In Defense Of Looting

NPR;

Writer Vicky Osterweil’s book, In Defense of Looting, came out on Tuesday. When she finished it, back in April, she wrote (rather presciently) that “a new energy of resistance is building across the country.” Now, as protests and riots continue to grip cities, she argues that looting is a powerful tool to bring about real, lasting change in society.

And it seems to be working: Riot-Ravaged Minneapolis Businesses Can’t Rebuild Because the Insurance Won’t Cover It.

As for Vicky Osterweil’s property, that’s a different matter.

    1. When I was a teen, Abbie Hoffman’s “Steal this BOOK” was a piece of counterculture iconography.
Seems that Vicky Osterweil’s book, In Defense of Looting is just a latecomer ripoff covering the same ground.

    2. Oh no, I downloaded the PDF and completely forgot that my download directory is also my P2P sharing directory.

      Oops.

  1. I’m more upset their insurance won’t cover it…those asswipes ruined these people’s lives…innocent people

    1. Yes, city officials who allowed for the feral ghetto mob to burn, loot and murder should be personally liable, then the city. As for the looters and rioters … every single tree and lamppost …

  2. Ok, so “Vickie” is trying to protect “her” intellectual property….
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha….cough!….ha heh heh heh….cough….Wheeze!
To belabour what you already gleaned….
Vickie is bereft of intellect, and knows nothing about property, let alone propriety.
And piss on her etymological use of Loot….Sanskrit but appropriated by 19 th century Brits etc.
Let us more precisely call it vandalism and anarchic tactics perpetrated by useful, ugly idiots like “Vickie”, yes, “she” with the head we all would love to kick into hamburger…etc.

  3. If I want manure, I will buy some from a farmer – a legitimate and respected realist.

    1. Not just that, but it’s the genuine article and of better quality.

  4. The Left has always called assault, vandalism and looting – particularly against Conservatives – “free speech”.
We need, in turn, to practise free speech upon the Left.

  5. Also help yourself to whatever you find in Osterweil’s home. Her insurance will cover it.

  6. I don’t indulge fantasies. Starting with Victor’s schmenge. Victor is a HE. Victor has a Y – chromosome. That is NATURE’s choice of a pronoun … and there is no other. Sorry, I’m not as “accommodating” as Jordan Peterson.

The second fantasy of looting being some sort of legitimate “means of support” for the Communist Revolutionaries? Sorry. It’s stealing. Theft. And I don’t consider wiping out entire stores of all their merchandise … vandalizing the fixtures … and then setting fire to the building as “looting”. So who cares about the etymology of the word “looting”?

THEFT: From Middle English theft, thefte, þefte, þefþe, þiefþe, from Old English þīfþ, þȳfþ, þēoft, earlier þīefþ, þēofþ (“act of thieving; theft”), from Proto-Germanic *þiubiþō, from *þeubaz (“thief”), equivalent to thief +‎ -th or thieve +‎ -th. Cognate with Old Frisian thiuvethe, thiufthe (“theft”), Old Norse þýfð, þýft, and (obsolete) Dutch diefte.

Screw the Sanskrit def’n. of “Looting” … as any of the European definitions of “theft’ will suffice. Oh … but Victor is so clever *puhleeze* to extrapolate the etymology of “looting”. Nothing but mental masturbation … but … I suppose Victor is well practiced at the masturbatory arts … esp. as he pretends to be a she … for his boyfriends down at the bathhouse

  7. But, but, “you didn’t build that”. Was that Obama or Warren, don’t care enough to check.

  8. Idiots like Vicky should be sent to an Arctic penal colony and sentenced to 20 years’ hard labour.

  9. Insurance industry is grand, is it not?
If having insurance made any sense, they would not be selling it.
All of my life I had the minimum insurance required by all kinds of corrupt laws, and I am thousands of miles ahead of everyone who allowed themselves to be intimidated into fear by the industry ads and bought all kinds of insurance.
If you do the math, you learn that everyone who buys insurance is statistically screwed out of money.
I love this wake up call that they are having. It must be a real eye-opener. For the math-challenged.

  10. why are you referring to a She, when Vicky Osterweil is not a she but a deluded male who wants to be a female
