A number of puzzled columnists and policy experts are currently trying to figure out why it was that Canada under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has broken with its tradition of voting down United Nations resolutions that denounce Israel and – as happened last week – joining the pile-on to condemn the only Jewish state in the world.
So far the working conclusion they’ve arrived at is that it was done because Trudeau covets a two-year seat at the Security Council and this is one way to win over votes at the notoriously anti-Israel body. That’s no doubt part of it.
There could be something else at play though: Maybe this is just what Canadian voters want. Or at least what one highly motivated and increasingly influential segment of the electorate wants.
In the months leading up to the election, a group called The Canadian Muslim-Vote (TCMV) was unapologetic in predicting the power the organized Muslim vote could yield over the 2019 federal election results.
“The Canadian Muslim community has the numbers to decide the winners and losers this election, which directly impacts the composition of the government we will have,” TCMV executive director Ali Manek wrote in a press release that went out on October 17 – just days before the election. “Muslim voters have turned out to the Advance Polls over Muslim Vote Weekend and we will be there on election day because we understand that we speak the loudest when we vote.”
Immigration, multiculturalism, democracy — pick any two.
In coming years it will be a fight between the commies in China and Islam who ends up controlling Canada. Or maybe like in other countries like Iran they will work together. And Blackie and his media lackies will welcome the diversity.

I dunno, but IMO, this theorizing is completely overblown: to me, it seems to be simply a case of some bureaucrat and the Canadian ambassador to the U.N. going rogue in the midst of an impending cabinet shuffle, wherein Chystia Freeland (useless, on the upside) was about to be shuffled out of Foreign Affairs, or Global Affairs, or whatever they call it these days. So they took advantage of the opportunity, in the same way that old Chretien’s assistant took advantage of an open microphone to call GWB a moron.
The idea that Trudeau, Jr. cooked this one up — and herein lies the truth — assumes that he is capable of independent critical thinking. He’s not — as if I need to say that. I’m gonna say he didn’t know about it, at the very least. Frankly, it reminds me of the Vindman/Sondland, etc. capers down south, wherein they think they’re in charge, but they ain’t.
By my read, when Parliament resumes, the opposition already has three hot-button issues to pursue:
– the C.N. strike;
– Seamus O’Reagan’s conflict of interest; and
– the U.N. vote.
And this all starts in about a week and a half, if not earlier.
I ain’t implying anything at all, but the largest Muslim population in SW Ontario resides in my wife’s cousin’s riding (Elgin-Middlesex-London), wherein Mrs. Vecchio won by 17,000 votes.
Quite apart from which, two of three of Boris’s most senior cabinets ministers are Muslim — the other one’s Jewish — and they’re about to win the largest majority in U.K. history and curtail immigration!

The diplomatic core is not given to going rogue. If they do their career is cut short. Once an election is called the business of the government continues on as usual. It matters not that a cabinet shuffle is in the offing.
