Wuhan Flu

WooOOOOooflu…

Sweden’s path is not living up to the hype. They currently have the highest COVID death rate in the world among reports of inadequate treatment. As for herd immunityImportant COVID19 update today on Sweden, from official press conference: serology survey of ~1100 people from 9 regions during week 18, with sensitivity 98.3% & specificity 97.7% was completed. Age pattern is as expected but seroprevalence is low, alas.

All 50 states are starting to re-open — in contrast to Saskatchewan where rural ER’s remain shuttered by order of a paralyzed Sask Health bureaucracy, while the border to Montana is closed and flights to Montreal remain open.

Another week, another Theresa Tam flip flop on masks.

CDC: “Hold my hand sanitizer”.

  1. Theresa Tam’s ‘considered’ opinion has taken 4 months to gestate. She’s a great person to have in an emergency. I wonder what she’s giving us for Christmas.

    1. Don’t be so nasty….

She tried really hard, and will get a participation ribbon for her efforts!

  2. Nice background music she has playing……for a full fledged certifiable loon.

    1. I watched less than half a minute of it. Did she go on to prescribe wing of bat and eye of newt?

    2. We are stardust, we are golden, we are billion year old carbon,
And we got to get ourselves back to the garden.

Hey lady! Those are ONLY Joni Mitchell lyrics to a song. They aren’t a scienci-type thing. They are words to rock-by… not live by. Well except maybe that part about getting back to a “country” setting … the … “garden”. Yes … that’s a LOT better place to live than in an Urban hellhole.

My diagnosis … wayyyy too much acid.

  3. Re: The story on Sweden. I go to the sources The Telegraph quotes and that is not what I see. Sweden is still doing very well, comparatively. So, what is going on? Save hyperbole aimed at selling fish wrap? The NP today has a couple of columns that are not much better.

And the message from this last link? “Read the data”; the crisis is over and it time for the man from behind the black door to come out and see this. He is welcome to wear his black mask it he wants to; indeed, given how poorly he has performed and his responsibility for the mess the country is now in, it is entirely appropriate.

      1. If you would like an accurate picture you should go to the source:

        https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/09f821667ce64bf7be6f9f87457ed9aa

Click on Avlidna/Dag (Deaths/Day). This chart shows the number of people who died on they day they died, not on the day the death was reported. World o’ Meters and Our World in Data just tabulate the number reported each day by the Country. Sweden may report 100 deaths tomorrow, but that doesn’t mean that 100 people died today. Those deaths were distributed over the previous weeks as it takes time for the data to be tabulated. (Or so I have been given to understand)

You can see this in the Ontario Epidemiological PDF reports as well. select the date and scroll down to find the graph with the deaths.

  4. Not real sure where the Telegraph is getting its death rate numbers from. According to the data at Worldometers, Sweden’s death rate is 380 per million. Belgium is 790 per million, Spain is 596 per million and Italy is 535 per million, UK is 526 per million France is 431 per million. By way of comparison, New York State has a death rate of 1,481 per million and New Jersey at 1,210 per million.

And when you look at the shape of the data from all of those countries you will see they all look very similar in terms of the infection rate and death rate. And what that tells you is that it’s not a “lockdown” or lack of “lockdown” that controls the situation. In other words….the “curve” flattens itself.

    1. Saved me the trouble, I was going to post the same stats. If you remove NY, NJ, and Massive 2 Sh1ts from the US stats, Trump is the greatest leader in the world. But it’s all his fault, not Cuomo or DeBlasio.

    2. You’re right. It was only one week. That was deceptive.

…Sweden has only had the highest death rate over the past week, with Belgium, Spain, Italy, the UK and France, still ahead over the entire course of the pandemic.
State epidemiologist Anders Tegnell, the spokesman for Sweden’s outlier coronavirus strategy, dismissed the figures on Tuesday night arguing that it was misleading to focus on the death toll over a single week…

    3. Ultimately the death rate is a million per million. What do the statisics show about change in how long it takes, and how do we know how much of any change is directly attributable to the Plague of Wuhan?

