Green Acres

Watch, as the National Farmers Union throws agriculture under the bus in service of the climate agenda of their NDP masters.

A report released Wednesday by the National Farmers Union concludes that some elements of old-fashioned mixed farming combined with the latest technology can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and keep more farm families on the land.

“The climate crisis and the farm crisis really share many of the same causes,” said farmers union president Katie Ward, who raises about 100 head of sheep near Ottawa. […]

It says biofuels and electrification would cut emissions and costs — electric tractors are already being developed. On-farm renewable power generation would help. So would more efficient use of farm inputs, aided by technology.

But what really needs to happen is a move away from big-money, big-acreage, big-machine farming, the report concludes.

Nice tractor, Bess.

  1. how stupid are these people? Around here 50 acres are tilled and seeded in about 1/2 hour. Big machinery does the trick real well!!

    1. Yes but that’s with modern equipment. We must save the planet and anything more than a two horse team is excessive. Billions will starve you say? Well, it’s all for the greater good! Forward!!!! Or something like that.

  2. I’m not surprised. I grew up in the Fort St. John area. I still know lots of good people there, but there are also some who are just plain barking mad. I think many of them are from Lotusland who wanted to get away from that part of the province, but who also took their loony ideas with them.

  3. I work in the oil industry in the Peace Region and I have zero problem with this. There is a point where corporations have too much power and influence and your life utilizes too much modern technology.

    1. Everybody is officially nuts. If only those morons were the first to starve because of their policies.

      1. until they blame China and the developing world……it’s all a scam

It used to be that Canada’s emissions were so small it didn’t matter…..not it’s even the US’s emissions are so small

    2. Dude you might want to consider just how the planet will be able to feed 8 billion people without the current tech and methods.

      1. Simple! They need to dieeeeee! Just as there are “too many corporations” … there are “too many people”. It’s “green” to thin the herd.

    3. I suppose you’re against the Site C dam as well.

I grew up with the oil industry. My father made a good living as a machinist because of it. The families of most of the people I grew up with were either involved with farming or the oil business. I myself spent 3 undergraduate summers at the plant in Taylor more than 40 years ago, back when it had the refinery.

I’m not about to bash that business.

Over the years, Fort St. John also added forestry to its local industries. Unfortunately, it got clobbered thanks to Prinz Dummkopf and John Andrew Horganweaver. Louisiana Pacific closed its board mill this past summer after being there for 20 years, throwing nearly 200 people out of work. Canfor temporarily its facilities and, as far as I know, hasn’t started up again.

Corporations have too much power? How about dim-witted or vile politicians who make sure that there’s no market for what people produce.

    4. The so-called corporate farm in Canada is still the family farm. Incorporation becomes necessary so that the operation isn’t bankrupted by income tax.

    5. It already does for everyone, most just don’t know it. Like the pipeline protesters in plastic boats. Someone needs to confiscate all her petrochemical based things in that picture but we don’t want to see her bare foot w/o the polyester stretch capri sweats next to a mule fighting to till a poop fertilized field w/o weed killer with her heritage seeds.

    6. “your life utilizes too much modern technology”

Dude – don’t be a retard. I am one of few left who grew up in the era of the two holer. Walking through a narrow path in the snow to taker a dump sitting on a 40 below wooden seat wasn’t a lot of fun. If we restrict technology, people will starve. I won’t. Our whole civilization is 100% based on technology and cheap energy and we keep pulling more people into the developed world. To arbitrarily stop the people of the shithole world from ever developing is unfair. I guess it might not matter to you if billions of brown people starve.

      1. Civilization has been based on technology since the first apes picked up rocks and sticks to hit things with.

      2. East solution to keeping your cheeks from freezing in the outhouse at 40 below.
In the cabin at the lake, we kept the toilet seat behind the wood stove.
The seat went out with you and came back in with you.

        1. Styrofoam works well. It eliminate the shock of sitting on -20c cold whatever is housing the hole.
Mind you at those temps – the smell is way less offensive.
My grandparents didn’t get indoor plumbing until the late 70s.
Grew up with a well in the front yard and outhouse in the back.

  4. Canada needs a “Back to the Land Movement” led by its finest Socialists and Progressives in the NDP.

Canada needs to follow in the steps of the those great socialist leaders of the past like Mao and Stalin and take a “Great Leap Forward” by collectivizing the farms and ranches of Canada. Canada should also embrace the Social Justice and Equality Plans of Chairman Pol Pot, and empty the cities back to the land, where everyone can labor together in harmonious unity as a glorious peasant communing with nature every day.

Please try it! It worked so well before.

    1. Don’t forget the the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia. They knew how to get everyone into farming, or at least into the ground.

  5. I see she has a new oil filter in her hand and a plastic pan under the tractor’s oil pan. If we get rid of fossil fuels, where will she get the oil for her tractor’s oil change?

I suppose we can go always back to the carbon neutral and environmentally friendly use of whale oil like we did in the Eighteenth Century? Maybe instead they will look to the future and Go Soylent Green rendering the blubber of land whales instead?

