Wuhan Flu: Heads Up

Update: This just came across the feeds, and it’s gut wrenching if accurate. (It may also explain why the Canadian government did an about face on foreign entry.)

      1. Good news – the deadline for filing taxes is now 1st June. Even better, the deadline to pay off any outstanding balances interest -free will be extended to 31st July.

      2. Davis – they’re not due out until 31st March. Have a CA daughter involved with processing same for her firm (not certain just why), and they’re hampered because often the entities they’re having to file T3’s for have investments in other entities which themselves produce T3’s.

However, do look hard at any slip you are given and attempt to figure out how the figures were produced. First tax return of the season, and the T5008 the client gave me did seriously NOT match with the T5008 CRA had on record. Still trying to resolve this. In my many years of doing tax returns, have seen a lot of bad slips. Usually it’s T4’s but can be other slips.

  1. Way ahead of you Mr Lilley, I stocked up on nicotine vape juice today, longest lineup I’ve ever seen in the vape store.

    1. The LCBO is still open, with unreduced hours.

I’ll believe this is finally being taken seriously when the LCBO and the pot shops close their doors in the interest of public order.

As it is, civil servants are still free to stock up on booze and weed so they can spend the next three months “working from home” blitzed out of their cerebellums.

It remains to be seen if anybody will notice. People who work for a living will be too busy convincing landlords not to evict them and banks not to foreclose on them.

      1. The management of my apartment cut back on office hours as a “precautionary” measure. Personally, I think it’s an excuse to cut back on office hours, period.

It also closed the gym and pool facilities “until further notice”, but it couldn’t get enough people from a certain part of the world as tenants, many of whom travelled freely between here and their home country.

      2. “when the LCBO and the pot shops close their doors in the interest of public order”

The LCBO are Union shops the pot shops are not. Tell me when the Unions are concerned about the dues they get.

  2. So I see the list of essential businesses for the SF lockdown. If it’s the same deal here, looks like I still gotta go to work.

  3. Watching Tucker Carlson. Just had a guest who suggested that all US debt owned by the Chinese be cancelled as the fine for causing COVID 19.

    1. It wouldn’t even scratch the surface.
That said, may I refer you to the Treaty of Versailles. The punitive nature of the Treaty, in terms of reparations, caused WWII.

      1. Since November, 20,000,000 people have died of all causes. ( 150 million/yr/worldwide )

        7,000 Cov-19. = 0.035% of all deaths.

The other 99.965% of people, 19, 993,000, died of something else.

  4. The twats of Twitter blame Boris Johnson when it’s obvious in the thread that it was Ministry of Health officials who screwed up.
Ah to be an all-knowing progressive.

  5. In regards to Lilley, a connection of ours has a connection in Tory’s office, one of those friend of a friend of a friend of a friend. Apparently, tomorrow or the next day, Ford will shut down Ontario, and possibly Trudeau soon after will shut down the country for all but the most essential needs, groceries, doctors.
How that will be enforced? Your guess as good as mine.
    Think Checkpoints.

    1. I’d say it’s tomorrow. There’s been no leaks about what tomorrow’s announcement is. You don’t leak anything when you’re about to lock everything down.

    2. “and possibly Trudeau soon after will shut down the country for all but the most essential needs, groceries, doctors.
      How that will be enforced?”

Ridiculous. If Trudeau is being the Little Bitch and Hiding away during this crisis and his Cabinet Ministers are LYING to us and telling us that closed borders and air travel are inefficient, the their freakin’ numbers are excellent, while the Prime Minister is self-isolating, all the while making themselves safe when the rest of us are put in peril by importing Plague Monkeys from 3rd World Shitholes then compliance with what the government wants or commands is not going to happen.

Until the Motherless sons of Pigs are on the Front Lines shaking the hands of the Plague Monkeys as they debark at our Airports the deserve no respect or compliance.

They should be hunted down by mobs with torches pitchforks and piano wire.

