The UnBenghazi

Breaking.

Details here;

An airstrike killed Gen. Qassem Soleimani, head of Iran’s elite Quds Force and architect of its regional security apparatus, at Baghdad’s international airport Friday, Iranian state television and three Iraqi officials said, an attack that’s expected to draw severe Iranian retaliation against Israel and American interests.

The strike also killed Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, deputy commander of Iran-backed militias in Iraq known as the Popular Mobilization Forces, or PMF, the officials said. The PMF media arm said the two were killed in an American airstrike that targeted their vehicle on the road to the airport.

I believe that’s called “sending a message”.

The Iraqis seem happy. Oddly enough.

  1. And if they send more terrorists to attack American embassies anywhere, nuke Tehran into an ash tray and make the world sit up and take notice. These f***ers seem to only understand violence,so do it up right.

    1. This.

I’ve always maintained that a thorough nuking of Egypt, Pakistan and everything in between would make the world a better place.

      1. I minored in Classical Studies and Ancient History and I met Dr. Zawi Hawass once. If he’s a raving Islamist he hides it under a deep love of the antiquities of ancient Egypt. The loss of the archaeological sites in Egypt, Iraq and Iran would be tragic.

Maybe we can use little bitty nukes?

    2. That Don, is long long long overdue.
But make the comment to ALL Islamic Nations… Mess with us again and you shall be obliterated en masse.
Mecca – Riyahd – Islamabad etc,

We gonna have to do it one day anyway, may as well start NOW.

      1. steakman, what would we do with all the followers of islam who have infiltrated our country, America and all other western countries? They believe the exact same things that all muslims believe and that is if you do not follow islam you are to be a slave or killed.

  2. Just nuke that shithole and be done with it once and for all. Enough is enough, turd worlders need to learn their place.

    1. I disagree, there are a lot of fine people in that country that dont deserve either the theocratic mess that rules Iran or the ramifications of their actions.
I kinda like the almost surgical precision of this clean up. And I do imagine the world has sat up and is paying attention.
Big difference from the pallets of cash right?

      1. Which country? Iran or Iraq?

You can disagree all you want. Turd worlders should not be allowed to look funny in the direction of their betters. Wipe out a couple of shitholes and the rest will fall in line. Had this been civilized world’s policy since 1945 a lot of problems would be averted.

          1. You got anything of substance to say? How am I wrong? That is exactly what we have done in WWII. Every time you allow turd worlders to bite you they only bite more. Had Tehran been vaporized decades ago, today Iranians would be as kind and civilized as Japanese. And if not? Leather, rinse repeat. Apply as necessary. Same goes for Soviets in 1945, had they been vaporized every major problem for civilization since then would not have happen.

          2. C’mon Colonialista, don’t hold back you’ll get an ulcer and die, say what you REALLY feel!

            “BOOM goes London, BOOM Paree,
More room for you and more ROOM for me,
And every city, the whole world ’round
Will just be another, American town,
Oh how peaceful it will be –
            We’ll set ev’rybody free –
You’ll wear a Japanese kimono babe, be Italian shoes for me!

            They all hate us anyhow,
So let’s drop the big one now!”

So what shall we call all the living space we free-up – “lebensraum”?

          3. Pretty sure you’d be the only person calling it that. But hey – calling blood-soaked wastelands we’ve murdered our way into ownership of “civilization” is a really old, thoroughly shop-worn shtick; and you’re not really fooling anybody on either side.

Lincoln put it “Don’t you also destroy an enemy by making him your friend?” – this ain’t how it’s done.

          4. They have already murdered anyone among them that were worth something. The rest will not even notice. Besides better them than us.

          5. That’s nonsense. There ARE millions of decent people there – you just never hear from them because the consequences of opening their mouths have been made pretty d@mn clear. Sorta’ like North Koreans, or inmates of Nazi death camps – you get the idea.

This is what ‘regime change’ is supposed to achieve – wipe-out the brutes whiphandling them for fun ‘n profit, and the people’ll hopefully sort it out themselves, and maybe even be friends with us once they’ve done so. But it’s a lamentable failure of the “free” “west” that this effort takes decades and is very expensive – or the junior brutes quickly slide-into all the seats we just cleared the senior brutes out of, and happily go back to crushing the proletariat for fun ‘n profit, just like their mentors taught them to.

