  1. Very interesting.
    But “fair trade organic cocaine”
Makes one nostalgic for back alleys.

    A couple of the references:

And a quote from Edward Snowden:

// Deep in a tunnel under a pineapple field—a subterranean Pearl Harbor–era former airplane factory—I sat at a terminal from which I had practically unlimited access to the communications of nearly every man, woman, and child on earth who’d ever dialed a phone or touched a computer. Among those people were about 320 million of my fellow American citizens, who in the regular conduct of their everyday lives were being surveilled in gross contravention of not just the Constitution of the United States, but the basic values of any free society.

It was, simply put, the closest thing to science fiction I’ve ever seen in science fact: an interface that allows you to type in pretty much anyone’s address, telephone number, or IP address, and then basically go through the recent history of their online activity. In some cases you could even play back recordings of their online sessions, so that the screen you’d be looking at was their screen, whatever was on their desktop. You could read their emails, their browser history, their search history, their social media postings, everything. […]
This led to the practice known as LOVEINT, a gross joke on HUMINT and SIGINT and a travesty of intelligence, in which analysts used the agency’s programs to surveil their current and former lovers along with objects of more casual affection—reading their emails, listening in on their phone calls, and stalking them online. //

    Edward Snowden Permanent Record 2019

All the recent alarms & pressure tactics regarding Huawei’s G5 services are about the danger of China trying to do what the U.S. government is already doing.

    1. Ed Snowden appears to have thrown his life away for a nation of ingrates. How many people do you know that give a shit about Edward Snowden?

The message I get from this is that if you know something horrible and you can either shout it out and be destroyed or keep your mouth shut and live your life … it’s probably better for you to keep your mouth shut and live your life, such as it is.

Sad, but technology has made it possible for the entire population of the world to be tightly controlled through massive surveillance and robots and I’m not talking Robbie here. We may be nearing the end of any possible return to individual freedoms.

About the only freedom we have left is the freedom to go to work and pay half of our check to the government to ‘look after us’.

  2. Fascinating. First heard about “Tor” and the “dark web” quite a while ago on a Podcast, the name of which escapes me right now. It detailed the exploits of a gentleman who founded “Silk Road” a fairly lucrative drug trading website which is featured in the video. As I remember he wanted to expand his business into the firearms trade but faced harsh criticism from his sellers and buyers about the “moral issues” surrounding such an expansion, LOL. I understand he’s facing a rather long prison sentence right now having finally been caught by the feds who tracked and id’ed his ISP number from an obscure server located in Iceland I think.

    Anyways, thanks for sharing Kate.

  3. I am confident this one will meet the thread meme; or hopeful.

Threats from Iran [persia] provide additional evidence of the weakness of the Theocracy and the false narrative in ‘Return of the Caliphate’.
Turning over the command of the Iran Military to China and somewhat to Russia as a similar Reginal Hegemony confirms inability through ignoring China’s mistreatment of the Muslim millions surviving oppression and imprisonment in China.
Reminiscent of U.S.A. President Nixon’s pivot to China, prior to the Economic success of Capitalism. Vice-Chair Deng’s wisdom in setting aside the Dogma residue of Collective Solidarity used during the Great March t1940’s Revolution.
The pivot of a U.S.A. reach out to mainland China, set into motion the collapse of Russia’s economic collapse, as the Russian Military paranoia moved the Russian budget use deeper into weapons and away from societal needs of their Civilian population.
Vice Chair Deng’s “White or Black, the colour of a Cat does not matter along as it catches mice.” also changed the focus for Taiwan. Better a source for Economic Expansion information than a means to threaten retaliation for any interference in China’s situation
Somewhat similar to the present unnecessary violence created in Hong Kong actually generated through the present Deep Rentrenchment of past China’s millennium(s) Bueaucracy hegemony paranoia.
A not very different paranoia of the similar Deep State Bureaucracy paranoia in the U.S.A. with the attempted Coup to maintain a > Brother/Sister Hood < providing self-interest comfort and legacy of apporbation regardless of the credibility of the existing processes to provide Government's obligations in the Social Contract with the Sovereign Ordinary Average Citizen maintaining the "Free Speech Imperative and Transparency" required to advance the "Great Experiment" for future generations of "We The People……." and unto all other Nations.
An advancement of Nationhood only partly accomplished in The Post Colonial Regions of Canada with establishing a Nation of Franco North Americans. Any further special consideration for the Franco Nation within the Federation of Anglo Canada's former Colonies in British North America will become increasingly problamitc.
Destruction of the semi-Sovereign Ordinary Average Canadian Citizens: merely and obviously driven by the paranoia of maintaining a hegemony of self-interest comfort: is untenable and will require cruelty to maintain.
Using a concept proven by the failure of Democracy within the Original Beacon of ___ Human Rights & Responsibiliitis of the Individual ____examplified by the Money Interests of 'The City' control of Westminister ignoring the Brexit Directive of Sovereign Ordinary Average British Ctizens must not be used as a transfer authority.
Maintaining the long past British Empire Victorian Era during its decline and 'only acceptabale to Canada's First & only Post British Empire Colony, as means of securing Financial Support to avoid assumption of the U.S.A. after the American Civil War:___ under a Privy Council Office — coded control — of the Federal Bureaucracy and/or such an extension of Federal Beuarcracy into the Federation of Anglo-Canada's former British North American Colonies

    1. I think there must be a physical shortage of hair brushes and combs in Britain. Look at Boris Johnson, or that guy who runs Parliament. It’s ridiculous.

  4. Call me paranoid but…

How do we know sites like TOR aren’t actually government sting operations?

I seem to recall hearing that ISPs keep a record of their client’s recent browsing history.

    Big Brother is watching you.

    1. Not the ISPs especially, (maybe at the demand of local police for a specific matter) they don’t have the storage. But this is what the NSA is all about, with the assistance of Google et al.

    2. preCISELY dm.
likewise how many so-called ‘proxy’ sites?

watch out for the hornets nest there fellas, SUMBUDDY GONNA GET STUNG BAD.
      ha ha ha !!!!!

there are some things I know about IT they *didnt* teach in university.

  5. I understand that “the dark web” was also invented by the US DARPA/CIA/NSA.

The internet was ideal for agents filing reports and remaining in communicaiton but the opposition could also join in, as it were. So, the “dark web” was developed.

  6. dark net.

    true story:
back around 2008 I cited the existence of said network in a conversation.
what I did not say was my words were only *speculative*. I did not at that time know about
the tor network, but based my statement on what was possible.
then I found out it was all TRUE.

also, you hard liners @ SDA *still* think Snowden the uber whistleblower is the ‘bad guy’? hmmmm????