  6. More BS from the globalists trying to drive Trump’s economy (and the world’s – but that’s just necessary collateral) further into depression… they want this SO bad.

What they dont understand is that he’ll still win the next election in a landslide. Fools.

    1. He will. They can’t stop him. But they will kill millions and ruin millions more trying.

The grown-ups will bury their dead, square their shoulders, and re-elect Donald Trump. Because they will know who is responsible for this, and it isn’t the president.

    2. Also Kate, “if accurate”?. How in the world could NO ONE in the UK have seen this obvious “mistake”. Answer, because there was no mistake. They just need to spreadmore BS “predictions” to drive the economy further in the hole, hoping that people will hand over their money and control of everything to the globalist gang, because the elected leaders have “failed”. Nothing about the REAL numbers add up to anything even close to their catastrophic predictions.

This is the climate hoax times ten, because that’s not working well or fast enough, even with all their worldwide puppets pushing it, including their latest attempt, the little mental girl.
They’re going ALL IN here. Wake up people.

  7. While I remain very concerned about what seems to be the inevitable course(s) these viruses will take. The most unsettling thing is the hoarding and the empty shelves; followed by the sickness and the dying. I won’t go into detail regarding the perpetrators, but these are not stock citizens or people of lesser means. And they’re definitely not the type to lend a helping hand. They are, hands down, the ugliest form humanity has ever taken.

  8. If you actually prepared for being locked down for three months or longer, be aware that as they wear on, looters will become a bigger threat to you than the virus, once those who did not prepare slowly realize that they can’t eat bank-confetti, food doesn’t grow in grocery stores, and all the “fiscal stimulus” in the world won’t re-stock shelves.

By all accounts, sales of ammo are brisk in the States. If you have a gun and know how to use it—and are prepared to do so in defense of home, hearth and kin—tomorrow would be a good day to stock up.

  9. Medium Term effects: Oil Prices!

The economies of North America and Western Europe are essentially running at about 60% speed. How much oil is not going to be consumed in the next three months. How much do you think oil prices will drop further? A little? A lot?

$30 a bbl. is it a bargain? Or too high?

    1. WTI below $30 and WCS at $16, at 60% WTI below $20 would seem to be on the horizon.

Sucks terribly to be a little fish in an over-producing pond with the #endalloil folks ruling our country. They’ll find a way to spin it to shut down Canada’s largest export.

  10. SAD Times in Canada… They overreach LATE … Have a friend in Saskatchewan who was denied access to his dying wife in hospital.. Sick Bull shit… The Communists have lost control and they are done…. The virus is not as deadly as the Swine (so said my Eye Surgeon in Arizona today) The Music has stopped & there is an opportunity to eliminate all the Corruption in Society… Nancy you belong back sucking the Chrome off Trailer Hitches @ Ocean City.. MD

    1. Eliminate all the University Administration… They are Communist activists that provide nothing of Value.

    2. Eliminate all PHD’s who are SJW… They provide nothing of Value….Bought & paid for Communists

3 University MUST be adapted to On-Line instruction with AI tracking. No more Idiots buying PhD’s

Its a absolute Opportunity to deep six Brussels… bastards the lot

  11. Gas prices in Winnipeg are plunging. I was in two grocery stores today neither of which had any milk left of any kind.

  12. The British Coronavirus Model was wrong, so the Government including Boris Johnson should all hang!!!

Global Warming Apocalypse Models have been wrong for thirty years, but they tell us
the WORLD WILL END IN TWELVE YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. I’m a correctional officer and the inmates at the jail I work at are getting ALL of their news from the MSM. They’re being told that 70% of the country will become infected. Many of them are under the impression that one day soon, there will be no one coming in to relieve the night shift, no one to unlock them into the day area and that they will simply be left to starve and rot in their cells. So one can imagine how precarious things are in here and what a proverbial knife’s edge it is walking this beat.

