CPC Leadership Results

Update@ 21:05: blahblahblah Scheer blahblahblah Diane Finley and then the punchline… still no results. This is the most incompetent, boring party in the history of Canadian politics.

21:42: This is so boring The Rebel is now replaying Scheer speeches at both drunk and Ben Shapiro speed.

02:40am… No winner after first ballot… Lewis wins Saskatchewan, Sloan drops off, at 33.52% McKay has the most votes but little room to grow.

O’Toole wins by nearly 5,000 points over McKay.

    1. Last time around they waited until the results were announced before they destroyed the ballots.

    2. In other words, Derek Sloan won by a landslide, and they have to rig the ballot on the spot.

An hour and a half my foot. If this isn’t a trick, sit down and count them by hand. We can wait for months if necessary.

      1. And I though I was the cynic…
By the by, any speculation how much McCain (Morneau Liberal) potato money went to buying Conservative Party memberships in order to get McKay the leadership?

  1. A Parliamentary System will never come up with a Donald Trump. Never, ever.
Trump defeated every establishment candidate to win the primaries in the U.S. The people chose him not party functionaries.
That’s virtually impossible in Canada, the UK and so forth

The bad news in the US is that we only have two political parties. With gerrymandering and no term limits you get perpetual jackasses in both parties and very few Ron Paul’s, Rand Paul’s or Donald Trump’s.

Nevertheless, I will take our system because of the possibility of getting a Donald Trump.

….and pray that Blackface, Fratboy JustinTruedopia is abducted by space aliens.

    1. So your against the people deciding. You would rather be governed by those who think they’re smarter than the people.
      Sad.

      1. Huh? I’m an American and know more about this than you do, assuming you are from Canada.

CBC: “Despite the setbacks, nearly 175,000 votes were cast in this year’s race out of almost 270,000 eligible members — the highest number of votes in the party’s history.”

“The People” are deciding nothing. Only “eligible party members” vote – some 270,000 of them. Yet in the 2019 elections the Conservatives in Canada got 6,239,227 votes in 2019. Those are “THE PEOPLE.”

Trump got 14,000,000 votes in the primaries in 2016. Ted Cruz got 7 million in 2nd place. Not eligible Bush loving RINO eligible. party approved jackasses but “The People.”

That was my point. “Eligible Party Members” in Canada would never pick Trump.

Does any Canadian here on this great blog see what I am trying to say?

        1. JG – on what grounds have you determined that “eligible party members” would never pick Trump? All it took to become “eligible” was to buy a membership and that wasn’t expensive. I rather doubt there were too many of those 175,000 who would be “never Trumpers”.

          1. Frances,

Well. time will tell. My point is that if the 6,239,227 people who voted Conservative in Canada in 2019 were given a direct vote, Canada would have a Trump sooner than if they keep choosing party leaders with only 3% of the Conservative constituency.

In the US, the National GOP Organizations as a group would never have selected Trump.

        2. Bullspit. If Trump were on the ballot I would have voted. Instead I abstained, and am waiting to see what the rest of the party decided. There’s a 3 out of 4 chance it will be an unsupportable leader. I like my local MP, the rest of the party can go … support themselves.

        3. Yes, John Galt III, whether or not they agree with you, anybody should be able to understand it as you explained it.

    2. What you actually want is “proportional representation.” Max and his PPC would have won about 8 seats in 2019 in a proportional system. Then he could have negotiated a PPC-CPC coalition minority government.

      1. No way PR. It leads to a permament class of political office holders, where governments and policies are formed in secret back-room deals to get a majority coalition. And you can never throw the bums out, there will always be enough of a percentage to guarantee even the most hated, by the public, political insider getting a sinecure.

This is why politicians constantly talk about it: jobs for life!

        1. I agree. A two party system forces a decision, right or wrong. Proportional representation postpones decisions while all the “partners” negotiate the best deal for themselves. We can see the glimmerings in our present (non) parliament. None of the parties are too different, but they all want to feel special.

  2. Ugh… delayed… can they not not shoot themselves in the foot just once?

Every media outlet in the country is allied against them, don’t keep giving them ammo…

  3. Considering the relatively few votes in this entire process why couldn’t they use the simple mark an x beside the person you support.

