    If Donald J. Trump had been president during the 1983 Beruit bombing of the U.S. Marine base(200 plus killed). Instead of pulling troops out, he may have decided to blow Hezbollah’s ashes back to Iran. The Middle-East and the West have been viewed as easy targets for Iran, when Pres. Regan withdrew instead retaliating enough wipe their invasion out of Lebanon. Then Lebanon would still be majority Christian, the Middle-East peaceful and the Iranian Mullahs would have issued a convenient fatwa about it being the wrong Millennium for jihad.

    Basically Trump just increased the risk factor for the proxies thereby exponentially reducing the return on investment for the work being done for Iran. The current cost structure has therefore priced the Iranian’s out of the terrorist for hire market and now they have to dirty their own hands.
    Like the cowards they are, the prospect of risking their own lives to attack the US is not something they ever expected they would have to do.

    – The U.S. commanders in Iraq did not know about the hit in any way.

    Conclusions:

    – There are highly-placed regime elements, who favour a transfer of power away from the Ayatollahs.

    – The current regime will be gone in 90 days, at maximum (personally, I think it will be by the end of January).
