Social Disease

“Twitter sentiment is a Styrofoam iceberg”.

If you’d prefer reasoned debate, it will start with a collective realization that mobs can’t do much except make noise. They’re not actually very big, for starters — the number of people who replied to Rowling’s tweet wouldn’t fill most Texas college football stadiums, and reasonable people don’t choose their views by polling the crowd at the Aggies-Longhorns game.

More important, most mobs aren’t committed to the effort beyond flicking a thumb. Institutions that ignore the mob are often astonished at how little difference all the outrage makes to their business — and I’d bet Rowling won’t see much evidence of this controversy in her royalty statements.

The censorious power of Mrs. Grundys always depends on the cooperation of the governed, which is why their regime collapsed the moment the baby boomers shrugged off their finger-wagging. If Rowling provides an unmissable public demonstration that it is safe to ignore the current crop, we can hope others will follow her example, and the dictatorship of the proscriptariat will fall as quickly as it arose.

  1. never twittered, dont have a fb acct, didnt get hacked in the Lifelabs because I refused to ‘check results online’.
what else? oh ya, I dont even have web feed anymore at my place. godd*&^&ed waste of time.
    etc etc
my online use consists of paying bills and reading the scoop here @ SDA.

God Bless the American military and God Bless Kate McMillan !!!

    1. I got off Facebook, I don’t do Twitter and the only one in my house who has an Instagram account is my cat. My cat has far more followers and far more friends than I ever did.

    2. I do Twitter, I have a FB account and I check online for more than SDA postings.

      So what’s your point?

  2. twitter…
    A Leftist ECHO CHAMBER.
    A crybabys room.
    For Ignorant TWATS…

I used it to harrass the PMO and that subversive treasonous Sack of Shit aka Gerald Butts. I’m pretty sure it was one of his useful idiots that sought out 1 tweet 4 months prior where I had the audacity to question the veracity of Trans folks in our population.

Anyways the fact I simply asked a question was enough to have me excommunicated from twatter verse.

I could give a shit, I find it to be Nothing more than a forum for the intellectually VACANT.

  3. “Social” media has stunted how people communicate.

I’ve encountered people who, if they want to take a discussion off the website where we started it, insist on moving over to, say, Skype. I get some strange responses when I let them know that I’m old-fashioned and prefer the simple written word in the form of e-mail.

Then again, while I was teaching, many of my students couldn’t spell, let alone compose a comprehensible sentence and that was well before Farcebook, et. al.

    1. One of the most character building things I did in high school was to join the Debate Club. I found that nothing expands your perception of a topic like being forced to study then argue for a side you personally disagree with. Few experiences are more uncomfortable than laying out your own beliefs and then honestly questioning them yourself.

BA, I remember my excitement when I first discovered the blogosphere, a whole new world of people to exchange ideas with! That excitement soon faded when I started to discover that like-minded people were simply circling their wagons in their own little groupthink clubs, constantly seeking confirmation for their own biases and attacking dissenting opinion. Every single debate between opposing ideologies that I have ever witnessed on the internet has pretty much ended with the exact same dismissal… “I’m right, you’re stupid”.

Ha, on a related note, last summer I bought a t-shirt that I love to wear while drinking beers and jawing with the neighbors. It proudly proclaims… “I’m not arguing with you, I’m just explaining why I’m right.”

      1. Wow you must have had the same debate coach as me. I once had to debate that the world was flat. I also won. However I’m sure debates are no longer happening in our schools.

  4. It works because this “silent majority” you speak of, will always go back; eventually.

The fans will eventually start going back to the Woke Football league games.
They will eventually renew their cable subscriptions, because they don’t want to miss a game on the Woke Sports Network.
They will eventually buy another pair of Nikes, because that guy hasn’t taken a knee in a decade.
They will eventually buy another F150, because their grandfather was a Ford guy.

They will eventually fall for the long con, of a political party that has “conservative” in the name. Eventually, they will send another donation, because “Joe Clark and Kim Campbell have been gone for so long. Those red tories are never coming back”.

They have more committed people than you do; any number is greater than zero. Eventually, ALL IS FORGIVEN. For people who don’t make it their life.

“The organizer must become schizoid, politically, in order to slip into becoming a true believer. Before men can act an issue must be polarized. Men will act when they are convinced their cause is 100 percent on the side of the angels and that the opposition are 100 percent on the side of the devil. He knows there can be no action until issues are polarized to this degree.” ~ Saul Alinsky

  5. If you want to understand the social disease infecting the “conservative” party here in Canada, listen to this guy, around 21 minutes into it.

You cannot “modernize” a conservative party.A consewrvative party stands for princiupals; to “modernize” those principals is to reject them. A conservative party only wins when it advocates those principals.

This is why I stick with the PPC; it has not rejected those principals.

  6. Been watching some you tube. Been looking at quotes from various people…

Was not electing Barry Goldwater when the USA ceased to exist?

Was the end of the UK actually the formation of the BBC?

“Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice. And moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.” ~ Barry Goldwater

Was the CBC the actual end of Canada?

There are certain events you look back on, untestable hypotheses, that if that one thing had gone differently, so many things would have been different from that point onward.

Could the remainers have had the sway they held, without the BBC behind them? Could the labour unions have accumulated the power they had that led to Thatcher? Could red tories have infiltrated and taken down every conservative movement in Canada without the CBC? Could Trudeau have inflicted The End of Freedom and Goodness Charter on Canada without the CBC?

Without the CBC, would the MS St. Louis been turned away?

Would Australia be without electricity, without the ABC pushing wind power?

“Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice. And moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.” ~ Barry Goldwater

    1. If the pro-life people actually want to end “abortion”, then they have to stop supporting anyone and everything that is not 100% committed to the same cause. You cannot shop at places that are tied to the United Way and planned parenthood. You cannot give to charities that are caught in the web. You cannot buy cars from companies that are caught in the web.

If you want the CBC gone, you have to stop supporting anyone and everything that has ever consented to an interview by a CBC reporter.

If you want the gaystapo to actually end, you have to go farther than the true believers on their side will go.

Looking at the mushy middle in Canada, pretty clear it is already lost. They will not fight for anything. They will not voice opposition to anything. They will not stand for any principle. This is the country of Andrew Scheer, not the country that fought in WW2.

      1. “it is always a war.”

“the object of a political debate is not to defeat the opponent in an argument, but to wipe him from the face of the earth”

“It is necessary to be able to withstand all this, to agree to any and every sacrifice, and even – if need be – to resort to all sorts of stratagems, manoeuvres and illegal methods, to evasion and subterfuges in order to penetrate the trade unions, to remain in them, and to carry on Communist work in them at all costs.” ~ Vladimir Lenin