And us? – the “peacekeepers”? – next election, all the opposition politicians are pounding the pulpit with “Bring the troops HOME – think of the money we’ll save!” And we having evolved(?) from opportunistic carnivorous apes, wherever there’s a power vacuum, somebody will fill it – invariably a greedy and brutal somebody with like-minded henchmen, none of whom give a rat’s @$$ about the people they’re planning to oppress.

            A pattern emergeth……

      2. The good ones have voted with their feet, the Jews to Israel and the Gentiles mostly to California during a period when the Golden State was still mostly ruled by good Americans.

Overthrowing the likes of the Islamic Republic, and replacing it with something less interested in destroying “capitalism” or “Zionism,” is the sort of job the atomic bomb was designed to do. The hour is late to find out how many of those revolutionaries care to be the last to die for the ayatullahs.

    2. It shouldn’t need to be said, but some of the things that drop out of the Colon are very unpleasant.

To all those who might take the idea of nuking Iran seriously … please consider. First, it is a mistake to think that all Iranians are bloodthirsty Islamopaths. A nuke would kill many innocent people who don’t in any way deserve that.

Second, the Islamic world really needs to reform. The fundamentalists are responsible for much of the world’s misery right now. A nuke killing millions (?) would likely unite the reformers and the extremists. Reform would be thwarted. If you don’t think there are very brave souls trying to reform their religions, at least look on MEMRI, or the following:
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017%E2%80%9319_Iranian_protests_against_compulsory_hijab

Third, i agree with the sentiment that certain men are best ruled through fear. As C says, these people need to “learn their place”. How best to deal with these people? By punishing the many for the crimes of the few? When the free world had no surgical strikes, then this was a horrible, but justified option. On that basis, I think Hiroshima and Nagasaki were justified. Back then, the closest thing the US had to a surgical strike was the Doolittle raid. Taking out the leadership was not possible in WW2 Japan.

      No nuking civilian populations, please.

      1. What will be the repercussions of this strike? Unfortunately, probably a few more massacres between Shia and Sunni. Not that those relationships were doing swell before the strike.

But as Colonialista suggests, I think this might teach the strongmen fanatics to “know their place”. This one surgical strike from the US of A… hopefully …. maybe … might keep the leadership hunkered down.

Goddamn, the balls on Trump. No-one else could have done this.

I really hope it doesn’t backfire. And I think Trump is very, and stable, and maybe even genius.

      2. finally some sanity with the nuke talk.
        tq eagle.
the massive problem with the call for nukes, it just invites a couple muslim physicists with
the money and means to put one in a delivery truck . . . . .
        in downtown Manhattan.
        etc etc.
not to mention MILLIONS of innocent collateral casualties.
the mushroom clouds gonna show up soon enough, no need to expedite them.
‘be careful what ya wish for’.

        oh, and this comment:
“Goddamn, the balls on Trump. No-one else could have done this.”
        bingo dear world, BINGO.
*pay attention* to the message being sent dear world.

  3. Drop a load of shoes on the peckers at the funeral. They’ll get that too. “Cuz it ain’t that pretty at all.”

  4. Pallets of cash found their way indirectly to the Iranian mullahs. Now they know that Hellfire missiles can come even faster, and more accurately; and there’s no delivery to sign for. Now let’s see the Rods from God. Resolve, as distinct from bluster.

  5. Probably don’t have jurisprudence quality evidence that that warrants assassination, but apparently a very bad man.
It is doctrinal. A definite threat was identified, local authority ineffective, so unilateral take out.
But neo cons get to sabre rattle with lots of overseas help.
There could be some blowback though. Iranians may feel senior US officers are permissible targets. Iran will escalate over this.
Perhaps another drone attack, or some other deflection. China and Russia will no doubt abhor this barbaric act.
As will the Dems therefore. Perhaps they’ll impeach him over this; abuse of military power and obstruction of appeasement.

    1. Escalate? Oh, I hope so.

I want to see the look on Chrystia Chomiak’s face when President Trump tweets a picture of an American soldier in a lead-lined spacesuit, raising Old Glory over the radioactive ruins of Tehran.

