“Why did the city of Calgary give $340,000 to an anti-oilsands lobby group…?”

If I didn’t know better, I’d swear Nenshi’s an agent of the Saudis.

Would the city of Windsor, Ont., home of Canada’s auto industry, give a third of a million dollars to anti-car lobbyist? Would Hamilton hire an anti-steel lobby?

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation revealed this shocking payment. But instead of expressing embarrassment, Mayor Naheed Nenshi admitted he knew all about it, and supported it.

Nenshi didn’t dispute that Pembina has nine lobbyists registered in Ottawa to attack the oil patch. But he claimed Pembina was also a “scientific think-tank” and it was for this expertise that the city paid them so richly. When asked by Sun Media if the city would ever pay the pro-free market Fraser Institute for advice, Nenshi was dismissive. “As soon as they hire scientists who actually know something,” he sniffed.

Actually, I don’t know better.

    1. Re-elected twice. I get the first re-election, the 2013 flood washed him back into office.

2017, he should’ve been shown the door, however I guess it was the scary fiscal conservative who ran against Nenshi handed him the win. Conservatives seem to be great at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Nenshi still can’t balance a freaking budget or show up for a speech on time.

      1. ya, voting patterns in canaDUH.
I have a reasonable layman’s grasp of quantum mechanics, why the ‘C’ in ‘E=MC2’ ( hint: what *kind* of energy?),
all sorts of ‘trade secrets’ over the years (Im the only bloke I know who separated the motion sensor from the motion sensor activated lights apparatus to leave *them* high up but the sensor at a more strategically lower height for better performance)
et friggin CETERA in my 60+ years, but migawd, voting behaviour in CanaDUH puzzles me more every time there’s an election.

why why why why did CALGARY with all those gawdfersaken OIL PATCH ZHOBS put a saudi dork like THAT in ‘orifice’ TWICE so far?
why? why why why did rachel NUTley get voted in ‘orifice’ at all ????????
and ontariowe gave the keys to the kingdumb to wynnedfarm enough times to BANKRUPT us.
why ??? well in that case the CONservatist gave us the chipmunk hudak to choose. or not. most didn’t.
why didn’t they? BECAUSE HE WAS A G*****MNED CHIPMUNK.

same thing goes for the smug hard core presssssssston maaaaaaaaaning

    2. We are giving Canada away to the wogs of the middle east.
Our descendants will piss on our graves.
Political Correctness and an abandonment of out culture is all it took.
Only Trump can slow this atrocity down, but he cannot stop it.

      1. Duke, we will have no descendants because our kids don’t like sex. They think perversion is how society came to be. Poop on your wiener does not create a child.

    3. Youngsters who think they can get something for nothing. Nenshi and his cohorts are always looking for provincial and federal funds. Remember his push for the Olympics?

  1. The Purple Princess is as far left as anyone can get. Only dyed-in-the-down CUPE and low-information types vote for him. Unfortunately, there are too many of those in this city. Hence, it gets re-elected each time.

  2. Nenshi is the strongest argument against the possibility of western separatism. The City that apparently represents the hearts and minds of western grievance, let alone home to the Canadian Oil Patch, can’t even elect a Mayor on their side. What kind of “conservatives” would elect someone who supports the Pembina Institute and denigrates the Fraser institute?

    1. Cities are the strongest argument against western separatism. We need to solve the problem of cities before we start another country that contains urban populations that can vote to impose their idiocies on the rural.
Saskatoon’s city council just voted to “fund” a new main central library building and they said “Saskatoon deserves this.”

I live in Saskatoon and we do deserve this, but I don’t mean that in a good way. We are going to grow and build until we rival Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg in traffic congestion, crime, etc. Thank God for the climate, the only thing that will save us from Vancouver’s level of the homeless problem.

    2. My impression four years ago was that Nenshi was treated as a somewhat tedious clown.

      Not funny any more.

  3. What a pudgy weasel Nenshi is. Obviously has never heard of the old saying ” you don’t piss where you sleep”. I hope Calgarians do the right thing.

    1. If you look at the federal election results, Calgary was solidly Conservative. You can’t look at that result and conclude that Conservative voters didn’t vote for Nenshi or do they all stay home for Municipal elections?

      1. Hard to say.
I have never voted for him or any other liberal mayoral candidate. As soon as I see “want to help the poor” in the propaganda I move to the next candidate.

