What Do the Woke Left and White Supremacists Have in Common?

Some have called this recent podcast episode by Sam Harris the most important podcast segment in the history of the Internet. It’s long. He has nothing nice to say about Trump. But his message for reasonable people on the Left is critically important. This would be a brilliant link to send to all of your Left-leaning family & friends and encourage them to listen to it to the end.

(Seconded by Kate. It’s an important podcast and people like Sam Harris, no matter their partisan leaning, need our support.)

  1. The same Sam Harris who peddled Russian collusion for three years?

I’ll pass. He’s part of the problem.

    1. Sam is rational, except when it comes to Trump and when it comes to freewill v determinism.

But with regard to woke culture, he’s on the same side as us.

And he just might be able to get through to a few lefties …

      1. Excellent point, Eagle.

I would feel similarly about Bill Maher, if he were not totally compromised by his own extreme case of TDS. I know some here hate Maher just because he dare be an outspoken atheist, but it is undeniable that for many, many years he did more than any conservative to warn America of the evils of allowing Islam and Shariah Law into western society… and took a shit-ton of flak from his fellow leftards for doing so.

But these days, he’s nothing more than just another lying Democrat, knowingly pushing a false and destructive narrative.

        1. The weird thing about Maher, is that when he calls out the left, he totally kills it. And in the meantime he is a talented guy completely consumed by TDS, as you say. Maher’s response to the Covington kids was especially reprehensible.

I cannot for the life of me begin to comprehend how people like Maher who are otherwise quite smart, can get some things so totally ass backwards.

          1. It’s all about the cash and the adulation, Eagle. Brain for hire and narcissism to be quenched.

          2. I think that Trump supporters can never be in the category “who are otherwise smart”. Any supporter of that blithering idiot(to be clear, to the Trumpette morons here, that would be Trump)

  2. He told so many lies in the first 10 minutes that I threw in the towel. I did at least agree with his concerns about social media.

  3. Well, I got through about forty minutes. He does sound more or less reasonable but his argument is filled with unsupported assuptions. Generally, everything is president Trump’s fault. “Orange Man Bad.
Had he had an editor comb out the TDS, he woould have made a better case and I might have given him the other hour.

  4. Guys, the fact that Sam suffers from TDS is the reason why this podcast is so important.

One of their own is calling BS on BLM.

He will either convince people, or be thoroughly excommunicated from the progressive religion.

Either way, the ranks of the lunatics get thinned.

    1. I doubt it. Maher gets off the hook with lefties for his views on Islam, Harris will get off the hook for this.

  5. Sorry ,in my view, the Woke are the White Supremacists.
Only our progressive comrades harbour the delusion that poor coloured people are so helpless they can achieve nothing without helping hands of their White Superiors.
Only the Woke blame the sorrows of Demon Rat Enclaves upon every other White Group, except themselves.
Results speak much louder than their lies.
The results prove that our Progressive White Power Trippers are the most consistent White Supremacists in history.
    Malice and Stupidity is,
    Oh so Progressive.

  6. Yeah, no. Just another rando that hates Trump and is willing to ignore reality to support his side. He doesn’t care about anything but the optics of how current events make his worldview “look” wrong. Who has 2 hours to waste on listening to this rubbish? If it can’t be written down into a 2000 word essay, it’s neither useful nor interesting.

  7. If we don’t join forces with people who differ in politics but still stand for truth, data and obejctivity, we lose.

He’s standing up for those principles against his own deranged ideological tribe, and is prepared to pay the price for it. If we don’t support that, then we deserve to lose.

If you can’t see that, you’re as deranged as David Frum.

  8. I may listen some more later, but from the first bit I listened to, I think he’s making the same basic mistake a lot of TDS sufferers on both sides make – Trump is not a cause but an effect. When the guy says that economic inequality is as bad as it has ever been, that Trump is an existential threat to our democracy, and that without Trump the rancor and divisiveness wouldn’t be as bad as it is, he fails to connect the three things.

Yes, Trump is an existential threat to our democracy, because we’re not supposed to be a democracy. Democracy is mob rule and the tyranny of the majority. It’s why we’re supposed to be a republic with a limited government. As James Madison said, if men were angels they could be trusted with the power of government, but if men were angels they would have no need of government. In the current vernacular, a government powerful enough to give you everything you want is powerful enough to take everything you’ve got. There was a choice to be made and we chose poorly, despite being warned by Madison – you can either choose to have a powerful government in the hopes that it will be run by good men doing good things or accept that power inevitably attracts bad men and choose to have a weak government to prevent that power being turned against you. The government can’t give you anything it doesn’t first take from you, stop asking it to give you stuff.

But here we are, it’s not just economic inequality we’re looking at, it’s social and political and legal inequality as well. The political class in this country and the business class in this country are largely one and the same, and they constitute American royalty, they live by a different set of rules and standards and laws than the rest of us peasants. Everybody knows it and the peasants are getting rebellious. Trump was elected by fighting not only the left and the Democrats, he had to fight the right and the Republicans as well. The Uniparty in Washington, DC, the one who offered the comity of Bush and of Clinton and of Obama and so many others – Boehner, McCain, Ryan, Romney, they’re really all the same – had Trump as the wrecking ball that knocked a hole in their safe little fortress and exposed them to the masses. Trump wasn’t elected *despite* being an outsider, he was elected *because* he was an outsider.

So sure, if not for Trump we wouldn’t have all this unrest, it’s as Joe Biden says about uniting the country against the diviseness of Trump, there would be no unrest with a “normal” President because we’d just be maintaining the status quo of the rich and powerful doing as they pleased and the peasants being ignored as they get trampled underfoot. But now that there’s a large contingent of the Left revealing their end-game of destroying America and the ideals of individualism and replacing it with a communist dictatorship, normal Americans are waking up to the threat and I don’t think we can go back to the old ways. If there is a violent showdown to come, it won’t be a second Civil War, it’ll be a second American Revolution. We’re done with business as usual. Trump is an absolutely disgusting pig of a human being, but far less than everybody else in Washington and you’ve got to tear stuff down before you can build it back up.