    2. “Obstruction of appeasement” … I’m sure that’s an impeachable offence under the US Constitution. 🙂

Given the Iranian penchant for US hate ie “Death to America” for the past 40 odd years; this is simply return in kind.

Kind of a notice to Khamenei that “we can find you, should that be necessary”…

      Cheers

      Army Group “True North”
      1st Saint Nicolaas Army

      1. I’ve always argued to make it personal for terrorists. We don’t invade the country while you hide behind human shields.
We target you, you, you. No more sending others off into martyrdom. We cut out the middle man and martyr you.
Allah may bless you but you’ll still be deader than driftwood.
Let that be a chilling warning to all the various state and non-state murdering terrorists.
In the end their long-suffering people get the benefit while we in the west get security.
Let them blowback, then in true Trump style, hit them back ten times harder.
Still processing over 48 hours, but am coming around to this is a good thing, especially when Dems hate it.
Unlike Scott Adams, I am prepared to comment now rather than waiting for all of the drunk celebrity tweets.

  6. Perfect response to the attack on the US Embassy, maybe there won t be too many wanting to get promoted to those now unfilled jobs. If they choose to continue their attacks on Americans in Iraq or anywhere else they now know what to expect. Guess they forgot theres a new Sheriff in town and this one is not on their side.

  7. This action should have been taken 40 years ago in response to all those “students” invading and occupying the American embassy in Tehran. Instead, a few months later, Carter ordered the mission that became the Desert One disaster, which also prolonged the occupation.

    1. Bingo. That is why I am sick and tired of hearing about Iranian opposition. I want them to exist. I want them to win. I just no longer believe they count. It has been four decades already. Time to reset has passed many times.

  8. I seem to recall that Obama used drone strikes. A lot.

With no complaints whatsoever from Ben Rhodes.

    1. As in Obamacare, Rhodes and his totalitarian ilk assume voters are too stupid to notice, so it’s ok to lie to them.

  9. I like how Ms. “Some People Did Something” got royally raked over the coals.

  10. And perfectly demostrates why the WEST ABSOLUTELY must cecede from this Cesspool of Anti-American – Anti Capitalist – Anti Semetic Leftist ShitHOLE that has become Eastern Canada..Not all of it, but much thereof.

Those Strikes were the EXACT response Required.
    Good on DJT.

You do not, nor ever will, make friends via kissing thine enemies (_i_).

I would see that POS Traitor HBO hung for his treasonous activities…right beside his fawning buddy PM Blackie.

  11. I suppose if the Americans were going to be forced to leave Iraq they thought they might as well leave in a blaze of aggression. The echoes of this act in the American public depend on whether the US sustains significant casualties in their retreat. If so, I dont think Trump will be re- elected in 2020.

  12. “Real question is, will those with congressional authority step in and stop him? I know I will.”

She is one stupid twit….and has no reason to be in the piss-ant House… she and Pelosi are useless piss-ants who don’t know how insignificant they really are…..

    1. He’s probably too bombed to even understand what happened, let alone express himself in a coherent manner.

  13. Question: What the hell is a senior Iranian military leader doing in Iraq? I’d appreciate a link to an explanation if anyone can find one.

    1. That question …. why was he there…. was my first reaction to the news.
There are many related questions as well …..

      1. Caught that too.
The other thought I had was that the media is in the business of forming opinion not providing information. In the very next breath they are telling you what to think:

“ The targeted killing of Gen. Qassem Soleimani, the head of Iran’s elite Quds Force, could draw forceful Iranian retaliation against American interests in the region and spiral into a far larger conflict between the U.S. and Iran, endangering U.S. troops in Iraq, Syria and beyond.”

        “Could” draw retaliation.
        “Endangering” US troops

Uhm yeah, like how yesterday after the US troops showed up and the so-called mourners (aka Iranian proxies) packed up their belongings and got the hell out of Dodge.
The reality seems that Trump has called Iran’s bluff. Trump has moved this beyond the proxy stage and Iran if they respond must either do the deed themselves or find a proxy still willing (that the US doesn’t already have a bead on) to dirty their hands for them. After yesterday’s pullout by the “mourners” I strongly doubt their are anymore proxies willing to take on the task. The mullahs in Iran now have to act and frankly they have neither the means or the reach outside of Iran.
I predict the most they can do is issue a fatwah and hope some doufus will be stupid enough to try something while the US is waiting and watching. Other than that they will be hiding in some underground bunker.