    1. Why does one change the oil of their tractor out in the field? When I had a brief tour on a Klamath Falls, OR ranch, we had a large shop building where we stored and serviced all the farm equipment. I suspect this hippie, dreadlocked, “farmer” is like so many of the “back to the earth’ers” who haven’t a clue about what they’re doing. I’m willing to bet her tractor hasn’t been properly serviced in a decade … because she’s clueless about how machines work … clueless about how an ICE works. No, not because she’s a woman … there are plenty of women who understand farm equipment … but because she’s a dreadlocked stinky “alternative lifestyle” hippie, who likely grew up in Toronto in a comfy leftist home.

And because maintenance and service are messy, thankless jobs that lefties don’t like doing … like the lefties in charge of PG&E for decades who have let their infrastructure degenerate into a fire-starting death trap.

    1. My father was a member of the National Farmers Union for a few years when they started out in the 1960s. There were high hopes they would accomplish something. I don’t know why exactly but after a few years he gave up on them.

  6. Looks like most of her lifestyle is financed with her Union salary. That is clearly nothing more than a hobby farm.

    1. Back in the early 60’s my “cityfied” aunt wanted to help my grandparents herd a small group of cows down the road. There she was horseback in only a bikini. To this day I am sure the cow that turned around looked at her and bawled like crazy was saying, “Gawd girlie, you look stupid!”

  7. Hobby farmers that sprout up around cities waste land. A city couple who bought some land near me called the police when the large farm next to it spread liquid manure on his field. Needless to say the farmer told the police to get the fuck off his land. Which they did.

  8. Legault’s dreadlocks appropriate a distant culture not her own so there should be no issue with her imitating a farmer but if she’s really gonna work on that Ford she should have a pair of work gloves and a baseball cap.

  9. We had one of those Universal tractors on the farm when I was a kid. They were made in Romania and assembled in Saskatoon by Romanian workers who were on a very tight leash. Every surface of that tractor that had a gasket also had an oil leak, it ran on three cylinders until it came up above normal operating temperature then #4 would kick in. I remember a car full of guys from the plant in S’toon coming out to replace the injectors one day, two mechanics whose toolbox consisted of a set of crescent wrenches and a couple of tough looking dudes who My Dad explained to me later were the communist party / whatever Romania’s KGB thugs were called sent along to make sure they didn’t try anything stupid.
That tractor was half the price of an IHC or Deere which was why my Old man decided to give it a try, a few years later we traded it on an IHC which is still running on our farm now.

    1. Romania’s version of the KGB was known as the Securitate. Lots of those guys ended up being shot down in the streets like dogs when Ceasescu was falling.

    2. Doug

That contraception probably hasn’t run in decades. This was a staged photo shoot.
Show the proles what Ag looks like – 3rd world Ag.

The NFU is stuck in 1930’s socialism.

    3. “made in Romania and assembled in Saskatoon by Romanian workers”
After the fall of communism a lot of that state run ‘enterprise’ closed up shop.
A bunch of those tractors sat in crates north of 33rd St in Saskatoon but they seem to have disappeared.

    4. When were those tractors built in Saskatoon? I lived there in the early ’80s and I don’t remember hearing about that.

        1. “Probably just some final assembly”
That’s what I remember and the units waiting for assembly were sitting in open framed wooden crates exposed to the sun and elements. Not good. The operation was still going until communism collapsed in the early nineties. The tractors sat there for a few more years after that.

  10. She probably has a massive Yeast Infection ingrown toe nails, and chronic diarrhea from eating a vegetarian diet. That one would take a 40 lb. er and 2 brown paper bags. As the old Madam of the Best Little Whorehouse in Texas used to say. ” In and Out No Round and Round”

    1. You pay for what you get, whether you get what you wanted or what someone else things you should get..

  11. If I had to guess, she was chosen for virtual-signaling, more than any actual success as a producer.

    1. It says she was elected NFU Women’s Vice President by acclamation. I.e. nobody else would take the position.

  12. NFU, OFA, CFFO – shrug, what’s the difference? They are ALL throwing their memberships under the Great Green Bus.

  13. “Legault, a first-generation farmer, is the owner of Hip Peace Produce and is involved with the Northern Environmental Action Team’s Northern Co-Hort Program.”

So some kind of hippie LARPing as a farmer… and telling actual famers, who feed the world, how to farm.

    1. “and telling actual famers, who feed the world, how to farm.”

Pretty much. And it looks like the actual farmers are just sitting there and taking it – green energy, closed marketing systems, grants, subsidies, and all.

  14. When virtually every corporate and institutional entity is bending to the green theocracy, it is entirely unsurprising that the old communist NFU is doing so also.

  15. 8 billion people could possibly be fed with today’s tech. Distribution is the problem. Socialism cannot solve that. The Hand that feeds does better distribution by accident. Whereas socialism is cataclysmic in this regard.

Stupid people. Cynthia should be there with her high heels and show us how it’s done.

    1. Distribution isn’t the problem either. It’s having money to pay, just like it’s always been. So you take money away from the rich and give it to people who can’t afford to feed themselves…and they go out and buy drugs, alcohol and plastic crap from China.

  16. Billy Mike

Agreed. Maybe a babe like the one who interviewed Rex a few days ago?

A pic of her in her pencil skirt climbing the ladder into a high wheel sprayer would …

    1. ABT I know you would prefer this one over the one Rex was ignoring. With this one you get the works, hairy armpits, hairy legs, probably commando, toe jam etc. Very organic. Besides a good rooster just don’t care. They all need lovin. Do your duty.

  17. Someone is selling Snake Oil and their buying this fake and dangerous Remedy for a fake illness
