  23. Statistics on this garbage are unreliable. My county in the US is on lockdown (total population of 420,000)….only 3 new cases identified in the last 48 hours. Part of the problem is that during flu season a large portion of the populace acquires the virus, but doesn’t exhibit symptoms because their own immunity is sufficient to keep it in check. It’s part of evolution. Hence, even in a normal year, a good slice of America has a virus/ flu. The only difference is that the “Barnum and Bailey” show isn’t in full swing and we aren’t bending over backwards with a “magnifying glass” looking for it.

    Oh, and about that lockdown. Also, nonsense. If this were a true threat, and there was a true concern do you think the mail service would continue unabated? I mean, if you want to transport germs from one place to another…lick an envelope and send it. Grocery stores…open. Pharmacies open. Take out restaurants…open. Lockdown? Ummm…no….more like a vacation with minimal detriments.

    You know that old saw;”Never corner a frightened man”,it seems absurd to hysterically spread fear of our ancient foe,”Pestilence” ,and then have no apparent plan to deal with it.
    Hospitals had no reserve capacity before this started and there is precious little evidence of health departments preparing as it progressed.
    Human Nature being what it is,I expect some rather Ugly entertainment in the coming weeks.
    However a quick,accurate and cheap test will do wonders for public moral.
    If we can confirm that;
    We Do not have it.
    Have already had it.
    Who does have it.
    We can act with confidence,getting our lives back on track.
    Without that no amount of prattle from these current “leaders” will convince anyone we are in good hands,nor what the true state of affairs is.
    Either they are as incompetent as their past record has led us to believe,or their malice is deep.

    This page is updated daily, and I have been following it for about a week.

    Yesterday’s numbers:
    Total tested so far: 49,186
    Test results not known: 7,203
    Known test results: 49186-7203 = 41,283
    Tested negative: 40,630
    Tested Positive: 1,326 1,326/40,630 = 3.2% infection rate

    Now, I have visited this page daily, and run these numbers (they don’t provide the infection rate, I have to calculate that), and I have not seen an infection rate above 3.6%, nor below 2.5%.

    If this disease were so virulent, I’d expect to see the infection rate rising. It isn’t.
    And I’m going to put this in caps, because it’s important:

    IN ONTARIO, THEY ARE ONLY TESTING PEOPLE WITH SYMPTOMS. THAT MEANS THE 3% INFECTION RATE IS FOUND IN SAMPLES THAT ARE CLEARLY WEIGHTED TOWARDS SICK PEOPLE.
    The general population probably has a much lower rate.

    And for anecdotal data, my brother was at a hospital in Ottawa on Friday. He called it a ‘ghost town’. On Facebook today, I saw a video from Vancouver, where a guy snuck into a hospital. Again, a ghost town.

    If this disease “is threatening our capacity to respond”, why are the hospitals empty?

  30. I take no comfort from the fact that Canada’s infection rate appears to be less than our friends in America. The US is our closest most trusted friend.

    It’s so Canadian to gloat or boast while watching the US suffer. What crap.
