Of course, the paid days at home will not use up any of their already generous vacation-day or sick-day allowances. When after many months of paid time at home and not working they do go back to the office, they can immediately go on vacation, or on paid sick leave, to keep the good times rolling.

  13. There are more and more reports in the news of companies redirecting their operations and their employees to help in the fight against the pandemic. Will Canada’s massive government bureaucracies be able to redirect their operations and employees similarly? Or will the powerful public sector unions prevent this from happening by saying that the “new” work (i.e. work required in the Covid-19 emergency) is not in the employee’s job description and so the union will not let the employee do the “new” work. Even if the government employee is being paid to stay home and is not doing his/her “old” work, I am betting that the employee will never be forced to do the “new” work .

    Taxpayers pay them, and pay them well, but in the end government employees don’t have any real obligation to do the work taxpayers really need them to do.

    The correct response is “Better them than us. Most of those countries are overpopulated anyway.”

    May I suggest that there are a lot of airlines with idle aircraft that could be put to work right now deporting illegal immigrants at very low cost—especially the ones with fevers and coughs, who will take up beds that could be used by Americans.

    1. These fixtures have been around for years. It all comes down to cost. On a side note the McGinty govt. issued a dictate that the maximum temperature for domestic hot water must be reduced from 140.F. to 120.F. The temperature range for the propagation of Legionella is from 95.F. to 120.F. How many homes are storing Legionella soup in their basements.

        Installing PVC piping instead of copper is also a lot quicker. Cut the pipe to length, brush on some glue, put into place, and presto! job’s done. Just wait a few minutes before using while the glue sets.

        Copper, on the other hand, involves not just cutting it to length but also soldering with a Bernzomatic torch. The latter can be trickier and messier than using PVC.

        I’ve got all copper piping and fittings in my house. It was built in the early 1960s and that was all that was available back then.

The hit to our economy isn’t enough, he’ll just keep printing money like the Weimar Republic and hand it out to people and countries who are in their situations because of their own corruption, no problem.     The government testing is on par with the government reported reduction in crime,because people have stopped reporting property crimes to a police force who do nothing and make it plain they are inconvenienced by having to accept your report.
    Ditto testing for the Wuhan Flu,only under conditions specified,do we get tested…In other words,if it is widespread already,we will never know,because most of us will have little or no symptoms and most of us are not fresh back from China, nor connected to someone who is.

    It will become apparent what is really happening,but so far the information supply is a complete cluster.
    Big government is quite happy telling us where to go and what to do,yet not one of them can be held accountable for their failure to perform the jobs they were paid to do.

    They are all viruses, and the yearly flue should also be called a pandemic, as more that 500,000 people globally die of it every year.
    1000 people die of H1N1 (swine flue) before Obama even flinched.
    This is not a World Wide Pandemic, but a World Wide Swindle, much like 911 was, where our civil liberties were severely curtailed.
    So what if some famous person dies of this flu, he is not more important than any one else that has died of the flu.
