  1. Good Year had a long run….GM Auto Manufacturing Contracts etc… Never was a good tire… Time they folded the Air-ship Blimp and Screwed OFF…..

    1. I talked with a Goodyear rep at a mine about it. He helped us get our average tire use up from 3200 hours to nearly 4500. He knew the rubbers, wear characteristics, temperature and weight profiles… everything needed to fine-tune an application.

He said that Goodyear would always make the cheapest OEM you could find, putting their names on condoms if that’s what the car manufacturer wanted. He advised that if I ever bought a new car I should immediately buy new tyres that weren’t OEM because upper management cared more about selling more units and name recognition than it did about being identified as a high quality supplier.

I followed the OEM advice, but didn’t get Goodyears.

      1. I have talked to several people in the automotive/tire field, and they all agree that Goodyear tries to make its reputation on one high end model of tire that can be tested by automotive magazines etc, and then make all their money by shipping cheap shit for everything else.

      2. Good comment. On the Airstream Forum (trailer that is) the standard issue Goodyear Marathon tires have an unequaled reputation for crap. They are known as the Goodyear Explodathons for their propensity to blow out after a tread separation. Our dealer replaced them immediately with Michelins which have proved flawless. Goodyear seemed to have upped their game recently when they replaced the Marathons (sourced from China) with a new U.S. built trailer tire the Endurance.

  2. Goodyear just does not want to see its service locations torched. They think that will save them. Remember: terrorism works!

Would be interesting to plot Goodyear service locations and their proximity to riot damage. I suspect that things got close in more than one location.

    1. I believe that corporations are kowtowing to BLM radicals for the same reason the NBA, NFL, and MLB have all put the BLM logo on their leagues … their employees. NBA – all black, NFL – mostly black. MLB – black Hispanics from the Caribbean (and a few white crackahs from hinterland USA). Goodyear Tire? – their employees are mostly; POOR … black, Black Hispanics from the Caribbean, poor white wiggers with a Fentanyl habit. So … the wealthy white cats in corporate … are just giving their slave wage earners what they want to hear. And the one old white dude near retirement with the Trump 2016 bumper sticker faded and torn on his Mercury Marquis? F()ck him. Simple business decision.

Me? Wake me up when the Korean and Japanese Tire manufacturers indoctrinate THEIR employees with such nonsense. I haven’t bought a N.American Tire in decades. F()ck em.

      1. Toyo are my go-to, but word got around so the price went way up. Hankook are pretty good too.

        1. Last few years I’ve been going with the all weather Nokian brand, Finnish made and produced. Great tires and no need to go through the torture of trying to guess when to pay the guy to change my tires. Has the mountain snowflake certification as a winter tire good enough for Canada including the mountains of BC. First time I asked for them I got a blank look and never heard of them. Only when I said I was buying those tires and no others and I was going elsewhere if he didn’t have it did I get the guy to say “Let me check my catalogue. Oh yeah we can get them in special order.” I love it when I don’t have to pay someone to do something twice a year, which is likely why most people have never heard of them. And guess what brand was on his wife’s car? Nokian. As for Goodyear? Bought one set for trailer. That was also the last one for my trailer or any other vehicle I own. Hankook second choice.

          1. My Nokians are made in Russia. Finnish brand but made all around that part of the world I think. Check the tire sidewall to see where yours actually were produced. The Nokian WRGs and Nordmans are excellent “All Weather Tires” that allow you to avoid the fall and spring change over.

      1. I’m a loyal Kal guy and have been for a long time. Also own Nokians. Summers and winters. Never had a problem with Kal’s staff or their service. But if they go Woke I’m out of there.

  3. https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/GT

    Stock is down.
Trading volume is way up. Selloff in progress.
The most successful trading strategy developed in recent times is known as the Social justice Short. Is not even based on boycotts or politics, just that any business that starts to focus on social justice themes is ignoring their core business concerns and will have trouble on the horizon.

  4. Hmmmm…who buys tires? Is it the mass transit dominated urban centers? Nope. Is it the sub-urban and rural areas that depend on motor vehicles to get around? Yes…why yes it is.

Note to Goodyear Marketing Department: Know your demographic base. Learn to code.

