The Libranos: Chinada

Terry Glavin;

[R]easonable people will understand fraud as a vice involving dishonesty, trickery, sleight-of-hand, swindling and related varieties of self-dealing monkey business, and each of these have in their way contaminated the public debates about Meng’s case. Those debates are inextricably bound up in the matter of Beijing’s barbaric retaliatory kidnapping and imprisonment of diplomat-on-leave Michael Kovrig and entrepreneur Michael Spavor, along with a variety of costly trade reprisals and threats of more punishments to come.

The culpability of quite a few yesteryear Liberal party big shots in giving Beijing every impression that these sorts of strong-arm tactics would work in Canada is at issue as well, or at least it should be. We are expected to believe, for instance, that Jean Chrétien, John Manley and Eddie Goldenberg, in relaying Beijing’s ransom demands — the crudest being a “prisoner exchange,” Meng for Kovrig and Spavor — are sage and wizened statesmen whose advice is offered in a public-spirited way, in the national interest. After all, we’re talking about a former prime minister, a former deputy prime minister, and Chrétien’s former chief of staff.

The charade here is that Jean Chrétien has been a senior skid-greaser in the China trade racket ever since he resigned in 2003, and he currently serves as a trusted counsel with Dentons LLP, which serves as the public face of the Chinese corporate law conglomerate otherwise known as Beijing Dacheng. Manley is a senior adviser with Bennett Jones LLP and a director of Telus Corp., which is up to its eyeballs in Huawei gear and is quaking at the thought of Huawei being properly barred from Canada’s 5G internet roll-out on national security grounds. Bennett Jones’ clients roster includes several of Beijing’s ministries, agencies and state-owned enterprises, and the firm’s “co-head of government affairs and public policy practice” is none other than Eddie Goldenberg.

The prisoner-exchange remedy they’ve proposed relies on some heretofore undisclosed assurance from Beijing that indeed the two Mikes would be surrendered if only Prime Minister Justin Trudeau would hornswoggle from Justice Minister David Lametti an unseemly intervention on Meng’s behalf of the sordid kind he failed to procure from Jody Wilson-Raybould in the SNC-Lavalin affair.

  1. No shit!
    Amazing!
I mean, who’d a thunk it that the Chicoms had our Ivory Tower Trash bent over a barrel?

  2. One piece at a time, the corrupt rulers are selling off Canada to anyone who will pay the appropriate gratuities. The future will not be too bright, leave the shades.

    1. .

Canada is no longer a country, it’s a whore.

The Liberal Party is no longer a political party, it’s a pimp.

      .

  3. Even though he’s a lefty, I like Glavin because he’s honest and on nobody’s side.
The Libranos are proud of what they are. “Its not a bug, its a feature.” They are corrupt, amoral, pond scum.
Everyone who votes for them is, at the very least, an ethically challenged turd.

    1. And the CPC are chiny white and bright in comparison? I don’t give this so-called country a year at most. Five (count ’em) commie “political” parties to choose from.

      1. Yes, only in comparison.

When presented only with evil choices, the right thing to do (not good, just right) is to choose the lesser evil. And then continue to work at developing a good option, or at least a still lesser evil one.

  4. Meng is a member of the Chinese aristocracy. She will never submit to the justice of a people she considers subhuman. To a Chinaman, only Chinamen are human. You and I are no better than dogs, pigs, snakes, worms, and the rest of the menagerie found for sale in Chinese meat markets, the only difference being they can’t slaughter us, pickle our organs and sell them as quack cures for impotence. Yet.

Be judged by a barbarian? She’d rather die.

      1. That is because the very same chicom people have not bat an eye at any injustice their government is did to non chicoms. That is because the very same people believe that world domination is China’s destiny.

  5. Got s question.

Y’all keep voting for the “least worst option”.

All the options keep getting worse.

How is your strategy working out for you?

    1. Very much to the point. Voting against someone or thing is voting for nothing, and that’s what we keep getting.

    2. What’s your strategy, Kevin? Have you just given up? How is that working out for you? Are you working on a better option, or just working on persuading us to give up with you because misery wants company?

      1. Kevin’s strategy:
        1. Elect Aladdin.
        2. ?????????
        3. Wexit.

He is somehwere between 1 and 2, all according to plan. It may take a while though.

        1. So hilarious. CBC still there, Harper did nothing about it. NEP two, Scheer did nothing about it, Kenney nothing, Moe nothing, Wall nothing…

It is just so funny that you talk like you have a winning strategy. A winning strategy that has? ZERO RESULTS. You literally have nothing, which is why you went straight to ad hominem, because that is what people do when they do not have an actual argument to make.

