    I had to read it during high school and I wasn’t particularly impressed, but, then, I wasn’t drawn to Bradbury’s works as much as I was to those of Arthur C. Clarke.

      1. I have never been a sci fan fan, but I did read The Martian Chronicles in high school. It was one of the few books I had to read that I actually liked.

        1. Bradbury always wanted to go to Mars. Since he wouldn’t be able to do so during his lifetime, he hoped that he might be buried there. He joked that since he wasn’t going to be the first live man on Mars, he wanted to be the first dead one.

          He was lifelong friends with Hollywood stop-action animation wizard Ray Harryhausen. “The Two Rays”, as they called themselves, met as members of a science fiction club. As it turned out, they helped make at least one movie together. The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms was based on a Bradbury story while Harryhausen provided the visual effects.

            Unfortunately, I see the same thing happening in the apartment complex where I live. The Chinese have been slowly moving in and taking over the place. There’s at least one Chinese speaker in the rental office to act as a translator.

            It seems that at least half the tenants now are from over there and they act like they own the place. I’ll be moving out once I’m done settling my father’s estate. I can’t wait for that to happen.

            I never thought I’d ever see the day in which I’m a stranger in my own country.

I never in my life thought that we would be considered government chattel, but here we are.     2. NR I have posted this many times. China has 1.4B mouths to feed. They have 7% of the arable land and 6% of the potable water. The Belt and Road Imitative was built for a reason. Two fold. Military and trade. None of this is going to end well. They do not care if they lose 200M of their people. It means nothing. The next step is war. Which we are already in, the bioweapon is part of that war. Most of the US navy’s carrier group is out of action right now with the virus.           Growing up quarantines happened all the time, but the local doctor would quarantine a house and family. There were many epidemics etc and not once did they lock down whole nations all over the world. If you or a family member got sick with a contagious disease. You and your family got quarantined.
          And I agree we are at war. It is a resource war. China can not feed her people. We are like vermin to be exterminated. The whole climate change scam is part of this, like Kate used to point out, they want you dead. Anyway, I feel bad that you read all my posts, some are just nonsense and rantings.
          But anyway here is a link for you about 5th Gen War. I first starting reading about this concept a couple of years ago, it came out of the Iraqi Wars.
          And think Chinese Belt and Road. China is directly linked by rail right to London England. The Belt and Road is dual purpose trade and war. Many of the Chinese outposts along the belt and road are Chinese Military Outposts and Infrastructure.

            This WhuFlu is a nasty thing that could’ve been prevented. Yes, I agree, Wuhan City should’ve been isolated. That is what prevents an epidemic from becoming a pandemic. Pretty simple stuff. Standard protocol.

        Old Maoists have the power to do stupid shit even when everyone knows the shit is stupid. That’s what makes the basic dictatorship so admirable to stupid shits.

        China need not start a shooting war until other measures (like buying off hordes of politicians, destroying the industries, and spreading disease) have done most of the heavy lifting.

        The National Review article dismissing this is from 2006, based on what was observable in 2006. What we can observe now is closer to the contents of the speech than to the National Review article.

    5. This kind of thinking, and the war that comes from it, is the inevitable result of their political beliefs. They appear to be trying to blend Marx with mercantilism, and both philosophies necessitate war for economic reasons. I can not imagine the mix ending well for anyone.

          He said the “CPC have killed 4000 Canadians” and that Canada’s response was “disgraceful”.

  29. One retail to avoid shopping at, no matter how tempting, would be so-called dollar stores with all their cheap crap from China. We know they are not alone, we need to take the time to check where stuff we buy is coming from. I’m guessing a lot of stores would have empty shelves if all stock made in China were removed.

        However, my canine “stepbrother” didn’t think so. A year and a half ago, I gave him a pair of squeakies as a birthday present. I bought them at a Dollarama close to where I live in Edmonton and, yes, they were made over there.

        He particularly liked one of them and he consistently played with it while we were at my house in B. C. The squeaker didn’t last long, but that didn’t stop him from wanting me to play “fetch” with it. He absolutely loved it, regardless of its condition.

    2. First three digits of the barcode are 690 to 695 for China manufactured products. I’ve also seen 690 to 699 referred to.

      This is just for items manufactured in China, assembly somewhere else may have that country’s barcode starter.

      Leave the chinese stuff on the shelf and the retailers will stop buying it.
