    1. Curious how much your income from CPP/OAS/GIS has been affected from Covid?

There are many people out there who have lost all of their income.

      1. Hey Allan, have you ever heard the word inflation. Well son that is what reduces the purchasing power of everyone’s retirement benefits. I have been retired on my own dime for over 20 years and I made enough money to do that based on cost projections for twenty years adding a modest percentage for inflation and yet year after year the governments both federal and provincial have added to the cost of living. The province by borrowing and spending that which they do not have and the federal by doing the same and printing money to cover debt. Inflation for those who actually follow such things is running conservatively ate 5 to 6 % annually. Pay no attention to the federal numbers because like the SARS-CoV-2 they are bogus.

  1. Unfortunately, it looks like there are two theories that are incorrect,
    A. Epidemics follow a roughly 70 day cycle of growth, peak, and decline.
    https://www.timesofisrael.com/top-israeli-prof-claims-simple-stats-show-virus-plays-itself-out-after-70-days/

    B. That like the Flu, this virus will naturally decline to nothing as Summer approaches. The Flu has been officially declared over here in Minnesota, but Chinese Coronavirus is going gangbusters still.

  2. I see Bryan Adams is being excoriated for wrongthink:

“Tonight was supposed to be the beginning of a tenancy of gigs at the @royalalberthall, but thanks to some f–king bat eating, wet market animal selling, virus making greedy bastards, the whole world is now on hold,”
“My message to them other than ‘thanks a f–king lot’ is go vegan.”

Bryan Adams’s Instagram post draws rebukes from Chinese-Canadian organization, social media users

Note that the cowardly CBC is not allowing comments on this story…

  3. Heh, who’s up for some new death stats: Excess deaths from staying at home.

    Snippits:
Thousands Of Brits Are Dying At Home Due To The Lockdown

It’s a similar story in Italy, where there have already been 11,600 excess deaths due to seriously sick people avoiding hospitals.

As we previously highlighted, a data analyst consortium in South Africa found that the economic consequences of the country’s lockdown will lead to 29 times more people dying than the coronavirus itself.

  4. “It’s unclear whether anyone would be available to investigate the questionable cases, anyway.” Re: EI or CERB payments, this is the sensible route to go, no sense cutting a bunch of people off to catch a few who might be gaming the system. CRA moves SO slowly it would take years before some cases are investigated.

  5. Last time I was in Montreal about 98% of the store front windows were filthy.

I still havent heard one good reason why the government couldnt issue interest-free loans. Besides the obvious vote buying…

  6. So we’re … “opening our country up too soon” … because … “we’re seeing more cases when we thought we would be tapering off”.

Yet, aren’t we testing more and more and more? Doesn’t THAT fact alone, regardless of opening or not opening make the most significant impact to … uggh … “the data”. And what OF these new “cases” of CHICOM-19? Are they active cases? Are hospitalizations going up? Is the “curve” spiking (Hint: we never flattened it).

Show me the EVIDENCE that the act of opening … and not the fact of more testing … has led to an increase in “cases”. I’m sorry … but incomplete and crude “data” is being horribly misused (as it has been from the beginning of this political pandemic) to criticize American Freedom, American Values, and the American Economy.

We are setting ourselves up for a “Little Boy who Cried Wolf” disaster. Politicizing the “data” to suit political goals (damage Trump) … is cynical and corrosive.

    1. Kenji, crap data and crap projections is why we are where we are. I doubt you will see the “cry wolf” scenario because most people are “true believers”. I re-read that and am not sure if it is sarcasm or something completely different.

      1. No. I wasn’t intending sarcasm … The more hype … erroneous data and science … will eventually dull the public’s senses … in the way that every new “study” which suggests coffee causes cancer, err prevents cancer, err causes strokes, err prevents strokes, err causes kidney failure, err … Nevermind … we just don’t listen anymore. We just don’t care … only the media care

    2. In Dear Leader Prinz Dummkopf the Supremely Magnificent’s case, any situation with the virus which might mean that he’ll have to go back to work (because is safe to do so) is reason enough to continue the grand national house arrest. That way, he can continue sitting on his backside and show fake leadership.

  7. We’ll see if Trudeau just makes the $2,000 / month permanent and give it to everyone (guaranteed income). It will be hard for him to stop it and I’m guessing he likes it. People entitled to their entitlements.

  8. PS … why is it that all restaurants have been shut down … but the San Francisco gay bath houses remain open? Tinder remains open. Match.com remains open. Grindr remains open? Why hasn’t the Federal, State, and County HEALTH Agencies pulled the plug on these Social CONNECTING sites … while everyone else has been told to Socially distance?

And then the absolute WORST POSSIBLE “advice” coming from the nation’s “premiere pandemic medical expert” Dr. Fauci … recommends you roll the dice on Tinder! Seriously … What the Holy F*ck!?

      1. I have a friend who wanted to visit their mother’s grave at Easter. They were prevented by a guard. They tried again on Mother’s Day. Same result.
I don’t recall the “flattening the curve” crowd mentioning that visiting a grave in the great outdoors was going to fill the hospitals with Wuhan Flu cases.

        Who makes decisions like that?

  9. No matter if the topic is GDP, illiteracy, corruption, teen pregnancies, school dropouts, drownings ( I am not kidding , more drownings in backyard swiming pools than other provinces ) or covid19 cases,

the province of Quebec often has the worst numbers in Canada

    adscam was a quebec scandal

    SNClavalin was a quebec scandal

covid numbers are far worse in Quebec

Is it any wonder I often hesitate to mention I am a Quebecer?

    1. Canadian Friend, I almost hesitated to say this but I usually just jump right in, both feet. Could it possibly be that Quebeckers are far more free than the rest of Canada? Inquiring minds want to know. There must be an AP for that?

      1. more free? not sure what you mean.

they are more carefree, that they certainly are, but more free I don t know

  10. A very good article with Kari Stefansson the CEO of the Icelandic company deCODE genetics in Reykjavík, which has studied the spread of COVID-19 in Iceland with Iceland’s Directorate of Health and the National University Hospital. Iceland, as a lot of people know, have done extensive testing, and being an island nation they really clamped down on arrivals testing them and isolating/quarantining extensively.

I found this statement to be very encouraging:

“Children under 10 are less likely to get infected than adults and if they get infected, they are less likely to get seriously ill. What is interesting is that even if children do get infected, they are less likely to transmit the disease to others than adults. We have not found a single instance of a child infecting parents.”

    https://www.sciencemuseumgroup.org.uk/hunting-down-covid-19/

    1. That is very encouraging news … but it also angers me. Angers me that we aren’t getting THAT kind of DETAILED “data”. Instead we get nothing but what I term … “blunt instrument data”. Instead of going after this viral pandemic (if it is) with a scalpel … or laser! … we’re hacking away with an 1865 bone saw.

      1. Kenji, Kenji, Kenji, you of all people do know that the narrative has to be maintained, no matter how much truth is suppressed or how much fraud is needed. That the fatality rate is two tenths of one percent for world wide cases just cannot be a part of the narrative, no way, no how.
