“In the midst of this festival of frivolity, harsh reality landed in Europe”

With an intro by Sarah Hoyt;

Let me put this into small bite-size ideas: Globalism, of the sort that assumes there are no real differences between cultures and that totalitarian regimes are as trustworthy as non-dictatorial regimes, is a luxury. It is the luxury of those so wealthy and pampered they can afford to ignore reality and live in make-believe. In centuries past it was the luxury of the very few and very wealthy. Briefly, for a shining moment in history, all of the West could afford to be that stupid.

  1. Europe is unlikely to recover. The Covid-19 crisis simply comes on top of all the other divisions which have torn part policy coherence in the EU. I’m not going to list them all, as everyone here should have at least some familiarity with the full list. But the EU’s willingness to throw Italy under the bus shows how worthless the EU’s commitment is to collective security in any way, shape or form. All of this isn’t aided by the fact that:
    1. Germany does not have coherent leadership to follow Angela Merkel;
    2. France has a government in which a large proportion of its population is in revolt against it including some of its principal public services;
    3. much of Eastern Europe is in open policy revolt against Brussels, and
    4. Britain, one of the two nuclear weapon states within the EU has now fled the sinking ship.

    Yeats said it best in The Second Coming: “Things fall apart, the centre cannot hold;”

  2. But isn’t this what they asked for?
    You know?
    “How dare you!”
    She lectured the world about its consumption habits and demanded that it end immediately.
    Now they get what they asked for.
    After the all clear is given, then the bill arrives.
    It isn’t going to be pretty.

  3. Related alright.

    McKenna, the queen of hypocrites (Justin couldn’t have the title forever) as a perfect representative for all the putrid stupidity of the European Union.

    1. I replied to her tweet asking if her head rattled when she shook it but for some reason she has not answered.

  4. McKenna’s my MP.
    She was overwhelmingly voted back into power.
    She claims to be a fiscal conservative.
    I claim she’s a Full Retard.

    As for the European Union, that’s nothing a good old fashioned war can’t fix.

      1. Hopefully North America will have the sense to stay out of said war.

        If USA had not intervened in WW1 probably would have been no WW2

    1. You are missing the point, Buddy. Ottawa Centre always elects leftists completely off the wall. The last MPs from Ottawa Centre since the mid-1980s were Michael Cassidy, Mac Harb, Ed Broadbent, Paul Dewar and Catherine McKenna. All of them essentially as far left in their respective parties as one could get. Ottawa Centre is just that kind of place. Every major city in Canada has these kinds of neighborhoods and always will.

  5. If we want to save anything, we will need to get rid of the idiots in charge. Not only politicians but the unaccountable senior civil servants.
    Climate Barbie’s BS note on Twatter makes it absolutely essential we do this. Otherwise we may as well enjoy the future of peasant servitude.

  6. Canada is a microcosm of the EU. Both are a federation of quasi-independent and disparate regimes with a couple of “special” regimes that mater more. The advanced level of socialism and related sociological toxicity ensures decline is the only way forward. Both are essentially corrupt and bankrupt welfare states with faux leaders concentrating on cultural nihilism as diversions from the reality that the game is over but most of the population is too dumbed-down and or state-dependent to notice or care. People who, under saner circumstances would be barely qualified for minimum wage service sector employment are victorious at popularity contest elections with the worst now fuhrers of state and responsible for creating multi-billion to trillion dollar liabilities. Past expectations that the state is the solution to the problems from previous actions of the state repeated ad infinitum is not only the definition of insanity, it’s all but universally believed and a paradigm of today’s received wisdom.

  7. Canadians are very stupid and ill informed – and want to stay that way, it’s not clear yet that Canadians will learn anything from this pandemic.

    For years we have had the great fortune of living right beside the country with the greatest economy ever due to its values of freedom and hard work, we could afford to be irresponsible children, and that will be a hard thing to change.

    The people of our post-nation state may be better off as citizens of three or four nations that will actually look out for their best interests since our federal government has abdicated that responsibility.

    Justin Trudeau is a disgrace, a disgusting human being beholden to China who is still not making an effort to protect real Canadians, his preference for “new Canadians” who he knows will infect real Canadians demonstrates where his true allegiance lies, his post-nation dreams can come true. He’s despicable.