    1. Cannibal Peons for Collectivism. When will the centre and centre right of Canada get their shit together and dump Grits?

    1. What did you say? I took a look at the comment sections and quite a few were nasty slurs against Conservatives. There is a bias there even before the leader is announced. Those nasty comments were not being taken down. I can’t imagine what their criteria is for deleting comments.

  4. Geez, I’m on the edge of my seat. Love to stick around but I have to give the cat a bath.
I wonder who the next CPC leader will be who’ll stick a knife into the backs of their base.
Joe Clark, John Tory, Brian Mulroney, Stockwell Day, Preston Manning and now Doug Ford…not exactly the murderer’s row of conservatism.

    Cynical? Don’t blame me.

    1. So it’s the GTA Liberal, not the Maritimes Liberal? At least we could have had a Caribbean Liberal. (Hey, then we might have the Turks & Caicos a Canadian province). But better would be a Conservative.

    2. Prediction: O’Toole 38, MacKay 34, Lewis 18, Sloan 10
      1st Actual: O’Toole 31.6, MacKay 33.5, Lewis 20.5, Sloan 14.4

I win the pool! Too bad there is no pool thanks to virus. Story of my life.

  5. Can I offer some counter intuition?

It matters not one fig who gets the leadership.
The liberals intend to engineer the government falls after that throne speech and then we enter into a long drawn out campaign during which their media scribes will faithfully run with every piece of dirt they can throw at the conservative leader to show what a threat they are to anyone that is on the receiving end of a government cheque.
But wanna know a secret that gives me hope?
If the sock monkey manages to stay on the government side he has to deal with the fiscal mess he created and his finance minister a real yes sir camp follower, will agree to all his spending plans, no matter how stupid and foolish they are and offer no indication that there is a limit.
Then you get your new country.

    1. No; Liberals always leave the fiscal mess to the Conservatives and blames them for being mean spirited tight-wads. But I do agree with the rest of your analysis. There will be an election immediately with the CP leader totally unprepared and the Liberals bestowing money on anyone who wants it. And remember, it was Justin’s courageous actions that prevented us all from dying from the evil Tory Flu.

  6. Tweedle dee, tweedle dumb, tweedle dumber, tweedle dumbest — pick your poison, er politician.

  7. I’m not looking for unicorns and puppies here but you alleged right wing people commenting here are a big part of the reason Conservatives have trouble connecting. If you’re not (legitimately) bitching about the corruption in Ottawa you’re slagging your own at the drop of a hat. Many comments here are worse than I’m reading on social media from partisan Liberals. Brutal.

    1. Garry, read at the top right of this blog page what Kate says is the reason for this blog:

Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me “what Canadians think”. In all that time they never once asked.

Most of us are tired of the CBC telling us Conservatives what is good for us. The Conservativ eParty is supposed to offer a conservative set of policies, nit just a slighlty rewashed version of left wing CBC policies and opinions.

      1. Agreed all ‘round but I’m talking about constant whining about any perceived misdeed or malfunction like what’s happening today. As for true conservative issues and values, in today’s Canada you’ve gotta put a little water in your wine to get anything left of reality in play. Peter MacKay is not that water but unfortunately he’s better than Skippy and his band of thriving idiots. I’m left feeling the next Con leader will be merely a placeholder (if he/she wins federally) until the next media anointed messiah comes along to ‘save’ Canada. Such a sad state of affairs. Teach your children well. It’s our only hope.

        1. 1. “Peter MacKay … better than Skippy …”
No, say he’s not as bad as Skippy, it’s more accurate.

          2. “… Teach your children well. It’s our only hope.”
It may be their only hope, to see their children start to turn things around, any good that comes of what we can teach them will come to fruition too late for us.

    2. You’re absolutely right Garry. Just as the left parades their virtue, the right seems to never miss an opportunity to be as unpleasant as possible. If your conservative friends on social media are anything like mine, you’ll have noticed a constant stream of garbage from them, which only serves to make them, their positions and the party look horrible. What the vast majority are too dumb to realize is they do nothing but drive away people who might vote conservative. You’d almost think they were all paid liberal shills, but of course, they’re so dumb they do the liberals’ bidding for free.

