  1. Don’t worry. If Alberta will sell oil to Quebec at say $10/bbl then Quebec will allow a pipeline. Of course Quebec will then sell the oil at world prices.

    1. Quebec doesn’t have to get their hands dirty/greasy. They more than get their cut via equalization and preferred contracts. Top that with direct federal subsidies. I estimate their take at +/- $25 to $30 Billion. For Ontario that is the cost of doing business as the Quebec votes keeps them in federal government. Any two provinces that would vote a moron into federal government leadership deserve their inevitable collapse.

      1. CT, I agree Quebec more than gets it’s cut through equalization. But I suspect they’ll want more and the Churchill Falls hydro “deal” provides a good template (from Quebec’s point of view).

        If Quebec was to separate it would be a good thing. Trudeau would go with them.

      That was one of the issues of the oil war between Ottawa and Alberta 40 years ago. Alberta wanted to sell oil to Quebec for world prices and Quebec, being the spoiled brat province that we’ve come to know and loathe, expected to get it for dirt cheap.

      Eventually, Alberta and Ottawa made peace and signed an agreement. Shortly thereafter, Marc Lalonde, Minister for Screwing Alberta, inflicted the NEP on western Canada. In the long run, Quebec got what it always wanted.

    3. They are already doing that. They are using Canuck oil and charging world price.They have no intention of paying more if there is a pipeline. We have to appeal to their greed by saying there will be a lot more in equalization if there is a pipeline and when it is built make a lame excuse. Works for them.

    The Liberals won China’s help stealing the 2015 election by promising a pipeline to China. Fortunately, Trudeau’s incompetence prevented that from happening.

    What we need is not a pipeline to China. It’s regime change, courtesy of the armed forces of the United States. Get rid of the problem and only the problem—the liquidation of the Chinese puppet government in Ottawa.

    1. You are dead wrong. TMX to the Vancouver area is not designed to supply far eastern, or even China markets. Gateway was. Trudeau .gov killed that one day one, sticking it to China and other far east customers. Smart move, eh?
      TMX is limited to filling tankers to supply west coast USA and supplying crude to the Seattle area, because there is no other pipeline access from US oil fields into the area. Period.
      You can’t get an Asian bound tanker big enough to make it pay, under the First Narrows bridge in Vancouver, so that crude will be directed to US interests at a discount because central Kanader are clueless and just love beating up on uppity westerners who don’t subscribe to economic success unless central Kanader is in on it. Cue Equalization, because some Kanadjians are more equal than others. Western Kanaduh exempted. John Horgan is stupid declaring the Lower Mainland can go “carbon free”. I don’t see a lot of electric cars leaving the comforts of the Vancouver area, or even driving to Whistler in winter. I used to live and work there and only a retard would support Horgan’s “carbon free” dream and expect prices for electricity to not reach atmospheric levels to match demand.

      I’m hoping the ME blows sky high and drives prices in central Kanader and the Maritimes to the friggin’ moon. Cue the crying.

  6. I met some maritimers while on vacation last winter. Nice people. Easy going, laughed a lot, could tell a story. They were much friendlier than people I’ve met from Ontario. In fact, in my experience, Americans tourists much more pleasant and less stuck up than Ontario tourists. Then again maybe Ontario tourists only treat western Canadians badly.

    Anyway, the odd thing about the islanders was that they really could not understand why Albertans were upset with Ottawa over equalization. “They are so rich compared to us”. The implication being one of obligation. But, that obligation goes only one way. The rest of Canada feels no reciprocal obligation to Alberta. Not just pipelines but they don’t even feel an obligation for basic politeness or unity. It’s just about getting more and more money from Alberta.

    So, while I generally have good feelings towards the maritimes, I don’t see why Albertans should feel much obligation to them or the rest of Canada or Irving Oil, or Sarnia or Quebec refineries. These last few years shows how they’ll ROC will gloat and kick Alberta when it is down despite tens of thousands of Alberta workers and families in acute economic distress…but still obliged to be massive net givers into equalization.

    Confederation is broken.

    Try living where the Media is completely owned by one very wealthy, powerful company that has huge conflicts with government contracts. And hilariously, the CBC may be the most unfake news in town.

    In 2011 Conservatives had 14 of 32 seats in Atlantic Canada. 8 in New Brunswick (with 4 of the 10 ridings predominately French)

    Harper and the Conservatives lost those seats through their own incompetence.

