86 Replies to “It’s Probably Nothing”

  1. Who cares? Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver will be hardest hit. Delisle, Aberdeen, Lumsden, Ogema Sk don’t have international airports.

    1. I’m not putting too fine a point on this but I frequent a Chinese restaurant in a small town. Over the years there has been a steady turnstile of ‘new faces’ regularly going through the place.

They are always in the back and never come into the seating area. After 6 months or so they disappear and some new ones appear.

The owners remain the same it’s the ‘staff’ that are transient. Maybe it’s nothing but why such a turnover in a one horse town? Just askin’?

      1. It’s a long time ago now, but when I was living in France one of the Paris newspapers published an article on how the local government in one arrondissement had a problem with their population statistics.

They had a very high number of Chinese immigrants living there, but the recorded death rate of Chinese was WAY below what it should have been. Logic told them that many more must be dying. Their real question was: where were the bodies?

The first reply they received from a local resident simply pointed out that there were a lot of Chinese restaurants in the area.

(After a lot of investigation, it turned out that the real reason was that a large proportion were illegal immigrants, so when granny died they were reluctant to do a formal report. Fortunately, as well as restaurants, a lot of Chinese also ran funeral homes, and for a small consideration could handle things without the paperwork).

        1. Lets face it, in Canaduh the government won’t – not can’t – get the 49 thousand out of 50 thousand people who weren’t granted asylum out. But why even bother? Just come as a tourist and stay. Guaranteed there are multiple underground ethnic networks throughout the country. And you know if you’re here long enough some bleeding heart liberal or churchy asshole will have something to say against removal. I wouldn’t doubt it’s a seven figure number of illegals.

  2. “Drug overdose deaths continue to impact communities in the United States. From 1999 to 2017, more than 702,000 people have died from a drug overdose. In 2017, more than 70,000 people died from drug overdoses, making it a leading cause of injury-related death in the United States. Sixty-eight percent of those deaths involved a prescription or illicit opioid. On average, 130 Americans die every day from an opioid overdose.”

    https://www.cdc.gov/injury/features/prescription-drug-overdose/index.html

Drug OD is far more lethal in the US than SARS, MERS and coronavirus put together. Guess which problem gets more headlines?

    1. Come back with statistics that break out the difference between legal aid illicit overdose deaths. The illegal fentanyl comes out of China too. When you deliberately obfuscate the statistics, it makes it look like you are hiding something.

        1. This issue (fentanyl deaths) is addressed in the US media on a regular basis…not so much in Canada. Users of fentanyl and other drugs make a conscious choice, victims of coronavirus not so much.

      1. agreed tim.
plus dizzy rizzy IGNORES the difference between a medical condition brought on entirely by the affected one, and a viral infection when basically NO ONE knows for irrefutable certainty they are immune.

    2. Quite right, Rizwan. Given the normal influenza casualties annually, what’s going on right now is a rounding error.

    3. 68% of these relate to prescription or illicit opioids. 67.9 percent is the illicit opioid number.

The truth is, almost 99% of overdoses are from long term addicts.

    4. big difference…this is a type of virus that can mutate very rapidly…and continue to mutate rapidly
..and can get out of control almost over night

    1. Soi What, according to the Australians this virus is ~10 times more fatal than last years flu outbreak in Australia with a fatality rate of 0.27%, the Chinese are saying the fatality rate is 2.3%, thats why people should be concerned. Its also a great test of your countries emergency response system which should already have measures in place after SARS in 2003 – so where are they. Are the measures too offensive to minorites, are they not gender neutral enough, whats the problem? Here is the report from the 2019 flu season in Aus;

“According to the latest Australian Influenza Surveillance Report for the 2019 flu season, there were 812 influenza-associated deaths up until October 6. This made up 0.27 per cent of the 298,120 laboratory-confirmed notifications of influenza reported to Australian authorities.

This compares to the coronavirus, with latest numbers suggesting 106 people (2.3 per cent) have died out of 4515 known cases.

Prof McBride said it appeared coronavirus was more severe than influenza, although it may not be worse than severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), which originated in China and killed nearly 800 people globally in 2002 and 2003.

“The difference between coronavirus and SARS is that SARS was not that infectious, it was transmitted mostly within hospitals,” Prof McBride said.”

  3. The ChiComs are at least trying to do something by quarantining cities. When will the US put a quarantine on Hollywood and Harvard from contaminating the world with its filth?

    1. Now it’s in Boston. Great. My kid lives there, and she had nothing to do with sending viruses to China, like Harvard did. I hope Harvard gets sued to make a dent in that endowment.