    1. Mark Twain said that while the legislature is in session no man’s purse is safe.

  9. ” Europeans now miss having competent governments, cohesive civil societies, responsible economic administrations, and citizens capable of giving their lives for others — that is to say, citizens with values. The same values that were deliberately excluded in the European Constitution in order to please the extreme left-wing secularists.

    L- Europe’s history is of a legion of heroes founding and defending her nascent nation-states. Willing to give all it would take, in the service of family, shire, kingdoms and the foundational values of Christendom. How many flags in Europe and the U.K. have crosses in them?

    Relevance ? Erdogan, would be Ottoman Caliph, has gov’t. forces arming/backing a mass invasion of North African Islamists already beginning to overwhelm the Greek border defences. A second wave of hijra will put Europe into open civil war, not the low level one on now. Wuhan virus is their first weapon, chaos their first goal, smuggling routes already well established into West. Europe, arms caches awaiting.

    Turkey has, by far, the largest, best armed forces in Europe. Millions of hostiles already reside in Western Europe.
    Can European nations fight a war on two fronts, biologically & militarily? Have they the will of the legion of heroes?

    Is the story below WWI or closer to the Ottoman the historic hijra invasions of Europe from 700-1683? Is the timing tactical or a co-incidence ?

  10. Oddly enough reports are now coming in that overall death rates are falling this past winter, in both Europe and the U.S., speculation is that other deadly flu outcomes are being positively affected by the precautions taken for COVID-19 and also of course death rates on the roads would probably be lower. So one could argue that COVID-19 is saving lives. It’s just the optics of the clusters of deaths from COVID-19 being visible while the saved lives are of course untraceable and therefore non-reportable. Would this in and of itself be an argument for ending the lockdown and social distancing? Possibly not, but I think the time is going to have to come sooner rather than later to go to a more rational plan B where we target the infection’s most damaging spread, and allow the wider economic normalcy to return. Otherwise, I am not sure that we can take four or five months of these social programs without leading to economic collapse, and that is a very large price to pay for the relatively minor positive consequences of staying totally locked down. Probably the end of April needs to be the end point for this phase of the response, and hopefully better treatment and testing would be up and running by then too.

    1. It will be interesting to see effect of not applying social distancing or commercial or religious services lock downs in the no-go zones in Europe. Police are afraid/unable to enforce. Sure, the general age level is low and mostly not overweight but probably high percentage of smokers.

      One could expect worse than rest of country outcomes bc won’t obey rules followed by more “youth” riots bc nobody protected them from themselves.

  11. Ha! so now we know why Germany seems to have so few cases.
    I wonder how long they will be able to hide reality.

  12. He who laughs last, laughs best.

    In the bosom of Abraham, Slobodan Milosevic, the only genuine leader Europe has produced since the fall of the Berlin Wall, is laughing well.

    Did you know that the Yugoslavs stopped an Albanian Muslim from re-introducing smallpox to Europe? Now you do.

    They did it by closing Yugoslavia’s borders and locking down ethnic Albanian villages and neighbourhoods until the virus was contained. Only 35 lives were lost.

    Naturally, Yugoslavia never gets credit for saving the world from a smallpox pandemic because they were mean to Muslims or something.

  13. Globalism, of the sort that assumes there are no real differences between cultures and that totalitarian regimes are as trustworthy as non-dictatorial regimes, is a luxury.

    As a European, I need to object this framing.

    There are two truths revered. If conservatives say China / Russia / Iran / Iraq, or people from there do badly, that must be driven by racism, and they will as a revenge side with China / Russia / Islam. If a left-winger criticizes what happens in say, Hungary, Poland, Greece, that means there are racists in there, and again they will side, now against the government there.

    They don’t actually trust dictatorial regimes or islamists, but they find an easier enemy from people who say blunt truths about FGM happening in our country or lying of the Chinese government. They find the enemy near, making themselves vulnerable to not seeing forest from the trees. They see the truth only in the strict absence of conservatives. Which makes it very difficult, as by bringing certain topics to discussion, you are already branded as a conservative.

    “Oh, you don’t like killing babies? It means you are conservative, so you are evil. => I need to speak for killing babies”

  14. Didn’t those 12 years until the end of the world go quickly ? Europeans on Covid Island bask in the sunshine of vacant minds.