  14. Soleimani had a long history of leading Iranian actions in the region, and was well traveled throughout all Iranian points of strategic interest in the Middle East. He was frequently in Iraq. If you have a curiosity of the tangled web that history weaves, one of his first international actions was providing critical intel to the U.S. when they first engaged the Taliban in Afghanistan. https://www.indiatoday.in/world/story/general-soleimani-had-helped-us-upstage-taliban-in-afghanistan-post-9-11-1633600-2020-01-03
Here are some quick reads (although bias) on what his role was in Iraq: https://www.ft.com/content/b40922da-d6c9-11e4-97c3-00144feab7de
    https://jcpa.org/irans-quds-force-commander-visits-iraq-to-bring-the-country-under-iranian-influence/
I find his assassination to be exceedingly concerning. Soleimani was a very important figure in Iran and Iranian leadership has little choice but to retaliate due to this. Perhaps cooler heads will prevail, but at this point I think the odds of a full blown conflict between Iran and the US stand at 95% within the next six months. One never knows how conflict capabilities play out until they unfold, but having seen Iran’s precision cruise missile strikes against ISIS in Syria, its downing the US spy drone in 2019 and the results of the strikes on Saudi Arabia’s oil fields, I don’t think an engagement with Iran will be as easy as many of the commenters on this site believe, and the fallout will be monumental throughout the Middle East. It might be prudent to look at oil stocks in the coming days.

    1. The hand wringing ….. what will Iran do to retaliate…..will be news for the next 2 weeks. It’s a theme already gaining momentum.

How about throwing a cruise missile at the US embassy in Baghdad?
No, that will bring massive retaliation. Because, like chess, you have to consider the consequences to an aggressive move.

Wack a mole is the likely response by the Iranians. Hostages is another possibility. US citizens need to leave Iraq immediately.

  15. I think it’s important to note what the other side is thinking… how their retaliation will be carried out and such, who they’ll target, how they’ll proclaim a grand victory. It’s easy enough to guess, as it’ll be at the BBC or the Guardian in bold type, and above the fold.
The tentacles of Iran are deeply embedded in many countries of the world.. the retaliations may carry on for years. Do they live for anything else but revenge?

“Three days of national mourning have been declared in Iran for the top general.”

“A government spokesman said the country’s top security body would meet today to discuss the “criminal act” that led to his death.”

“Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said “severe revenge awaits the criminals” behind the strike, while Iran’s Foreign Minister Javad Zarif called it an “act of international terrorism”.

    https://www.bbc.com/news/live/world-middle-east-50980663

I actually hope for a change in American policy, that there isn’t a rebuilding phase to this dustup.
Leave the widows crying in the streets. Their houses in rubble.

  16. “Ding dong the witch is dead”

Heh. Betcha’ Soleimani is sitting in some ethereal paradise right now, wailing about the cruelty of fate. “Oh WOE is me! Here I am FINALLY with my 70 virgins, and my ding-dong has been shot-off!!!”

  17. But again, most Cucknadians miss the bigger headline…

Justin has been in Costa Rica for 14 days now.

  18. I Love Donald Trump !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    The anti-Obama.

Hey Obama – Dude, you paying attention?

    1. No, just a “revered military leader.” The question is, revered by whom, besides the Squad, terrorists and the entire Dem party.

  19. furthermore, being a long time and clearly very successful businessman, Trump is accustomed to
spotting and using bluff himself when called for.
difference now is, as POTUS, when he chooses to step out of bluff mode, then things REALLY get done.
    like this.
it’s the best of both worlds, and the *only* player capable and willing to act in this manner is
the present occupant of the oval office.

    bravo, bravo, bravo Donald Trump.

  20. and if it comes to that, I firmly believe as (literally and figuratively) a student of history, the correct strategy is to flatten EVERYTHING the enemy possesses. kill and burn it all. plow up their fields and do like the Romans did to Carthage.
smash and burn, bomb them to the point of ‘rearranging the rubble’. then and only then can your people go back to tending their shops, farming their fields, raising their families.

utter devastation on a truly unprecedented massive scale.

    if it comes to that.
