A perceptive SDAer yesterday posted that the fascistic lockdown, by Facebook and Twitter, of the NY Post, may lead to a Streisand effect, whereby more American voters will become interested in the recent Biden revelation given the censorship.

      True, a quick check this morning shows that CBC News, CTV News and the Globe and Mail are dutifully censoring the shutdown of the NY Post. But CNBC business news had a group discussion on the censorship this morning, and the Independent newspaper has a story on it. One wonders if the U.S. media cartel and the billionaire social media can keep a lid on this. One can only hope not.

      1. As posted before, I am a HUGE “history and geography” geek. I have told many people that the year 2020 reminds me of both 1968 (all the unrest and lawlessness, including the Democratic convention of 1968) and of the years 1859 and 1860 just before the first American Civil War.
        I think that the fights with BLM and Antifa in Portland, Seattle, Minneapolis, Atlanta are the opening skirmishes of an abbreviated second Civil War.
        No matter who wins, there will be rioting and deaths in the streets.

      Actually, while there is a roughly equal core of people registered as Democrats/Republicans there is also a pool of registered 20-25% Independents.(let’s not forget the lunatic fringe American Socialist/Communist/Libertarian)

      The party that really wants to win has to have a platform that captures the Independent vote in any given cycle. That’s the sweet spot.

    1. I don’t see how a curfew changes anything. You gave friends visit, but have to end the evening early? If bars are a problem, close the bars. How does getting people home for 9:00 impact anything. This is exactly why prople are suspicious about the virus and governments using it to control people.     1. The masks are not healthy. I have concerns for people who are forced to wear them all day. Judy Mikovitz has a book that argues convincingly about the dangers. I believe that governments mandating masks are not paying attention. Unfortunately they seem to have closed their minds on this:

    2. I have been traveling a lot around the country and people are wearing masks where the virus is hitting or has hit hard, and not wearing them were infections are light, so it is no surprise. Masks are not bulletproof. Nobody ever said they were. If you are in an area where COVID is strong, there are lots of ways to pick it up, breathing the virus is only one of them.

    Turner Classic Movies will be showing Rollerball Saturday afternoon. That’s the original, made in 1975 starring James Caan and directed by Norman Jewison, not the re-make of nearly 20 years ago, which, I heard, tanked at the box office.

    Aside from the director, there are some other Canadian connections to the film. Watch for Toronto-born character actor Shane Rimmer as a team official. Also, John Beck, who plays Moonpie, was in the Canadian-made movie Paperback Hero.

    Rollerball was based on the short story Roller Ball Murder by William Harrison, which was published in Esquire a few years earlier. It’s available for download on the magazine’s website.

        You’re welcome. It was controversial when it was released due, I think, to the violence. Much of that’s explained in the story.

        In my opinion, it’s under-rated. It’s certainly aged well.

        Actually, I don’t think he misses me all that much. He was absolutely delighted when his “Mommy” picked him up and he didn’t pay as much attention to me. That’s how it should be.

            He’s going to be 11 tomorrow (i. e., the 16th).

            As I think mentioned in an earlier post, he’s starting to show his age. His predecessors began having back problems at around that time, but there were some major differences.

            First, the ones who lived to at least 10 were all overweight (my mother dubbed the last two her “fat little ladies”), and, second, they weren’t particularly active throughout their lives others than the occasional round of “fetch” and going walkies. I don’t know if their being long-hairs have anything to do with it.

          2. I read earlier tonight, as a matter of fact, that some dachshunds live to a ripe old age.
            There was Lady at 17, Fudgie & Otto at 20, Chanel at 21 and numero uno was Rocky at 25.
            I guess love, light diet and exercise are what really count in a pooch’s life.

          3. The last one that my parents had before my canine step-brother was 17 or 18 before she made her last trip to the vet. By then, she was toothless, blind, and lame, just like her step-sister who went to her final reward a year earlier.

            After those two were gone, the house was too empty and too quiet and that’s why my father visited a local breeder a few weeks later. The place was soon filled once again with bark, lick, and wag.

          4. Yes, dog owners are devoted to their pets, it’s so sad to see a dog suffer though.

            I read that (above mentioned) Rocky passed on and the same thing with the owners, they got a new doggo and named him Rocky II… how sweet, eh!