    1. A single tire for a mining haul truck is over $60k. The haul trucks use 4 in the back, and 2 up front. The volume isn’t there compared with police departments (for example), but there’s a lot of dollars in the niche markets.

  5. I have no problem with a company forbidding any kind of political endorsement or support by employees while on duty. In fact, I recommend it. But they have to be consistent. They can’t pick and choose which ones are okay.

    1. and that’s the key point. If black lives matter isn’t political, then neither is all lives matter, or blue lives matter.

  6. The media has done an amazing job of never letting their audience see past the slogans. Antifa (anti-fascist fascists). BLM (anti-capitalist, anti-family, anti-justice black supremacists).

  7. I don’t believe it’s Goodyear, the company. It’s some brain-dead union worker.

It’s about what I’d expect from one of those. They aren’t all that bright!!

  8. If Goodyear had simply gone the route where no political attire of any sort is allowed in the workplace then they would have had a case. However, they showed their intolerant far-left-lean and now they will pay in lost business.

I for one, will never buy a Goodyear product again. I don’t buy anything Nike either. I vehemently boycott all things Chinese.

    1. Agreed – I do not go to Starbucks, Burger King or any other company who hates me as a white, senior woman who has conservative values.

  9. The wokest of woke companies I work for announced a 5 to 1 matching gift program for employee donations to BLM. Yes, really. Hardly got any donations, so instead of taking a hint and deciding to just quietly end the program, they double-downed and extended the program a few more weeks. UFB. I want to puke every day I walk into the building.

    1. If you know the employees who gave your best action would be to never speak to them again.
      Obviously they’re mentally deranged.

    2. Reminds me of one of my customers that insisted I needed to join their united way initiative. I said that if I did I would have to raise prices to cover off the charity donations and would that be ok? She said not really. I then said good, take that money you saved with me and donate it to the united way yourself. And yes I retained the customer!

      1. Coerced charity isn’t charitable. That includes governments at any level donating public funds to any charity – when the government gives money to a charity on “our” behalf, it’s just another way of trying to buy votes.

  10. I will give Goodyear until Monday to fix this. Fire someone, allow MAGA hats and My KeepAmericaGreat face mask mandated by the MN governor. I like Goodyear tires but have at least 4 years before I need more. Just put new ones on the older car so I’m good. Makes it hard to join a boycott, but fix this or lose me for the rest of my life.

Unrelated, I never liked chicken sandwiches that much anyway and don’t need to go to a chicken sandwich shop that invited me to shine some ones Nike shoes. I will never go there again and Goodyear faces the same decision. Monday is the deadline. Shine some ones shoes so I can buy your sandwich? Why did they just not offer my ass for gay sex for the honor of buying their stuff? Chick-fil-A: die.

    1. Goodyear clearly doesn’t understand the demographic that buys its tires.

Lots of DEPLORABLES with Big Ass Trucks with Big Ass Tires on them. A prime market and very profitable work. And Goodyear clearly screwed this up.

Yes, I’ve got GYs on my truck, and they have 60% left on them, but, the new tires will definitely be another brand.

    2. Give them till Monday if you want but nothing’s getting FIXED and nobody’s getting FIRED. This wasn’t some tweet sent out by “mistake”, it’s part of their training manual. This was thought through by all in upper management so they’ll have to live with this. Even if the Big Guy didn’t originally approve and would love to reverse this decision he knows that it’ll be THEN that their stores become targets. As it is now this isn’t much of a story in the media but if Goodyear were to come out and say this was a mistake and are changing this policy…??? Can you imagine?
      “YOU HATE BLACK PEOPLE”
      Cue the riots.

  11. Black Tires Matter – just not Good Year tires. No more Good Year for me ever. This Woke nonsense is making it easier for me to shop.

  12. We’ve tried various Goodyear and GY subsidiary tyres in remote 4wd ops in Australia (expat) over the years.
Nothing comes close to suitable Mickey Thompsons, owned by Cooper Tyres, made in USA, and so far not kowtowing to marxist thugs.

  13. I go through 1 to 2 sets of tires a year. Used to run Goodyear duratracs. But not any more. China made, gillette, Nike, Goodyear, NHL, nfl, cfl, NBA, nascar. All done. Any other companies care to step forward and add their name to my boycott list?