    2. Change the topic when the point you’re trying to make doesn’t gain traction. Quite a stretch.

    3. That’s theatre for propaganda purposes. They’re spreading patient zeroes all over the world at the same time.

Actually containing Wuhan syndrome is left to the initiative of ordinary Chinese, who will drive away by force anybody from Hubei province who shows up on their doorsteps. No hotelier will house them, shops and restaurants will not serve them, nobody will go near them.

That’s how you stop a plague. Keep outsiders out, with deadly force if necessary.

      1. And that right there is why this virus has the people here so hot. Finally they get to feel vindicated for being provincial racists.

        1. We don’t hate you because of your skin colour, we hate you because of your toxic ideas and behaviours.

          1. Too subtle Edward. UnMe isn’t sufficiently self-aware to know that its the one being discussed.

UnMe can’t tell the difference between racism and some cultures being better than others because of the guiding ideals behind them being better.

UnMe – shush, the grown-ups are talking.

  4. Duh! The “plan” is to scold anyone who speaks ill of the Chinese. That’s all that matters!

    1. Bruce…
I think you hit the nail on the head. The virus itself is not the main actor here in Kanaduh. It’s all you RACIST BASTARDS that are the real problem..

How dare YOU STAY AWAY from Chinese Restaurants
How dare you avoid all Orientals.
How dare you stay at home..!!

This is what you get with a PM & his followers that ALL have the intellect of a Licked Dry DOG BOWL…. As our entire country lays back like a Friday night whore, taking all comers at 50 bucks a throw.

        1. The likd Dry Dog Bowl is in Fact:

Patty Hadju – Whose previous experience to qualify as a Minister of Health is….drum roll please..!!

          “…Graphpic Designer…”

          I shit you not.

  5. One of the commenters said It’s unbelievable the government doesn’t have a plan. They’re working on it. Heck even if it was an old plan sitting on the shelf they could ressurect quite easily.

Mind you they have extensive plans for Global Warming than can be brought into action immediately. A real crisis.

    Go figure.

    1. Dollars to donuts says there is a viable plan. Involving quarantine and closures. However, after the plan was filtered through the virtue signaling SJW filter, it’d probably be considered racist, so they’re doing this by the seat of their pants.

      1. Airports across Canada have been stocked with some of the finest, most up-to-date pamphlets available. No need to worry 😉

    2. “One of the commenters said It’s unbelievable the government doesn’t have a plan.”

When you’ve been reelected under the circumstances that Trudeau and his regime has been reelected under,
you don’t need any plan for anything. Canadians are stupid and feckless. The Canadian Government gets to be stupid and feckless too.

  6. Apparently we have an excellent monitoring system so we needn’t worry. I saw that on TV last night. A question. That wouldn’t be the same monitoring system that had a dead Indian in a waiting room at a Winnipeg hospital for 48 hours waiting to see a doctor?

  7. I’m not really worried about this particular virus because, so far, it seems to be a bad flu. Like all flus and colds it’s dangerous to the elderly and those with health conditions.

What it does show is the incompetence of our politicians and bureaucrats. Based on this performance, Canadians should be very worried. If a serious disease hits, we better hope our provincial systems are professional and competent because our federal government seems incredibly unqualified.

      1. That’s my concern. The federal government that is scolding us about racism while refusing to repatriate Canadian citizens (presumably of Chinese descent) does not inspire confidence. Racism in deed.

    1. They aren’t, LC. They weren’t ready for SARS and not this.

Any institution (whose job it is to have plans for these sorts of bugs) that gives an answer like the one above shouldn’t be admonished but ejected from the area and receive no more public funding.

And that is if one is in a good mood.

      1. Ultimately, you’re probably on your own if shit hits the fan – epidemics, political upheaval, a natural disaster. Doesn’t mean you need to turn into a paranoid prepper but at least have a passport, fuel and cash handy. Perhaps even a generator. Never hurts to plan for emergencies.

        1. A failure to plan is a plan to fail.
People who think everything is always going to be fine and dandy in their surroundings are ignorant bordering on delusional.
Respect is useful and paranoia is self-destructive.

  8. Here are a few random numbers from the web.

The CDC estimates that as many as 56,000 people die from the flu or flu-like illness each year. From: Common Cold Prevention WebMD Medical Reference. Feb 6 2019

Each year 12.7 million people discover they have cancer and 7.6 million people die from the disease.

Drug abuse kills about 200,000 people worldwide each year, according to a new United Nations (UN) report.

    Just another perspective.

As of this morning, the latest figures are that 259 people have died from coronavirus while over 11,900 people globally are known to be infected with the virus.
    https://metro.co.uk/2020/02/01/many-people-died-coronavirus-many-12165027/

Is the mass hysteria good for some ideologies?
That is to say that those in China now should be quarantined in China.
Unnecessary spread is obviously not helpful.