Seriously. Tell me. Where has your plan gotten you? Seems like ever increasing communist options on all sides. From Clark, to Campbell, to Scheer; ever more to the left. Debt still increasing. Government still growing. A penis in every locker room. Carbon taxes. Death taxes. Birth taxes. If you get cold they’ll tax the heat. If you sit down they tax the seat. Maybe you are measuring “success” differently than I do. Educate me.

Unless, your plan IS socialism? Then GOOD JOB.

          1. Same tired story. A spoiled brat does not get what he wants so he throws a temper tantrum. Meanwhile, the left is consistently winning. And what have you done to push back? Nothing. You’re too busy with your purity tests. Denouncing for example Rebel Media, Lindsay Sheppard, Jordan Peterson and everyone who tries to fight back. None is pure enough for you.

You know what is the winning strategy. Ask the left, after all you’re their loyal useful idiot, they may feel charitable. Here let me give you a hint: they don’t get their ideal either. If they did, you and I would already be dead or in the gulag. But they keep pushing the center towards the left. They’ll bitch and moan about this or than being not sufficiently progressive but when the SHTF they will unite against the right. And they will win another round, and another. Meanwhile, you will be too busy denouncing those on your side for not being sufficiently pure too even notice that you lost again.

They are now coming for our guns. Wake up, stop fucking dreaming, stop being fucking useless again. There is a real fight going on and we’re losing.

          2. BTW I went straight to ad hominem because you’re beyond help and can’t be reasoned with.

  6. Wot?
    Gavin coming up for air?
The reason Cretin.Manley and their kind would give China such advice is easy, that was how they governed.
Cretin and Manley lied, without shame and with little pushback from their tame presstitutes and held power for decades, until the internal backstabbing and competition for stealing accidently knocked themselves out .
Now they are back, the natural ruling party..partying on as they steal the last dime left to Canadians.
    And Canadians willingly re-elected them.
Cause we need our mother government.
After watching who governs Canada,of course the Chinese know who to push.
Anybody and Everybody cause we have no spine,no standards, just appearances..Hence the part time Actor who sits on the PM’s chair.
We need a new country, one that asks”What are we doing? How are we doing?”.
    Rather than;”How do I look?”

    1. ”until the internal backstabbing and competition for stealing accidently knocked themselves out .”

You my friend have hit upon a solution.

There is no honour amping thrives or the denizens of the Ottawa bubble.
And as with any organized crime syndicate, if there is even a smidgen of an idea that someone took more than their share of wompum the guns start firing inward.

Want to save the country, get a metaphorical civil war going inside Ottawa. They will destroy themselves.

  7. Only the laurentien elite have proposed a ‘prisoner exchange’ – suggesting we are some kinda 3rd world country devoid of the rule of law.

The Wazoo situation is entirely the fault of the trudeau government and especially freeland who was the minister of Foreign Affairs at the time. The Americans had issued what amounted to a ‘Red Notice’ asking Canada to detain Wazoo if she travelled through Canada. She was avoiding the US because she knew they were after her. The fools in FA could have discretely tipped Wazoo off and none of this would ever have happened. Now we are stuck with a bad situation that was of our own doing.

da liddle thief and his chicom stooges are perplexed. Their chinese bosses are ratcheting up the pressure. Certain law
firms are getting uncomfortable phone calls from Beijing – they want answers.

Perhaps bongo hizself isn’t in on take. His old man didn’t play the game at the level the boys from quebekkie do but he didn’t mind his cabinet ministers enriching themselves at the expense of the country. All this chicom chicanery started in the PET era. Think mo strong and Canada officially recognizing the communist country of China. PET loved a commie as we all know. He unfortunately never understood chinese cunning. Nor do the current cabal of our betters who are embedded with the chicom regime .

So here we are. Done in by our own stupidity and the avarice of our elected officials and the laurentien elites. Nice

    1. P.E.T. was never as clever as people told him he was. PM Castreau also isn’t as clever as people tell him he is, and nobody is telling him he’s as clever as his (official) father.

      1. Peeair was “clever” at fooling people into believing that he was clever… people still believe that horseshit to this day… despite all the evidence to the contrary… the guy could barely read English, by his own admission… Peeair’s public image was a carefully constructed mirage… he was a fraud artist, an “actor”, a french language supremacist and bigot and known to be mentally disturbed from a very young age. The country he and the LIberal Party imposed reflects him well. #WEXIT

    1. rwj

Yes indeed. The sidewinder implicated da liddle thief up to his eyeballs. A traitorous criminal

  8. If the Libs were to acquiesce to a dirty, corrupt deal, underwritten by Cretch, the Americans will no longer trust the Libs ir Trudeaope, and, make them pay for it.
Yeah, the Libs are globalists, Trump knows it, but hasn’t had much reason for payback.
    This will ensure payback.
WTF is Cretch still a player? I know the Libs are incompetent and amateurs, but FFS!

