    Interval signals were used to identify stations before beginning their broadcasts and, sometimes, during program breaks. I personally heard many of the stations referred to in the video.

    Most of the images are of verification cards that stations would send out to listeners. All one had to do was submit a reception report, giving details such as program content, frequency, and date and time heard (often including some International Reply Coupons to pay for return postage). If the details checked out, the stations usually responded with one of these cards, partly as souvenirs (many of those cards being collector’s items) and also as thanks as the details in the reception reports were used by the technical staff as well as the audience research departments.

    I verified many of the stations in the video, though not necessarily receiving the same cards. (I think I’ve got a copy of the one shown for Kol Israel.) I spent many hours straining to hear those signals through the noise and often lousy propagation conditions.

    Alas, many of those stations have left the high frequency shortwave bands. Running them costs money and the transmitters are hayburners. Also, much of the equipment was old with spare parts becoming scarce and replacement hardware expensive.

    Still, it was a lot of fun for me many years ago. Now I try to make my own noise on the radio bands and, as it turns out, many of my fellow hams got their start by listening to many of the same stations I did.

Republican Governor Kristi Noem showed how it’s done – “Rioting and looting will not be tolerated in South Dakota!” – and there’s been very little rioting in other Republican States.

      Trump in a landslide – and the Democrats are gonna’ pay for this at the state and municipal level for many years.

    Most team names are tributes to the animal or the object or the people they are named after.
    They are not meant to be derogatory to anyone.

I am watching Finance Minister Bill Morneau, and Pierre Poilievre and other opposition MPs accuse Morneau of paying back to the WE Charity $41;000 — today, the same day he is testifying at this Committee –for expenses WE incurred for Morneau’s trip to Ecuador.   33. Although it too rarely happens, the RCMP has made an arrest of a Canadian terrorist. In the article, there is a brief update on the known terrorists that Canada has exported, not all of whom have returned (thankfully):

  34. An excellent critical documentary on China, and it’s from PBS no less. It does not criticize Trump, and in fact praises him, at least indirectly. Extensive presentation on how China is using technology, particularly Huawei’s, to expand surveillance in support of its totalitarian regime, and the export of that technology to other anti-democratic regimes.

    You will never see a documentary like this on CBC, since the Dear Leader so admires China’s basic dictatorship.