      2. I think most city people who attend here would agree that local politics get little attention from the public. Calgary has had turnouts of lower than 30%. Perfect conditions for activists to succeed simply by getting their vote out.
Nenshi won his first election by coming up the middle in a three way race. His opposition in the last two elections was weak.

  4. The Pembina Institute has serious conflict of interest Issues… They lobby the Government for Environmental Standards & then they Bill the Oil Industry for compliance…. It is Mafia like…Nice business you have.. Pay up or we Burn you down. Nice to get your Business plan given by Ottawa….

    1. They’re outraged oil patch gets “subsidies” fully half of which are taxes Pembina watermelon types think should be charged.

“The Self-confidence of the ignorant is one of the biggest disasters of the humanity!” Mehmet Murat ildan

    2. Half the people in Nenshi’s administration inside city hall have worked for the Pembina Institute. The other half have worked for the Sierra Club.

  5. Nenshi is an arrogant opportunist who aspires to federal politics, likely seeing himself as a cabinet minister for the new ministry of “eating beyond meat and growing pudgy, middle class peoplekind”.
I simply still cannot believe he is mayor of Cow town.

  6. It’s amazing how some can be so wrong yet so sure at the same time, adding a dose of arrogance, but Nenshi and his ilk pull it off.
With your money. Statists can’t resist the easy money and power of coercion afforded them by taxing air, even in oilpatch Calgary.
Even Bernie Sanders now says he won’t tax the rich after all and will concentrate his efforts on destroying the poor.
Same game, different place and time. Progressives cum Marxists create poverty which they purport to free us from.
Instead we just end up equally poor, pummeled by their transactions of decline and their drain on freedom and productivity.
We can all be free or we can all be equal, but we cannot all be equally free. But this bunch can make us equally unfree.
Or we can share misery with one another as the gilded ones make out like bandits on our dime, feasting on our labours.
We seem to be choosing the latter. When Canadians get fat and happy, they get careless and elect wingnuts. This time may be too late.

  7. Calgary – the “Home of the New West” so the sign says entering Calgary. What I want to know is – what was wrong with the old West?
Maybe all that testosterone from rootin’, tootin’ cowboys or good hard working oil patch(er)s, and Real Albertan Conservatives is too much for the “new improved era”! Meh!

    1. Lots of lefties yammer about the Fraser Institute…..but they can’t seem to ever counter their research. That’s pretty typical of leftists…..can’t argue the point, attack the source.

    2. I don’t bother reading the Fraser Institute’s stuff these days, having had some previous experience.
I do recall one of their “research” efforts in which they satisfied themselves that auto Insurance is cheaper in Alberta than in Saskatchewan.
Nor am I going to spend much time on their alternate Climate Change reports, featuring Ross McKitrick

      1. I speak from experience. When I moved from “state run insurance” Saskatoon, I saved a lot on Alberta insurance. Same when I moved from “state run insurance” BC back to Alberta. Blow it out your ear.

        1. Let me tell you a recent experience here is Saskabush. I had my car windshield replaced with SGI insurance. Cost before my deductible was $850 paid for by SGI. The place I had it done told me that the cost without SGI insurance would be just a little over $500. Interesting, so I verified the cost without SGI at another shop and sure enough a little over $500 without insurance. So
SGI is paying these shops an extra $350. You can’t fix stupid.

  8. I always assumed the only reason you would hire the Pembina Institute as consultants was so they wouldn’t attack you. Hey paison – you’ve got a nice restaurant there – it would be really bad if something happened to it.

  9. The link is to an article that’s over six years old (September 6, 2013).   While I’m sure Nenshi’s still a climate-alarmist goof, things have changed in Calgary over the last six years (mostly for the worse).

  10. Calgary hasn’t had a conservative mayor in over 40 maybe 50 years.

Nenshi won’t run again so he could care less. I look for him to land in Ottawa like the homo Winnipeg mare did.

Calgary’s finances are a mess. The current city council with one or two exceptions (new councillors) are to blame. The rest of them are just along for the ride.

    1. About 50 years ago our long standing county councilor quit. We tried to talk my father into running. His reply was, “Then everyone would think I couldn’t make a living farming.”

  11. i am by profession a theoretical physicist; but “science” has reached the point that when you hear a phrase containing the words “science” or “scientist” you should reach for your gun.

  12. Parasites shoveling money to other parasites pushing to re-elect the first parasites — closed loop corruption.

  13. Hey, they voted for this guy.
He went to Harvard for half a year, he knows stuff. Heh.
He did keep it a secret.
    Good luck.

