A document from 2014 shows that when Ebola was threatening the country, the Harper government put extensive planning into place on how to handle it if an outbreak showed up.
There were 28 hospitals across the country designated as “Ebola Hospitals” specifically to treat any cases that appeared. There were plans on how to transport cases to these hospitals, plans on how to ensure these hospitals were properly equipped and plans for travellers who might be of concern.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg.

And a whole warehouse ( likely multiple – I am only privy to knowing of one for certain) of protective medical gear that was stockpiled for 10 years after SARS was mismanaged and had to be destroyed. This is in addition to what was sent China. Of course it was some other countries fault we didn’t have an adequate supply of masks.

While Harper had moments of comparative competence he never really took the opportunity to address the real problem, and perhaps the problem has eclipsed repair at this moment in time.
