded Media to Justify Power Grab

And what could possibly be wrong with that?

The incredible powers that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has given his government to freeze people’s bank accounts is based on their reliance on “analysis” from the CBC.

This is according to a 14-page document the government tabled in the House of Commons Wednesday night detailing the supposed rationale for invoking the Emergencies Act in the first place.

The basis for some of the most controversial measures they’ve brought in merely rely on nothing more than CBC reporting.”

Temporarily Unexpected

Inflation is now running hot in 80% of Canada’s price categories;

Consumer price pressures aren’t just accelerating, they’re broadening — and that could spell trouble for the Bank of Canada.

It’s getting difficult to argue the acceleration of inflation to three-decade highs is transitory or being imported from abroad. Nearly 80 per cent of the 48 subcategories in Canada’s consumer price index are now rising by more than 2 per cent, according to Bloomberg calculations on data released Wednesday by the national statistics agency.

That’s the highest proportion since 1991, far exceeding the 50 per cent average. Around two-thirds of prices are rising more than 3 per cent, the upper end of the Bank of Canada’s targeting band.

Some Things To Do

The federal “Conservatives” are busy Tweeting about housing prices and asking the PM in a mean voice when the mandates will end. When Convoy spokesman BJ Dichter told me never to underestimate the Conservatives ability to score on their own net, he wasn’t kidding.

In the meantime, there are some things Canadians and non-Canadians can do if they wish. These suggestions come from the truckers themselves. Trudeau has to bring this to Parliament within 7 days of the declaration and get a majority to pass it. Remember, he has a minority government. The NDP says they are going along with him but perhaps they are also reading the room (I know the chances of that are slim).  When you call, make sure you get a person on the line. I know it seems like they are all ignoring everyone, but calls and e-mails are tabulated and even if they don’t admit it, and even if they send you some dogsqueeze hooey form reply, your efforts are noted and go into their tabulations and calculations on public opinion (i.e how they can stay in power).

More legal thoughts here.

Plus: the petulant Blackface Wearing Boy King has lost the New York Times.

Canadians can e-mail and call their Member of Parliament and non-Canadians call call and/or e-mail their local Canadian Embassy or consulate to register their displeasure.

War Measures Act 2.0

Canadian criminal defense and firearms lawyer “Runkle of the Bailey” explains what a big deal invoking the Emergency Act is and gives his opinion on the firearms supposedly found in Coutts.

Andrew Lawton talks to some lawyers about the government targeting donors and bank accounts.

What the order does indicate is that the government is viewing support for the convoy in the same way it views money laundering and terrorist financing. What’s also clear is that the government has given banks carte blanche to report and freeze accounts based on “suspicion” alone, without liability.