  5. For me, Florida was never very closed. I continued to work without interruption, and without wearing a mask except inside a Wal-Mart. Restaurants are open again.
I am not dead yet, and I don’t expect to be for at least 20 more years.

    1. Don’t trust Ivison. Every once in a while a column is published in his name that shades Blackie. He must do it in an attempt to give the impression he has a semblance of credibility.
He’s a Scottish socialist, and his columns are just more mediot garbage.
Sure, it’s nice to read TruDOPE and his Fibs get criticism, but when it comes to Ivison, he isn’t sincere

      1. Bingo Dan. He’s been doing the same crap for years. A bit of criticism when it won’t matter. All theatre.

  6. It’s disappointing. Dear Leader’s mask should made of solid heavy vinyl. It also needs to be tightened to the point he stops stealing oxygen.

  7. In a more enlightened time, people like Cuomo’s wife’s “doctor” were burned at the stake, and humanity was probably better off for it.

  8. Masks are great.
    It is an emergency.
Government has declared war on all who produce wealth.
Facial recognition is defeated by proper masking.
Coming out to riot may become compulsory.
Time to start promoting and retailing masks of Justine’s Face.
    Stupid Says,Hide your face!
In the interests of “Saving the Environment” Oust all retards, especially the parasitic kind.
    Ban “Liberal Style” Politicians.
    As in BANISH.

Seeing as how our “dear Leaders” have decided this country is one big prison, this must be the reward they are working for.
Cut ‘er off at North Bay and march the self identifying fellow prisoners East, out of Victoria,Vancouver,Calgary ,Edmonton,Regina and the few other places they cluster..or just insinuate the free lunch days are over and give aways are awaiting them in the Glorious East.
    Shrink the prison state.
    Free the rest.

  9. Crafting onomatopoeia is always a chore. I’m assuming WooOOOOoo is tonal (’cause CHINA!); and, when heard, one would presume that mental illness is implicated.
If correct, given the content of the first video, I would consider this a droll understatement because in reality what I see is WooOOOooowabadawabadawabadadingdong..flu. Done correctly it would need crescendo, decrescendo, and a vinculum.
Bat5h1t crazy would also cover it.

  10. Sweden made the mistake of putting in a toothless travel ban. In other words long term resident status, temporary residence permit or permanent residence permit in Sweden or any other EU member state were NOT banned from entry. Also, the big one…if you have a national visa, no travel ban for you. IOW, the Middle East was free to come and go as they pleased in Sweden…and still can despite the travel “ban” being in effect through June.

Word is, countries like Iran are really getting hammered by the China Pox….because like their other facets of culture, they are still back in the 10th century. Sweden is likely experiencing that wonderful diversity.

  11. Sweden has the highest death rate?

I just checked worldometer and Sweden does not have the highest death rate.

Sweden has 380 deaths per million citizen

    France ; 431/ million

    UK ; 526/ million

    Italy ; 535 / million

    Belgium ; 790 / million

maybe “among those who got inadequate treatment” they have the highest death rate, but isn t that a very unusual way of looking at things?

    1. Current. Read the link.

“According to figures collated by the Our World in Data website, Sweden had 6.08 deaths per million inhabitants per day on a rolling seven-day average between May 13 and May 20.

This is the highest in the world, above the UK, Belgium and the US, which have 5.57, 4.28 and 4.11 respectively.”

      1. the link also says that it does not mean much,

” However, Sweden has only had the highest death rate over the past week, with Belgium, Spain, Italy, the UK and France, still ahead over the entire course of the pandemic.

