  1. Consider it done. Happy birthday and thanks for your service sir.

(I have a feeling he’s going to get more than 100 cards)

  2. Oh, yes, old Fred is gonna get one dang big pile of cards. I am sending him one for sure, because he fought for the freedom I gratefully enjoy today. God Bless Fred and all his Cape Breton Highlander Brothers.

  3. “Someone posted a picture of the former machine gunner decked out in full Canadian Army veteran ceremonial regalia”
Looks like regular Legion attire to me only my ‘ceremonial regalia’ doesn’t have the row of medals like his.
Thank-you for your service comrade Fred Arsenault. Card on its way.

  4. I kind of don’t feel worthy to send this man a card + I would now be surprised that he won’t be overwhelmed in a month.
I really hope some politician doesn’t try to take advantage of this story.

  5. Fred fought in Italy and those boys never rec’d the respect they deserved. I wrote to a cousin while he was fighting there (having arrived after Ortona) and made a batch of homemade fudge, wrapped it very well and sent it off anticipating I’d made Edwin and his mates happy. It had melted on its way but they took spoons to it, even licking the paper he said, so it was greatly enjoyed anyway.
Can’t imagine how many cards Fred will receive but hope for the sake of those who will be opening them that they dribble in as I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s 10,000.

  6. It’s in the mail. This gentleman and others like him fought for freedom which unfortunately many in this once great nation do not care about.

    Happy Birthday Fred! !

  7. Thanx for the tip, will be sending one today. Also, my kids are having each of my 3 and 5 year old grandchildren scribble their names on cards as best they can with their age annotated below, hoping that well wishes from children will mean more than we realize for Fred. A true hero!

  8. ah Fred.
yer gonna get a helluvalot more than 100 of them now.
bravo, and deepest sincerest humblest gratitude.
