Keystone Excavating Ltd. has announced it is closing its doors, saying it can’t continue to provide the same quality of work “within the macro business environment in Alberta.”
“The macro business environment has everything to do with gratuitous government policy, increasing cost of doing business in Alberta, and lack of consumer and investor confidence,” the company said in a statement.

That fresh mountain air. Clears the lungs, focuses the mind, don’t you know.
I’m betting there would have been a lot of communities in Alberta that would have begged for a $27k infusion into the local economy more than Banff needed it.

Yesterday, Sheila Gunn Reid was peaceable reporting on the Women’s March in Edmonton.
She was violently attacked by a thug who took exception to the fact that she was recording.

Update below
Canada is not the US.
Start with those two rather salient differences: this is not America, and he is not Trump. Canada has not gone through anything like the serial traumas that the United States has, from the Sept. 11 attacks to the Iraq war to the housing collapse to the financial crisis. We have no parallel to the illegal immigration problem that so divides and defines American politics.
And why didn’t Canada go through the same malaise as the US? Because we had a steady hand at the tiller who knew what he was doing. Lord help us now if Canada is hit with another recession under the new watch.
Reminder, the French debate is tonight. Watch for it on CPAC. A debate where the non-francophones will be making fools of themselves with the exception of one who still hasn’t thrown his hat into the ring. Pride and cowardice come in many different wallets.
Update: Kevin O’Leary to enter Conservative leadership race tomorrow
One day after the French debate; transparent and spineless. Why those are just the qualities I’m looking for in a party leader.

If something cannot go on forever, it will stop.*
Britain’s health service is engulfed in a “humanitarian crisis” that requires the support of the Red Cross to use Land Rovers to transport patients, the charity said on Saturday.
Founded in 1948, the National Health Service (NHS) is a source of huge pride for many Britons who are able to access free care from the cradle to the grave.
But tight budgets, an ageing population and increasingly complex medical needs have left many hospitals struggling during the winter season in recent years, prompting headlines about patients being left to wait on trolleys for hours or even days.

Turner said operators have estimated the impact of the levy would increase the facility’s annual natural gas bill, which last year was about $60,000, by about 33 per cent without any changes. More troubling is on the electrical side of the bill, also powered by natural gas, which is expected to see an estimated 20 per cent hike on its annual $360,000 bill.