  9. The Liberal Party of Canada is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Chinese Communist Party. That is all.

  10. A few thoughts:

    1. It seems odd to me that the PRC would first seize the two Michaels, and then seek counsel from its Canadian advisors on “whether these sorts of strong-arm tactics would work in Canada”, to quote Mr. Glavin. Doesn’t it make more sense the other way around: the PRC seeks advice, and then acts? I don’t know, naturally, but in my experience, one retains legal counsel/government relations consultants on a standing basis (which seems to be the kind of relationship that the Canadian advisors had with the various PRC-based entities, according to Mr. Glavin’s description) to plot out strategy and tactics before taking action.

    2. If such were the case, would that put the SNC Lavalin situation in a different light? Mr. Glavin also draws in that comparison. I thought at the time, for example, that Mr. Chretien’s intervention — from Vancouver, I think it was — in defence of Mr. Trudeau’s handling of JWR and SNC Lavalin to be strange: if left me wondering when Mr. Trudeau was going to stand on his own two feet, fend for himself, and quit relying on Mr. Chretien, as he did heavily during the 2015 election campaign. I don’t know off hand the relative economic importance of SNC’s operations in Canada versus those of Huawei, but they’d have to be at least comparable, I’d guess. Now that SNC appears to have gotten what it wanted from the PPSC, would that have served as a useful precedent for future cases? I’d point out that Ms. Weng was arrested in early December 2018, and the SNC scandal blew-up just two months later.

    3. I’m going to guess that Mr. Trudeau’s leadership of the Liberal Party is under huge stress now. Mr. Glavin’s comments cannot be lost on anyone who pays close attention to politics, least of all to Mr. Trudeau’s potential rivals and members of his parliamentary caucus.

    4. This report also reflects negatively on Peter MacKay and the Conservative leadership. I like Peter and all that, but what Mr. Glavin clearly states is that Huawei received a lavish welcome to Canada a “decade” ago. Remind me again which party was in power a “decade” ago. And I’m leery of Peter’s seeming “revolving door” relationship with politics and Bay Street (it reminds me of Mr. Chretien, to be honest). If it’s Peter, it’s Peter, and I’ll be voting for him in the next general election, but I’m frankly interested in someone from outside the system, who has earned their own money and is successful and well-known, independent of past political involvement.

    1. And with two innocent Canadians in a Chinese prison why haven’t we sent her to the ladies prison someplace like Kingston to await extradition.

She sits in her gilded Vancouver ‘cage’ awaiting our cowardly leadership to set her free OR a brave Chinese special forces team to set her free. It’s not like our military could stop them. She may as well be sitting in a Hong Kong mansion.

It would be much harder for the Chinese tryants to extract her from central Canada. (it would have the added advantage of dropping her in Eastern laps, not the laps of the BC RCMP).

I put the odds at successful extradition to the US at 100:1

      1. I posted in a few places as soon as the Chinese took hostages that it demonstrated they don’t care that they are seen to be flouting international law or diplomatic conventions, they intend to get their way and make a demonstration of it, and that there is no reason to think they would balk at carrying out a clandestine operation with plausible deniabiltiy to “rescue” Meng. Eg. claim someone kidnapped her from incompetent Canadian custody, and after a brief interval, produce her at home and say they rescued her from kidnappers. And offer us our hostages back when we prove that we will go along with the play-acting.

At that point Canadian authorities should have publicly announced anticipated risk and revoked her bail, returned her to close arrest and when the Chinese ratcheted up their pressure, as they surely would, transferred her to maximum security.

Of course I knew we wouldn’t.

    2. One of the Michaels has strong ties to the libranos. A former dip turned ‘consultant’.

The chicoms know how to play this game. They don’t need advice from their Canadien collaborators. They will simply ratchet up the pressure until the libranos crack.

    3. I believe the lavish welcome and continued plundering is a response to the pervasive anti-American sentiment in Canada. Ally with anyone who has the perceived strength to leverage and annoy the U.S. A brush back to those south of the 49th. Sure wish we worked better together. Water under the bridge. The U.S. is so divided now, pick any side and repercussions surface.

  11. I feel some sympathy for the two Michaels but frankly not a lot.

They went freely and knowingly into that hellhole country. Anyone who finds themself imprisoned in Iran or Venezuela or China or any of a number of other shithole countries around the world should be on his own. Ms Meng was at least smart enough to get herself arrested in North America.

  12. on ‘prisoner exchange’
    ?
soooooo we’re at war with chirer now?
and our Dear Leader admires them?
dont they fcukin EXECUTE traitors in time of war?