State epidemiologist Anders Tegnell, the spokesman for Sweden’s outlier coronavirus strategy, dismissed the figures on Tuesday night, arguing that it was misleading to focus on the death toll over a single week….”

for 7 days out of what? 50, 75 , 90 days? (I don t know when they had their first case ) Sweden’s rate was half a percent point (0.5 %) higher than Belgium,
but Sweden’s deaths per million is 50 % lower than that of Belgium.

I think having half as many deaths per million is more significant than the fact that for a very short period of time they had a tiny bit more deaths.

people do not die of covid or cancer or car crashes at a constant rate, there might be a day or a week here and there where there are more deaths, it does not mean much.

once this thing is over, in a few months, then we will know by looking at deaths per million per nation.

      2. And who knows? maybe Sweden counted deaths in a different way in the last 7 days?

that is not such a silly thing to say, when we know that covid19 deaths are not counted the same way everywhere

I could provide all the links but it would take very long

but most know that this is true

The director of the Italian health institute said covid death numbers are very much inflated

and Gateway Pundit has a partial list of those who have admited to over counting covid19 deaths such as New Jersey, Colorado and even the CDC

and here in Quebec the guy in charge ( Arruda) said that many “covid19 deaths” were never tested, never confirmed, were simply counted as covid19 deaths.

we are dealing with two pandemics here

        the first is the covid19

the second is the cheating and lying about how many died of it.

it is pretty bad how many are lying about that.

link to New Jersey admiting they over counted deaths

        https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2020/05/wow-new-jersey-latest-state-significantly-drop-coronavirus-death-tally-5408-4295/?fbclid=IwAR2AV0AOqaYsczdXlB1GTuLjvgTVzSFVRnKmi8W-leKJ8S9bJhAXTLbUFIU

      3. Huh, that’s something like Sweden’s Rape statistics, Wiki 2010 shows that it’s number #3 in the world at 63.5 per 100,000 just below South Africa and Botswana. About double the #4 spot Nicaragua at 31.6/ 100,000.

For comparison Canada is listed as 1.7 per 100,000

For 2020: World Population Review, maintains Sweden at 63.5 rapes per 100,000 and lists it at #6.
        1. South Africa (132.4)
        2. Botswana (92.9)
        3. Lesotho (82.7)
        4. Swaziland (77.5)
        5. Bermuda (67.3)
        6. Sweden (63.5)
        7. Suriname (45.2)
        8. Costa Rica (36.7)
        9. Nicaragua (31.6)
        10. Grenada (30.6)

I’m guessing Sweden’s governance is not a model for western nations to follow.

  12. The article did not report on the seroprevalence of Covid in Sweden. On the Samples was it 5% or 15%?
If Sweden has 3700 deaths on 1.5 million infections then it is a success.

  13. At this rate, if it stays steady for the next 165 days, sweden will hit a death rate of 1 per thousand.

By all means let’s flatten our economies to avoid such an Armageddon.

  14. As was pointed out in the National Review last month – everyone but Sweden is conducing an experiment in performing mass quarantines on the healthy. Sweden’s approach is the only ‘liberal’ (small-l liberal) approach to this. The irony is especially rich when Swedish is supposedly the socialist country that all the progressives want to be like….I don’t hear them asking to be more like Sweden right now.

“This is, in fact, the first time we have quarantined healthy people rather than quarantining the sick and vulnerable. As Fredrik Erixon, the director of the European Centre for International Political Economy in Brussels, wrote in The Spectator (U.K.) last week: “The theory of lockdown, after all, is pretty niche, deeply illiberal — and, until now, untested. It’s not Sweden that’s conducting a mass experiment. It’s everyone else.”

  15. Lies, damn lies, and statistics. “…on a rolling seven day average between…” Cherry picking and deliberately deceiving. The pandemic will ultimately affect many regions in similar numbers yet along different timelines. Wait 6 months and look at the deaths per million in hot spots and we will likely find normalized distribution. To compare one country to another is far too broad to be meaningful. To compare the death rate “this week” of one country vs another is a foolish exercise.