  14. Youngsters who think they can get something for nothing. Nenshi and his cohorts are always looking for provincial and federal funds. Remember his push for the Olympics?

  15. lol…. so go the dreams of the Saskabertistanis….

Emporer Nenshi the First will be entertained at his royal court in Redmonton by the flounderings and slap fights of his twin fools, Gormless Goodale and Krazy Kenney. You’ll all be eating gruel and working at the wind farms and tithing 99% to the CUPE elites.

In other words, get your OWN shit in order before you a) blame everything on Ontario b) have your little mastabatory fantasies about Saskabertistan.

Glass houses, flat billies, glass houses.

  16. It’s not just an anti-oilsands lobby. Pembina also led the charge in the 2000s against the proposal by Bruce Power to build a power reactor in Western Canada. It didn’t help matters that the Premier of Alberta was an anti-technology dullard named Ed Stelmach.

  17. NENSHI is in MY opinion, nothing less than a FILTHY Fkn Muslim Brotherhood POS.

I say that for good reason. In Aug 2014 there were HAMAS demonstrations in downtown Calgary, there were also some counter demostrations…one at which an Israeli Family was set upon and savagely beaten by over ten HAMAS LowLife. The family all required Medical aid thereafter.

No Police ever showed up, no one said boo, our Filthy MAYOR couldn’t even open his filthy fat MOUTH to say that Calgary does not condone acts of MOB Violence. He said bugger ALL….Just as I would expect from a Muslim Brotherhood Operative & Salafist Sympathizer.

It took cell phone Video that Ezra was able to gather – brought to the Calgary Police Service before anything was done..

Sad indictment of this FAT Purple POS.
yea, and I dont even like him either. Another one that should end like Nicolae…

    1. I recall that incident and have been embarrassed about having him as Mayor of Calgary ever since. Ezra Levant saved the day. I think as an attentive former Sun News fan and current Rebel News supporter we could see that even Ezra was surprised and disillusioned by the guy.

I understand that there weren’t enough ballots at election time in Calgary and there were long line ups to vote him in. You can only guess what that means. One thing only. We are so screwed with this COMMIE at every turn. We see it everyday. Grants for this and that – junk art, a badly designed and costly Spanish-made foot bridge, money squandered on rent to house unrecyclable plastics, money squandered on an Oylmpic bid, money for an arena for rich hockey players etc, etc, etc and so on. There are probably a lot of secrets.

I just cringe when I see him on the news and I always look away if I don’t mute him out first. People must be sorry he is in. The rest are recipients of his largesse.

Does he always get what he wants from people just to shut him up from his velopharyngeal dysfunction? It’s enough to drive voters to the insane asylum…and put us on poverty row.

Enough. He needs to be ousted as Mayor. Trudeau can have him.

  18. Will anyone in Calgary remember this idiocy during the next civic election?

Next civic election is Oct. 2021. … there is no (zero!) indication that a pipeline will be started, in the process of being built, almost built, nor completed by then. None.
There are no, (zero!) indications of an actual economic turnaround in the Calgary region being on the horizon.

Aside from the chance of separation occurring “soon”, there is nothing. Nothing.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_Calgary_municipal_election

Pembina, wtf were these imbeciles thinking?
It’s not just Calgary, as cgh @ 4.49 pm indicates, it’s not just Alberta that this group has in its crosshairs.

  19. The reason why the first Gay Muslim Mayor in Canada is handing out money for anti-oil is that he is in collaboration with the Rockefellers. The Rockefellers are behind all the money for the anti-oil foundations trying to kill the Canadian oilsands industry.
Nenshi has his sights set on federal politics for a top cabinet or leader of the Liberal Party of Canada. With the deep pockets of his peeps he is well on his way to achieving those goals.

Here’s some of his resume towards that direction.

    https://newsroom.calgary.ca/city-of-calgary-to-join-global-city-technology-and-venture-capital-leaders-at-the-rockefeller-foundations-cityxchange-summit/

  20. Need to keep the professional “do gooders” out of government! There should be a tax on activism…

  21. People in this country really need to start paying more mind to municipal politics. That’s how these crackpots get elected, continuously, across the country. The get some good developer backing, nobody credible runs against them, they keep getting elected by the 25% of voters who actually show up to vote for these things.

  22. Pretty hard to get ahead when the enemy lives in the bedroom next to you. One can only hope that in the next Calgary election they will vote this traitor and those on the city council who support him out.