    You decide.

    1. It’s probably nothing but how about these random numbers from the web.

“In late spring of 1918, the first phase [of the Spanish flu], known as the “three-day fever,” appeared without warning. Few deaths were reported. Victims recovered after a few days. When the disease surfaced again that fall, it was far more severe. Scientists, doctors, and health officials could not identify this disease which was striking so fast and so viciously, eluding treatment and defying control. Some victims died within hours of their first symptoms. Others succumbed after a few days; their lungs filled with fluid and they suffocated to death.”

“The plague did not discriminate. It was rampant in urban and rural areas, from the densely populated East coast to the remotest parts of Alaska. Young adults, usually unaffected by these types of infectious diseases, were among the hardest hit groups along with the elderly and young children. The flu afflicted over 25 percent of the U.S. population. In one year, the average life expectancy in the United States dropped by 12 years.”

      https://www.archives.gov/exhibits/influenza-epidemic/

      Still early days…

  9. “The county’s in the very best of hands.”

I’m in Flathead County, Montana. I worried there for a minute.

Maybe Kate meant Country, like you know, Canada.

    1. John – but is your head really flat??

I do believe that if you were fortunate enough to survive killer bees, mad cow disease, the Y2K / millenium bug, SARS, MER, bird flu, swine flu & GLO-BULL warming that the Corona Virus will for sure be the one to get you!!

  10. I burst into tears reading the angry and mean comments on this thread. The Canadian People wanted diversity, and now, thank any god but Christ, they have the vanguard party in power implementing diversity. Finally, wamen in positions of power, because they are wamen. If there are any deaths from this plague, you can blame the patriarchy and its evil sidekick, ability-ism.

  11. Despite the fact that seasonal flus kill many- in China as well- can’t say I’ve noticed then in hazmat suits or building locked down hospitals in 10 days before.

    Or shutting down entire cities.

Death rate seems to be 10 -12 days forward from infected rate.

Meaning if 10 -12 days ago there were 400 cases then today the death count there will be close to 400 deaths.

If that relationship holds, and the infection rate keeps growing exponentially, then as Joe Biden would say, it’s a Big F*ckin Deal.

    1. Agreed.

For people who don’t think mutch:
A diseases mortality rate is calculated only within the positive test people.
      # who died divided by the total # who got the disease and recovered added with the number who got the disease and died from it. Right now the idiots are factoring in all people who are proven to have contracted the virus before knowing weather they lived or died. THAT’S SO STUPID Clearly opioids are involved here, as in SMOKIN’ IT.
I agree with your assessment. I’m looking for an admission from China of 500 deaths on Monday. If that happens I think it is safe to predict mortality rates exceeding 5% with a high infection rate.
Wuhan has 11 million. If 60% of their population gets the virus and 5% die, that’s 330,000 in Wuhan alone.

  12. If you know who you’re not supposed to criticize, you know who rules over you.

    And it’s not the Jews.

(Can you imagine how different global reaction would have been if the virus had somehow escaped from an Israeli germ warfare lab—or, more probably, been released in Israel by an Iranian spy? I shudder at the very thought.)

  13. Well, we could be updated by Great Leader Blackie, but he is fleeing the country to Africa.

    1. Hope his shots are updated. Mind you I wouldn’t shed a tear if he caught something that prevents him from returning. Mind you, if he didn’t return we might find out who is really running this place.

      1. You mean the 32-year-old one currently undergoing repairs after slamming into an Ottawa hangar wall (out of service until Sept 2020), or the back-up one which blew an engine in London, England and is/was “currently unserviceable” (source: Canadian Press, Dec 2019)? Or maybe that other one Trudeau chartered for his election campaign that had to be replaced after his campaign bus collided with it’s wing? Or maybe the gas-guzzling one that replaced it? Or maybe the second gas-guzzling, 40-plus years old 737-200 relic that Trudeau used to carry his baggage? (five different aircraft, for those of you keeping count at home).

Quoting Canadian Press, again, on Dec. 4, 2019:
“Planes in the fleet available to transport the prime minister and the Governor General have an estimated retirement date of 2026. The government is studying whether it’s time to replace them.” Ya think?

  14. All you number crunchers can’t do simple math
    Its called addition and subtraction.
It is inevitable that we’re all going to die.
This virus adds one to the already long list of things that are going to kill you, perhaps before you’d like to go.
If it increases my chance, oh well, but for elderly people I care about, that’s another story.
All the subtraction comes from the government. There is nothing positive I can say about the federal government. They add nothing to anyone’s daily lives except to the trough-feeding swine. And if you think they have solutions, you’re a zero.
    Thus endeth the math lesson

  15. Just heard former community organizer cow patti hagdu our minister of health interviewed. Reassuring. She’s got this thing under control.