If conservatives want to win the membership needs to learn to shut up. On social media, in public. Donate, volunteer, and learn to keep their f$$$ing mouths shut. But they don’t want to win. They want to feel virtuous and be able to complain with impunity.

(I’m a member of the party, and I voted for Erin O’Toole).

      1. Oh look; the “we’re better than that” lecture club! How many straight elections have you guys lost using that strategy?

        Asking, for a “friend”.

        1. If O’Toole won leader instead of Scheer the CPC would be in the PMO now.
Scheer disappointed but I stuck with him and did not trash him in public, Garry’s point. With the media 100% for the Liberals/ Progressives we don’t need party faithful cheering them on.
When I see people trashing the party like you all I see is a Liberal schill.
          Go away or STFU.

  8. too late for the Cuckservatives and any of the potential leaders. Scheer ran them into the ground and turned them even more left than they already were.

    Vote Wexit

  9. I shouldn’t be surprised if this is the mail-in voting system the Democrats are planning to run in November.

  10. lying bullshit bullshit bullshiit Been a conservative for 50 years makes me ill to read this

  11. In the USA, a sovereign citizen declares as a Democrat, Republican or Independent. The electorate at large then selects the candidates in an open democratic primary election. All registered voters participate.

In Canada a small members-only secretive cabal within a Political party with voting privileges selects the Party candidates in a closed autocratic manner like the Skull and Bones society. This is then presented to the electorate as a wise and democratic selection. The candidates then further go on to the General Election without ever appearing on a ballot except in their own tiny Riding and then only as an MP. The powers that be then ask “pretty please” for the Queen of England to APPOINT their particular stooge to the position of Prime Minister or Premier. This is what passes for democracy in Canada.

    1. Not quite that way. Have taken out party memberships so I could have a say in who was going to represent our riding. The fun comes when several of the candidates use unscrupulous means to get members signed up to vote. I remember when a Dr David was supposed to be able to deliver the Filipino community but don’t remember to which party.

    2. You must remember that a political party is in fact a small gathering of people with compatible viewpoints who want to exercise ultimate political power. The American system is ossified to essentially prevent any new mainstream parties to exist. The US system also means endless campaigning and it’s very expensive. I feel that the system of nominating leaders in Westminster countries used to be more honest. What you are witnessing tonight is an embarrassing effort to move a Westminster system toward a pseudo-American system.

Recent US leadership campaigns have promoted thoroughly ineffective leaders (both parties, with the exception of #45 and that was a fluke). What Canada needs to realize is that the country is in very deep trouble and that they need to watch the US very very very carefully (that is if they want a functioning economy). They need to stop believing the NYT, CNN, PBS, WaPo, NPR, MSNBC and CBC and find out what is really happening in the US. However, I do not think that Canadians will wake up in time. Wexit may be necessary to shake things up.

    3. “In the USA, a sovereign citizen declares as a Democrat, Republican or Independent. The electorate at large then selects the candidates in an open democratic primary election. All registered voters participate.”
That is not entirely correct. Superpacs can game the system. Remember when Wasserman -Schultz was outraged because people though tgebparty should go with the Primary results? So she shouted “Citizens don’t pick the candidate. We pick the candidate.” That is what is understood inside the party. I am still expecting a last minute dumping of Biden in favour of Hillary.

    4. And, you don’t get to actually vote for the PM or the Head of State. The PM is the leader of the party that elects the most members to Parliament. Then the PM gets to choose the Head of State as well as Senators (to help push through BS bills).

If you’re going to disparage John A MacDonald for anything, do it for the mess of a system (I.e. not American) he set up. It ensures the tyranny of the majority. That is the GTA and Montreal pushing the “one-size-fits-all” laws for the rest of the country.

    1. Yes!!! No mercy!!
For me Sheer failed the day he and the clan decided Dr. Salim Mansur could not run as a CPC candidate.

