Using this control to stopgap or prevent an arguement The Internet ‘Robber Barons’ do not need to gain approval to The Airways of Canada as they already own them.

      Moving a bit further; If the Alphabet/Google own the Airways of Canada then will ‘Cabotage’ become normal in Canada and then with increased ‘foreign’ Airline steady usage expand the ownership of Airways international. — I can’t believe this would ever enter into Just in thinking.

      As a rule I would like my PM, and Premier, to have had children — preferably more than two. It puts a lot of things in perspective; it shows you are willing to make a sacrifice for the future. If you have been able to navigate the diaper change routine, etc… you will have an important set of life skills to inform your decisions. Clearly, it is not a fool-proof indicator — think Shiny and Scheer — but having a generational outlook can be helpful. Having been a Generation in Politics without it tells us something else!

    2. There’s a slight problem with battery powered planes!! The batteries weigh more than the cargo the plane can carry. That would be perfect for Trudeau who ran two jet airliners (powered by JP4 jet fuel, a kerosene based fuel) during his campaign. If he had a battery powered DC-7, he could sit in the one single passenger seat while he flies to China to buy more batteries.

  4. The sad thing is that WestJet is no longer the airline that Clive Beddoe founded. It’s become too big and too arrogant. When I first bought its shares about 15 years ago, its staff was only too pleased to serve me when I mentioned I was a shareholder. Those people knew who they were working for.

    There have been times, though, in which WJ was as rude, belligerent, and inept as Air Canada. Mention that one is a shareholder, the attitude seemed to be: “Who do you think you are? If you don’t like our service, sell your shares.”

    On the other hand, WJ is the best airline in western Canada that I’ve flown in recent years.

    Sims can afford to be a pompous ass. WestJet was just taken private by Onex and I, and my fellow shareholders, were paid out. It wouldn’t surprise me if WJ’s management will be changed and, if he’s sent packing, he gets a nice bundle out of it.

      1. Onex tried to buy Air Canada several years ago but couldn’t get a deal. At least with WJ, the company now has an airline in its portfolio.

  5. Living in the West means a choice between WJ and AC. That is no choice as AC is still a disaster. I will only fly them if I can use my Aeroplan points which is a joke in itself. My interaction with WJ has always been positive.

  7. In surprising news CN Rail is moving it’s Canadian Rail Traffic Control operations to Edmonton from Montreal, after closing out most of the Toronto operations over the last few years. One would have expected that they would have closed Edmonton instead, since Montreal is the HQ. Turns out the new CEO is going harder on Cost control than even Hunter Harrison did many years ago, and Edmonton is cheaper than Montreal.

    1. Hunter Harrison also worked for CP and it was under his management that its share price began rising dramatically. I should have held on to my shares and sold closer to $200 than the $100 I settled for. Still, I didn’t do too badly as I held those shares for several years when the price traded within a narrow range but I collected dividends instead.

    2. It is hard to see Edmonton as being cheaper than Montreal. In terms of straight costs. Maybe in terms of taxes. Could it be that CN sees rail over pipelines as a tactic and is getting closer to its customers?

But their War against the Machine has been going for a year. The spark that started that, was initially high fuel costs and costs of living and immigration. They have been co opted by the unions. But many of the yellow vests are still raging against Macron over immigration and cost of living.
    The German Farmers have been protesting with thousands of tractors plugging cities. The Americans elected Trump in 2016 and he has been struggling against the Machine both in the Republican and the Democratic Party as well as their Deep State and Intel Agencies.
    The Brits have now done the same electing Boris. Canada is not there yet. We are a different breed of sheep here. Canadians seldom rebel. In fact Canadians rather enjoy the shit and abuse. In fact Trudeau could feed Canadians hot steaming plates of shit and they would ask for more.

    So really can the Democratic process actually function in Canada. Canadians have a unique problem. The Yanks, the EU and the Brits have functioning Democracies. Canadians do not.
    In Canada we do not have one man one vote. We have never had a functioning Democracy. Quebec and Atlantic Canada have enjoyed an unfair advantage that can never be fixed with the present system.

  11. I can’t say whether WEXIT will take hold or not but Alberta and Saskatchewan can take steps in the meantime. In Newfoundland, Danny Williams had the Canadian flag stripped off all provincial government buildings after a dispute with the feds over offshore oil royalties (that sure got attention). Exit from the Canada Pension Plan which will cause financial pain to the rest of Canada (except Quebec which has already left the CPP). How about booing the national anthem at hockey and football games (and not the U.S.anthem). Form a provincial police force and give the RCMP the boot.

    I think that the Trudeau re-election will doom Canada in the long run, but we need to have smart and in-touch people on our side making the case for the best deal possible for the (inevitable?) split-up.
