      1. Very astute ABT. I posted the same story 2 days back. It is a major geopolitical shift underway but the sheep are not paying attention. Blackie has been slapped hard in the peepee and reprogrammed. The Alberta Rebellion has scared the shite out of them back east. And I think it is too late. Albertans have a quiet determined anger going on, and are pissed at the grass roots level. Hence Kenney and talk, talk, talk, put them back to sleep. Kenney is a liar and does not keep his word. For example the carbon tax. Back on in January at 30 dollars a tonne. Carbon Tax is just an additional GST. It is a tax on everything that moves, food, fuel, heating, trucking etc etc. Albertans are going to lose their shit very soon. They know that.

      I always felt like Laura Bush was a very suitable first Lady. I admired her poise and deportment ( she was a librarian after all). She brought some class to the place. Following clinton she was a breath of fresh air.

      At the outset I wasn’t a fan of Mrs Trump but she has acquitted herself well. She looks great in the xmas vid but what else would you expect of her. She coulda had on a pair of Wranglers for the tree decorating….

    Worth a read. One main point is that the internal debate within the party is “sucking the oxygen out of the party”. Actually, the ongoing battle may bring in new members on both sides, gearing up for a vote next year at the Conservative party convention. His action against Salim Mansur and conniving with Warren Kinsella against the UPP party certify him as a Red Tory. Scheer must go.

      I know what some are saying: “We have the PPC party. No need to get involved with the Conservative Party”. Yes, but many people belong to two parties, as an effective way to promote their views. This cuts across ideological lines.

      Rob Anders was a fairly right-wing Alberta MP a few years ago (he was pushed out by a Red Tory during a nomination fight). But in an interview with a conservative media outlet (when he was still an MP), he said the best way for conservatives to push their views was to join a party and to get involved with party platform making at the local level.

      Mr Anders was a bit of a gadfly, a wild card really, but here he makes sense. Instead of despairing, get involved.

I always looked upon them as an opportunity to kick some ass, but then again I came from a large family and I was 3rd from last kid so had lots of opportunity to learn street fighting. And lots of coaching on self defense from older brothers. Many a day at public school, I would fight right through lunch break. A bloody nose or a loose tooth was worn with pride. And it did not matter if you got the strap from the principal or teacher especially if you won. Hell that was icing on the cake. Bragging rights. I flipped through a copy of Farmers Forum a few days ago and came across a lengthy article about farmers being persecuted for altering wetlands; one in particular was serving 30 days in jail and had a huge fine to pay. Predictably, the article didn’t touch on the rights-trampling part of the story, but rather, its intended purpose seemed to be nothing more than a warning of sorts to one and all who had any plans to sink a plow into land where cattails grew, grow or might one day conceivably grow. In other words, it amounted to a sort of Expiring Property Rights for Dummies. It pointed out that there was no requirement for any level of government to inform a landowner at any time that it was undertaking a bureaucratic seizure of his land, and that the responsibility to determine any and all land restrictions rested one hundred percent on the shoulders of the property owner. The article ended with a few quotes from a farm org representative who true to his appointed form and function, (a) expressed concerns about this state of affairs and (b) assured us that his Organization was engaged in some advocacy which will, with little doubt, prove to be yet another entirely pro forma process that will not only do nothing to remedy the problems, but by its effete timidity will only serve as further encouragement to the land-grabbers and as a testament to the absolute servility of the leadership of Ontario’s farm organizations.

  25. An interesting dilemma is emerging in international taxation. US companies are supposed to declare ALL their income in the US yet use a series of complex transactions (and corporations) to hide international profits from the US tax collector. More and more, countries are wading into international tax issues because they want the taxes that could be generated by digital and/or online purchases within their home country. Same thing is happening in the US between states (e.g. California wants taxes paid by Californians buying in Nevada).

    While Amazon is seen as one of the most aggressive tax avoiders, it’s not just US companies playing by these rules. At some point these international companies are going to be squeezed by their own governments desperate for more tax money. Not sure that will be helpful to those companies (in the areas of employment, for example).