        1. Max was a second-generation gadfly coasting on his father’s coat-tails. He (in no particular order) unwisely posed for photos with real White Supremesists, flaunted his busty biker girlfriend, left confident Cabinet documents laying around unsecured. His strong ideological commitment to libertarian ideas are to be commended but, as a politician, he will always be a failure. The PPC needs a strong, organized, and smart leader to take them forward (Polievre??)

          1. chris, that makes Max just another human, and that is why he is a good political leader, but then you probably don’t like Trump either., Or have you never dated a girl with big tits????

        2. Max was no such thing.
A whining self entitled my way or else complainer.
          Too close to Power Corp.
          Good riddance.
The only highlight of the election for me was PPC: ZERO seats. Fools. The target is Trudeau. Thankfully not much damage was done.

  12. Such dated process! In 2020, is there a good reason for far off conventions where only delegates vote to choose the winner.

    1. This was not a delegated election, twit; this was a mail-in vote election of all members. Od course, there are weaknesses with such a style of voting. I prefer a member vote at a polling station in each EDA (riding). More reliably honest.

But leadership conventions do have an electricity to them; I went to an NDP one very many moons ago.

    1. Amazingly. that was the first sounds he uttered as leader and he is till uttering them.

I anticipate more of the same from the next leader.

    1. Amazingly. that was the first sounds he uttered as leader and he is till uttering them.

I anticipate more of the same from the next leader.

    2. C’est de rigeur après tout. The Québeçois really seriously look down on western Canadians as uncouth and uncultured. Which is why, back in the day when was at a “bi-cultural” event, pushed an offspring to give a western response “tout en français. Said offspring nailed it.

      1. Frances, ne mettez nous pas tous-tes dans le meme panier ici. Je pourrais dire que tous-tes les anglos haissent le Quebec mais ce n’est pas un fait.
        Stay factual

  13. They can’t run their own stuff how can they ever run the country.

Machine slicing the ballots? Did they not test it? Someone had one job and screwed it up.

    These people really are pathetic.

    1. Andrew Scheer is still technically the leader and his people are still running things. Which explains a lot. Keep these people away from sharp objects.

    1. Are you sure that’s wise? If I tried to make a drinking game out of this I’d be comatose, and close to death, by now.

It’s running a lot longer than it should.

      1. You’re not going to try to get through this sober, are you???

        You’re braver than me, that’s for sure…

        1. Oh heavens no, I’m drinking. Just not to keywords. Alcohol poisoning could be a serious threat at this point.

          Stay safe, my friend (hic!).

  14. Hmmm…I missed what Rebel Media has to say to this: (from David Akin)
“Don’t take the left-wing media narrative as fact. Please check out smart, independent, objective organizations like the Post Millennial, or True North,” Scheer says. “There are other places to get information. Let’s stop being the silent majority.”

    1. Ok…they just answered my question. Right now Rebel media is being followed by more than the CPC live feed….Ha!

  15. My money is on them buying time for a recount like what happened with the Ontario PC leadership.

  16. Full props on the livestream! Go Kate!

Just say your commentary about the incompetent boring party. On target, laser guided.

  17. Big SDA mention on Rebel livestream! WTG Kate. Been a reader for almost all of those “20 years”. SDA has been either the first or second site visited every day for much of my adult life and I’m a better human for it.

  18. Folks, Kate doesn’t do this for a living. This is a sideline. Please consider a donation to support citizen reporting (and discussion) like this.

If the CBC were based on popular support and views then Kate would be at least $200k per year. Isn’t this enjoyable episode at least worth buying her a beer?

(and no, Kate, I don’t want a percentage.)

      1. Best be careful. Though you’re right about the likely cutoff, what if I were to say 250%?

Sadly, I’m on the right, so would recognize it wouldn’t be right to try to collect.

  19. Ew. At the 2x play speed showing Andrew Scheer in the house, he’s making masturbation motions.

  20. I wonder how much andy scheep cost the bronfmans to buy, and how much are they spending this time around, and I will not say they are the jews who run our politics!!!!!

    1. Scheer was bought by Quebec dairy farmers. Who shredded their CPC cards the next day and voted for the Bloc in the general election.