Sooner or later, one jail or correctional centre is going to erupt, and when that does, word travels fast and like a tinderbox, so goes the rest. That is, unless it is decided that they are to get some form of amnesty and let many of them out early or the courts will clear much of the dockets. Just in time for the festivities to come. Just great.

    1. It happened in Italy, massive escapes and riots that had to be quelled with the Italian military.

    2. “That is, unless it is decided that they are to get some form of amnesty and let many of them out early or the courts will clear much of the dockets”

Or they could all be put into morphine comas with saline drips. Much easier and safer to manage.
Can you say Matrix? I knew you could. Did you know that euthanasia is legal in Canada? Yes, it is.

  14. Nearly twice what the geniuses have been anticipated? Shocking. Meanwhile the death rate has passed 3.9% and is itching ever closer to 4%, nearly twice what they what they have anticipated. But remember, any mention of actual statistics is panic and hysteria. So never mind those too.

    1. If you like numbers, Watts has an interesting article about the Princess Petrie Dish. It seems to confirm the truly vulnerable are, as we all know, the elderly. Infection rates are the mystery.

      https://wattsupwiththat.com/2020/03/16/diamond-princess-mysteries/

When this is all done, I wonder what all the media panic and anxiety are doing to the folks on the edge. The younger generations seem particularly vulnerable to depression and (in my opinion) have programmed themselves to info sponges, not careful info managers.

In the end, could it be an increase in suicide will outpace the virus? Suicides increase in recessions and we certainly have one of those coming.

      1. It also brings a question: what do people that caught it have in common that those who did not catch don’t?

      2. On the other hand, while it may well be the case that the death rates (when measured as a fraction of the true number of infections) are lower, it is because more people are in fact infected, not because less people die.

        1. The quiet message I’m seeing is that for many it’s a bad cold, the South Korean numbers show lots of testing with lower mortality percentages.

It is going to hinge on testing. As testing Increases we’ll get better numbers.

But in real numbers, the pressure on the health care system is going to be huge.

  15. The Chinese flu should put an end to globalization. It will deal it a blow for sure.

The Americans will go into full isolation mode.

    1. Years ago when chloroquine was effective against Plasmodium falciparum, I and hundreds of thousands others took a weekly tablet. It tasted horrid, getting children to swallow took much bribery, but because of its long halflife you only did this once a week and I cannot remember anyone suffering side effects. Chloroquine at higher dosage for actual malaria is nasty and can damage hearing and eyesight.

Is anyone trialling it as a low dose prophylactic especially for the at risk and medical personnel? It acts by allowing more Zn++ into a cell which shuts down viral protein production thereby reducing viral load and severity of illness in theory. As it’s been around since 1938, it’s cheaper than aspirin. If it works it would be easy to roll out across the population and normal life will return

      1. Looks like they took away quinine in the U.S. in ’94.
        Same in Canada?
As you said, a bit of quinine and a Zicam or Coldeaze (sp?) As a prophylaxis could be a game changer. So, of course, nobody is talking about it.

  16. The real problem is knowing what the real data is. One cannot trust the numbers from China or Iran and I believe any government numbers will be skewed depending upon the motive of that particular government.

Then there is the raw data to consider. Different people will have different levels of illness. Those who have Wuhan flu and experience only the sniffles are unlikely to say anything and walk it off. Is it a cold, a flu, or Wuhan? Some will just carry on and others will panic. There is a differential diagnosis for those who know it , but few do. The test kits are few and many are faulty.

Meanwhile the media and lefties are doing their best to use this to take out Trump.

The best we can do is the basic precautions. Good personal hygiene, a healthier diet and proper sleep to start with followed by voluntary isolation will slow the spread of this EXACTLY the same as any other disease. However, until herd immunity is reached (about a year based on previous examples) people will become ill with Wuhan.
BTW, the Swine flu crushed those under 65; Wuhan is crushing those over 65.

  17. My neighbor apparently came in contact with his friend who has been diagnosed with this corona virus after being on a cruise ship. My neighbor developed a fever yesterday. Last night, he had a video conf with health care. They told him they are not going to test him but assume he has it and please self-quarantine for two weeks. His family are also ask risk so they should as well.

