When Life Gives You Snow

Make snow pictures.

Our average high at this time of year is 7.3°C.

But in Saskatchewan, “average” is just a mathematical calculation that reduces the possible extremes to a single imaginary point.

  1. I remember when I lived in the Brooks area during the mid-1980s. I was coming back from Calgary one afternoon around this time of year when I saw what seemed to be smoke on the horizon. As I drove closer, I saw that it was dust stirred up by a farmer in his tractor getting his fields ready for seeding.

Some 35 years later, it’s freezing and we still have lots of snow.

Must have been “climate change”. Raise the carbon tax!

  2. 1,000 years from now a climatologist will find my poop scoops still leaning against the fence beneath a receding glacier and use it as evidence that the earth is warming.

  3. Looks at picture of snow. Looks out window at Superstition Mountain, all nicely greened up in the sunshine.

    Heh.

Double “heh”. The captcha image was palm trees.

  4. Kate… I admire your basic artistry

Actually far more than “basic”. You have a great “eye” … and “ear”. That’s a beautiful image. Perhaps you will find employment working for your PM’s new Canada-WPA ? During the transition to Democratic *gag* Socialism. Of course your PM will prioritize WORK for Artists and Journalists ? Oh … sorry … you might just be the “wrong” kind of these things

  5. Just got finished dealing with about 2 inches (5cm) of fluffy globull warming pixie dust from the driveway, sidewalk and vehicles.
Now time to take the H2 Hummer out for a food run and try to get the temps up and get back to building that Ring Road! Been a long time in getting called back to work, but it’s just around the corner!!

    1. Git er done Galcierman…!! what part are ya workin on..??
We live in Walden..been watching the McLeod Tr interchange develop. It will be awesome when complete…and bloody well long long overdue.

      1. Worked on backfilling the McLeod Trail interchange bridges and east up to Spruce Meadows and then the bridge on Glenmore Trail over the Elbow River two seasons ago. Last year, worked the abutments for the bridges from the Grey Eagle Casino west on Glenmore out past Elbow Valley G&CC , and south all the way to Anderson.

That is going to be an amazing highway system, it’s so quick getting south from Sarcee to 22X even with all the construction. So fun to wind the vehicles up on those wide open, freshly paved roads!!! (Don’t tell the boss)!!!

  6. 5 cm this AM at my house in Calgary.

Meanwhile Notley’s wonderful windmills are operating at 4.5% of capacity.

  7. Nice picture. In YYC it’s still February with no end in sight. Best to embrace the suck.

    1. No Guff – speaking of the Finns, we’ve been enjoying Finnish and Swedish TV series, via our Smart TV. Our favourite is ‘Robo’ – a long running police precinct series, which is quite realistic, with excellent character development and humour. I recommend it.

  8. Real heavy frost here this am. Snow forecast a day or two from now. This has been the norm for April in eastern Ontario for at least five years now. I used to come back from Florida and look forward to playing golf through part of April, unfortunately global warming has made that impossible. One round last April and a couple in the previous years. This year of course the government locked me in and our course is not allowed to open. looks like I have survived the quarantine, unless I die from heart failure overnight. Again I say to my fellow panic stricken Canadians, get over it and get out.

  9. We had a heavy snowfall that has not yet melted away but it is a blessed 10C, the sun is shining and I have put my pansy bedding plants out in my mini greenhouse for the afternoon. Freezing rain in the forecast for tonight. Now off for a walk with my dog.

  10. With your head in an oven and your feet in a freezer “on average”, you should be comfortable.

  11. Another meter of fresh snow in the Sierras fell over the weekend; scattered snow squalls persist today (and rains wander the Central Valley).

These late-season storms have been an incredible blessing from above for our agriculture, rafting (fingers crossed) and commercial/residential consumption for the rest of this year. The ski areas are also in excellent shape–however they all remain closed/off limits due to Covid-19. Grrr.

    Stay healthy, all.

  12. When life gives you snow. Heh
The headers alone are worth stopping for.
Seriously shutting down the economy could be the tipping point bringing on catastrophic refrigeration.

  13. Seeing that self-isolating has a duration of 14 days, why are we now told to stay inside? (There are conflicting reports , depending on the source.)
