“Socialism, Simply”

“You’d think we’d have a solution by now to all these world problems.  You’d think with more human effort and resources spent on any other problem facing society, we’d have solved poverty, hunger, humanity, economics, sociology, and so forth.  But we haven’t.  We still need to debate.  We still need to discuss.  Some people are so ardent in their beliefs they’ll protest, commit assault, dox people, try to get people fired, and violate people’s freedom of speech.  We are just as far away from finding answers and solutions to these problems than when humans first started forming societies.”

  1. Suggest people read “The Rational Optimist” by Matt Ridley.

The human race is steadily improving life on this planet.

It’s not perfect, but Ridley provides real data showing how much better life is now versus 50 and 100 years ago, for just about every country on earth.

    1. well joe, it is entirely possible and has happened for millennia that ‘things’ can take a downturn, a reversal.
      a ‘trend’ is NOT permanent.

  2. “We are just as far away from finding answers and solutions to these problems”

Wrong. We’re much closer. It’s just that that doesn’t sell newspapers.

  3. poverty is less and less a problem

i am not saying no one is poor

I am saying the percentage of poor people is going down

and what we call poor today is a life of luxury compared to what poor people had 50 or 100 years ago

a poor person today usually has an aprtement a tv, a fridge even air conditioning

we have not gotten rid of poverty but it is improving a lot

    1. I emigrated to the U.S. with my parents 63 years ago from Hong Kong.
While there, we lived in a resettlement area in an apartment in a real house. But it was only a shell. The only thing it had was electricity, and that was only installed a couple of years before we left. We got water from a single spigot downstairs. We cooked with firewood. And we had an outhouse. (Most of Hong Kong wasn’t like that. But as a refugee you’d be lucky to find one room for the whole family in town. What would you choose, privacy or comfort?)
But we felt like royalty compared to most of the people in the resettlement area. It was called that because that was among the places the Hong Kong government “resettled” the refugees from China fleeing Communist rule. They lived in shacks with flattened tin cans banged together for walls, corrugated aluminum for roof, and dirt floor. They waited in line for hours to use one common spigot for water. But they preferred that to living under the Communists. (Eventually after we left the Hong Kong government erected buildings to house them.)
We arrived at the U.S. to find my uncle and aunt running a flophouse in the slums. We paid them enough so at least they stopped that. But it had electricity, gas, hot and cold running water, and flush toilet. We found out that wasn’t unusual. Government built and run projects had all of that. The Watts riots later in 1965 had a flash point one block from where we had lived. Many of the rioters lived in a project called Nickerson Gardens, which had even yards with lawns. (The famous basketball duo of Bo Kimble and Hank Gathers after arriving in L.A. from Philly much later famously said, that isn’t the hood. That is the suburb.) They thought they were miserably poor. I thought those people in the resettlement areas would think they were in heaven.

  4. The captain is correct. Socialism is a religion based on theft. Marx was a fat, lazy dilettante who enjoyed fine wine, caviar and loose won=men but did not want to pay for these indulgences. He sold the rites to his book to Engels for food and lodging. He was a fat envious pig.

  5. All the discussion and all the debate will never alter the human condition. The desire to control one’s fellow humans and the greed that exists is part of what we have been endowed with. In order for our “good” qualities to emerge we have to have a basis for our moral values. Until now it has been Christianity but as the current population leave this behind, thinking they possess all the wisdom in the world, we start circling the bowl accepting corruption, perversion and flat out insanity. Folks when you take the rudder off the ship it eventually flounders. I have not seen anything of value that can replace that which made our country great, it was not islam, it was not secular humanism, it was not socialism, it was none of the ism’s. The basis for our morality and law is Biblical. I know there are self aggrandising people out there who think they were born with all the wisdom ever accumulate but guess what, you were not.

    1. I agree completely. There is no cure for human nature which is basically the idea of “original sin”. There will always be this push and pull between our angels and demons. Within us and outside of us. However, I also agree with those who say that we live in the best of all possible worlds. As Paul says, “I admit it’s getting better, a little better all the time.” Although it can always get worse, Johnny. We muddle along.

    2. I could not agree more OWG.

Although not a church going person, my value set is based on Christianity…Liberals/Democrats have chosen to ignore said values and embrace Marxism and it’s endless lists of utter perversions.

And that’s why you, I and so many others are now “De-Facto” Nazi’s – Racists – Homo/ Transphobes – White Supremists – Misogynist – Lecherous Raping filth as far as our supposed betters believe.

Seems to me it is they who fit each and everyone of those descriptions.

  6. The first act of any real workers’ and peasants’ revolution will be to liquidate both the socialists and the people who bankroll the movement, and return the property they stole to its rightful owners, confident that nothing of value will be lost.

The only debate necessary would be over the quickest, cheapest and most effective way of doing this.

  7. The problem with dedicated Socialism is the usual ratio between hopelessly insane & those that are mentally challenged….The resent polling in the USA show that only 10% of Democrats are Insane… They are effectively hived together & dedicated Communists…. The Tail wags the Dog until the dog wakes up…..

    JMHO

  8. The FAKE Indian Princess shrieks that “we don’t need any Billionaires” … “we don’t need 5 men who own more ‘wealth’ than half the US Population”. Therefore the FAKE affirmative-action Indian Princess is coming for MY “wealth”. MY paltry “wealth” built over 40+ years of working, investing, building, laboring, saving, and denying myself many pleasures to amass. Yes, I am a millionaire (hopefully multi) on paper … but still live mostly paycheck to paycheck. Not because I blow my paycheck on crap … but because I invest it and put it to work. I have been a very wise and prudent investor and have always managed my money wisely … for that … I am going to be PUNISHED by the Socialist States of Elizabeth Warren. Warren has promised to STEAL what I have saved.

Over my dead body. You say you want a Revoluuuu tion nnn nnn ? You haven’t got a clue what this THEFT will unleash. When you’ve got nothing left to lose …