No testing to confirm or disprove. My daughter lives a couple towns away and said she knew of someone who also was asked to self-quarantine without being tested.

So this make me wonder, are these cases added to the total even though they may not have it? Or is it not added although they may indeed have it. Not wasting a test on someone who isn’t requiring emergency care is fine with me. But it seems most the news is based around the total numbers and such. Clearly they have to be inaccurate.

    1. It’s just like the flu. Not everyone is tested for that either but they estimate total infected based on that. For now they only report and talk about confirmed cases but when this is over they’ll try to estimate based on who knows what.

    2. James; Perhaps they are included in the “Presumptive cases” count? If they are missing cases, the actual infection rates will be higher and mortality rates will be lower.

      1. Presumptive, as I understand it, are cases tested positive by provincial labs but not confirmed by testing at the NML. After a certain number of confirmed tests, the NML approves the provincial labs to “self-confirm”, for lack of a better term.

  18. I’m monitoring some American hams on 40 metres, using:

    http://www.websdr.org

and one of them is in the San Diego area. According to him, there are apparently about 35 cases there, making one wonder whether things are as bad as reported.

    1. The State of Arizona.
Population just under 7.5 million has 18 cases.
      The Province of Alberta.
Population just under 4.5 million has just reported 18 new cases totaling 74. Fifty four in Calgary alone.
And I’m supposed to pack up and go home immediately?

      1. “The State of Arizona. Population just under 7.5 million has 18 cases.”

Sure. But that doesn’t take into account all the illegal aliens of which the State of Arizona knows nothing.

      2. You’re better off there. Why would anyone ever take the advice of the Canadian government?

  19. One of the more positive spins comes from Willis Eschenbach over at Wattsupwiththat.

Using pure data from the Diamond Princess, the set-up that Michael Osterholm told Joe Rogan was perfect to spread the virus due to air re-circulation, he shows that “83% of the people on the ship didn’t get it, despite perfect conditions for transmission. If you get it, you have about a 50/50 chance of showing no symptoms at all”. Seven people died out of 3,700 (well below the Italian average…).

Personally, I more concerned about the impacts of the containment measures (needed though they may be) on the AB/CA/US/Global economy than the virus itself. I am also concerned about my folks but they are staying low.

      1. Note that your link says “the frequency of the (more aggressive) L type decreased after early January, the researchers said”. Maybe in China but not so much in Italy it seems from a distance.

Or it could be “Italy is a country of old people,” Prof Massimo Galli, the director of infectious diseases at Sacco hospital in Milan, said. “The elderly with previous pathologies are notoriously numerous here. I think this could explain why we are seeing more serious cases of coronavirus here.”
        https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/10/from-confidence-to-quarantine-how-coronavirus-swept-italy

  20. Our experts and elites have stopped preparing for emergencies and disasters and instead have relied on luck. They have fooled themselves into thinking they are well prepared and smart enough to mange but they are lying to themselves and to us. This is just the latest example.
Now, faced with an event that they are ill equipped to handle they lie to us that ‘washing our hands’ will keep you safe while simultaneously imposing draconian measures to try desperately to prevent a disaster they themselves should have seen coming three months ago.
My takeaway is that this is far worse than we are being told and will overwhelm our medical system unless severe measures are taken, which our public health authorities hope will save them from themselves.
When this is all over, we need a reckoning of some kind with these people. We have the wrong people in charge.
Sadly, when all this is over, too many people will fool themselves into thinking it was either all an overreaction or that the authorities did a great job, when the truth will be that we narrowly averted the chaos and death in Italy. And with partisan blinders on, the real problem of the incompetence of our elites, will go unaddressed again.

  21. To all the government cowards hiding out in their safe spaces, I do not trust anything you say and believe even less the liberal propaganda your bought and paid for media shills are spewing. This government has pretty much declared themselves irrelevant by walking off the job for five weeks.