  21. You should all take heart at what is transmorgafying at the moment, especially Americans. This is a prima facia case for Trump to abandon the Democrat demands for mail in balloting in the upcoming US election. Can you imagine the state of affairs if America accepts mail in ballots and this kind of F*ck Up, oh sorry, if this kind of happenchance were to be repeated with tens of millions of ballots. Hanging shards were one thing but machine destroyed ballots that have to be re-assembled by unbiased human beings, oh sorry again, unbiased peoplekind beings, well that is indeed a horse of a different colour. I’ll open another bottle of wine and wait until tomorrow to see the unmitigated disaster that this leadership campaign has descended into turns out.

  22. A good question about the price of personal sell-out on the livestream. We all have a price. What is mine? Probably about $2 million (depending on what I think inflation will do).

What is Ezras? A good answer!

Poor Keane! More wine, less Redbull. Though, considering the political moves of the Redbull owners… more Redbull!

    1. I was disappointed in Ezra on that one. A billion$ is “fuck you money”. Cash the cheque and then double down.

  23. What a $hit $how, my god, how did we fall so far.

Just elect Pierre and let’s be done with this.

  24. Nope. BlahBlahBlah… no updates.

I have to work tomorrow, but keep monitoring because I want to know before I call it a night.

Whoops, response to James at 10:20

  25. At this point I think we can safely assume Derek Sloan won hands down, he is not going to be leader of Canada’s bogus opposition party, and henceforth all hope of reforming the Dominion is lost, short of American-led regime change.

    Good night.

  26. a 1000 piece puzzle is an identifier for an aspie. Many happy hours finishing puzzles started by others, but not able to follow them through.

This carries through to public policy in many ways.

  27. Wow yeah I’m sure surprised the cpc screwed this up royally. Seriously Scherer in charge of anything is a disaster.

  28. Has the role of mild-mannered non-abrasive feeble critic of the Natural Governing Party been determined?

There’s always Max, at least he has a clue.

  29. OK PC I am now furious.
I believe that Trudeau is an existential threat to Canada.
We have seen incompetence by the Liberal Government. NDP naively allowed the Liberals to limit parliament. The Block helped as well.
But that pales by the incompetence of the PC seen tonight.
    1) Machines not adequately tested
    2) No risk plan in case a problem with a counting problem
    3) Initial assessment (and therefore the plan) was inadequate
    4) hour by hour you proved your estimates were wrong.
This looks like total chaos and incompetence. For a high stakes decision like this each of the above is a firing offence.
And that needs to happen; there need to be several very public firings.
The PC has thrown away it’s main weapon against the Liberals, their mind numbing incompetence, by demonstrating their own.
Be aware PC – not another penny from me until I am assured that competency has returned.

    1. When Trudeau calls an election this fall, Elections Canada may as well limit the ballots the CPC scrutinizes to 175,000 or less. Let the Liberals do the rest.

    2. Everything Andrew Scheer and his Chief of Staff Hamish Marshall touched turn to excrement, including their own going away festival tonight. Peter MacKay got one thing right when he said Scheer scored on his own net at the last election.

  30. “The CBC got a 15 minute warning 20 minutes ago”.

And therein lies the primary problem with media coverage today. Why are we waiting 20 minutes?

On the plus side, it’s no longer illegal to feed the homeless. No word on whether one should be denied public support based on one’s politics.

    1. Because the incompetent Conservative party gave the media a 15 minute warning, and then failed to follow through and/or were delayed again, and have been silent on why they missed this latest deadline. Not the media’s fault.

  31. Justin Trudeau is the big winner of the CPC leadership race tonight.

Did you hire the Iowa Democrat Party to count the votes?

  32. Pretty damn amazing.
Here in 2020 dealing with a small group of people 180 000,the Conservative party can’t even use email or a secure site.
How does mastercard and visa survive?
This fiasco looks good on the Liberal Lite wing of our uni-Party.
    United in Kleptocracy.

  33. All of my efforts and funding will go towards wexit this was a pathetic joke start to finish including the result which I don’t trust

Celebrate left you’ve won big tonight

  34. WTF Hell?

These clowns miscounted all these ballots in a central location, why are they having people in distant locations announce the results.

Just announce the damned results! You already f’d up and po’d everyone. Why drag this BS out?