When asked about an airlift home she said they didn’t have any idea how many Canadians were in China. Nobody was asking for help. Now she thinks they may have to charter a plane.

She avoided the question of quarantine by suggesting the chicoms wont let anyone fly if they are sick. Huh?

When will airbongo fly? Will we have a typhoid Mary on board? How about the 2 Michaels? Probably already dead of the ‘flu’….

    1. Ah, but our grand national quantum computing expert will arrive at a solution instantly, not only demonstrating that QC is feasible but how smart he really is.

One more thing: when the federal cabinet meets in an emergency session to discuss the matter (yeah, right), will Prinz Dummkopf be the one who gets the doughnuts and will they be from some classy bakery? After all, the best solutions come after they’ve stuffed their faces with $5 crullers.

  16. Meanwhile, Brazilian citizens in Wuhan have been ordered by their Chinese hosts to beg Brasilia for a free ride home.

    https://youtu.be/CEQeOGhZDaU

Brasilia has refused all comment on the video. It deserves none. President Bolsonaro isn’t a blithering idiot. The Wuhan Brazilians aren’t going anywhere.

      1. Johnpeg, That comment had me laughing! However, doncha mean Bazillion? Probably, but I still don’t know how much that is either!

  17. Watch what China DOES, not what this actress turned politician dolt tells you.

Why would China quarantine 50 million people, build a 1000 bed hospital within 10 days (with 2 more to follow) and cremate bodies without a funeral if it’s not that serious?

    Why the hazmat suits??

    It’s just the flu….

    1. I’m convinced the infection came from the lab in Wuhan which is why the Chinese government is acting the way it is.

      1. I suspect the same.
I’ve commented about it in a few posts.
I cant get over people who are so cavalier about the outbreak potential of this coronavirus that happens to have 3 HIV insertions into it.
Zerohedge sums it up including the theft of coronavirus out of a Canadian lab.
A previous article got Zerohedge banned from Twitter for inking and translating the Bat researcher from the Chinese bioweapon facility

        https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/coronavirus-contains-hiv-insertions-stoking-fears-over-artificially-created-bioweapon

    2. The Wuhan Pneumonia is very similar to Coronaviruses being researched in Wuhan for the Chinese Communist Party and their military. It may be natural, as bats and snakes among other animals in Hubei Province do carry Coronavirus naturally. It may be an escaped virus from their research lab, either from sloppy control of their lab effluents (SARS was spread by feces), or someone poor janitor or tech stealing a lab animal(s) and selling it to the wet market at the Wuhan Seafood Market. Maybe one of the very first victims worked at the lab?

Something absolutely scared the shit out of the Chinese Communist Party. There is a big, unknown reason why they reacted so strongly. Was it that this was a lab sample that escaped or a bio weapon? They quarantined a city of over 10 million people. Then an entire province and over 50 million people. That is about 3-4 times more people than live in Canada. They shutdown their Lunar New Year Celebrations, and Shutdown their transport system. They are keeping factories and schools shut down. The Chinese economy is already hurting from US Tariffs, is now going to take a huge hit. So will the World economy. We will see recessions in Europe and Asia.

President for Life Xi may find his term is almost up.

      They are scared. Why!?!?

  18. Canada has a huge unfunded liability problem regarding healthcare costs, pensions and stubborn old people stuck in their blackface ways etc. Give Trudeau some credit…looks like he has created a solution to the problem of growing old. Maybe he was right…the budget will balance itself (with a little help from his handlers in China). 😉

  19. Just listened to Matthew Fisher on Roy Green. He laid out Canada’s inaction succinctly. He has a column on the flu and the chicoms on Global.

Was talking with a casual acquaintance today who’s son is in China. She’s been censored on FB a dozen times for criticism of China. Posts are quickly deleted. WTF is going on here?

  20. “The country’s in the very best of hands.”

Something about Diversity, Affirmative Action, 50% Female Cabinet, Equality Of Outcome instead of Equality Of Opportunity, Hired for Identity not for Merit and credentials, ’cause, you know it was 2015 and our gov’t is so woke they think incompetence is a feature not a bug. Misogynistic racist white privilege and all that

  21. The liberal mindset is an “all eggs in one basket” approach on almost everything. That’s why their long term climate assumptions are “it’s going to get warmer, how do we deal with it?” instead of the much needed “this inter-glacial is coming to an end, when will it stop and how quickly will the ice grow and all ports be left high and dry by the dropping seas?”

    Short term planners. Sheesh.

  22. must be one helluva strategy.
theyve been ‘working on it’ since the 1918 spanish flu.
    OVER 100 YEARS.