    New Brunswick, unlike Ontario, Alberta, BC, Manitoba, Saskatchewan have never been dumb enough to vote in a NDP government.

    3 million people………..equalization of $4.5 billion………..hell, your so-called Conservative Governments dropped that much change between the seats as they squandered their trillion $ golden oily goose.

    Now, I could educate you on the losses the Maritimes suffered through Confederation, the Transportation, Manufacturing betrayals…..heck it might even be fun to talk about government help for the West both pre and post oily days.

    Maybe we can even find a copper or two for the poor farmers.

    Besides, if you have ever been out of your basement, you have, right?, you should know, that despite all its faults(lots of them), Canada is still one of the best, if not the best country in the world.

    You won the lottery of life just being born here.

    Who would want to mess that up.

    I hate to break it to you, but your politicians look just as incompetent, corrupt and self-serving as ours.

    The Maritimes is an amazing place, somewhat frozen in time. A good time.

    Unfortunately, the winds of change are coming.

    You would be wise to check out your misconceptions before they do.

    1. I would be remiss if I didn’t remind you that if you do drive this way, the secret is to fill up in Cornwall Ontario on the way here and Edmundston, NB on the way back.

      This removes the need to stop in Quebec and is a Maritime Tradition.

      I witnessed as Trudeau 1 began his Canadian Welfare Plantation in the 4 French ridings of Northern New Brunswick.

      The Liberals buy these 4 seats ever since with enhanced EI and have expanded greatly. Liberals require a vote reservation.

      Maybe if the farmers and the oil companies give up their multi-multi billion $ subsidies we can convince our joie de vivre clan to give up theirs!

      Although Southern New Brunswickers I know will be heartbroken over the loss of their Northern NB confreres 10 week work year.

      Speak for yourself. I’m a naturalized Canadian, having been born in Germany. My parents came over, with me in tow, expecting to take advantage of the opportunities that were here. We eventually settled in B. C. after living in Alberta for a few years.

      Imagine our disappointment when many of those opportunities were denied to us because those were empty promises or were directed towards Liberal-friendly parts of the country. We expected that all Canadians everywhere would be treated equally. But, to paraphrase that famous line from Animal Farm, some Canadians turned out to be more equal than others.

      We didn’t win any lottery by coming here. We expected to earn our keep and make our own way.

            The country I swore my allegiance to–namely Canada–no longer exists. I became a citizen of a country in which all of its citizens, regardless of where they lived or their place of origin, were equal before God and the law. I did not swear my allegiance to Quebec in order to be its serf and become subject to its dictates nor did I pledge my loyalty to the Laurentian Elite or its government puppets.

            Rupert’s Land is my country now.

    4. I think that only the maritimes should qualify for equalization. They have real issues and a limited opportunity to expand their economy. Quebec isn’t poor, Manitoba isn’t poor and Ontario isn’t poor. All of the big six provinces have ample population and resources so none of them should qualify for equalization except under extreme circumstances. The only reason Quebec receives so much is their politicians in the province and in Ottawa have gamed the equalization program by making sure the formula always works in their favor.

      But, Canada isn’t what it used to be. I think an independent country of Alberta and Saskatchewan would be the richest country in North America within 10 years of separation (per capita). PrairieWest’s path has diverged from the rest of Canada’s. Their isn’t enough common ground or mutual respect to repair the damage done to national unity.

      Then the rest of Canada won’t be forced to subsidize prairie farmers or western oil companies. And Alberta won’t have to fork over 20 billion dollars per year more than it receives in transfer payments from Ottawa and can pursue it’s economic interests without interference from Ottawa. Canada also immediately meets it Paris Treaty committment. Everybody gets what they say they want.

      In it’s current state, confederation isn’t working well for Alberta and Saskatchewan. As I’ve asked before, what benefits could nationalists give to convince Albertans to stay in Canada if there was an Alberta separation referendum? As yet, no one has provided any positive reasons or benefits for Alberta.

    1. Well, if were going to rely on fantasy scenarios instead of likely scenarios then I think you’ve run out of convincing arguments. Admit it. You can not think of even one benefit for Alberta in Canadian confederation.

      Anyway, the more likely scenario if Alberta leaves is Alberta having an extra 20 billion dollars finds itself free and unshackled by Ottawa’s environmental regulations, taxes, marketing boards, equalization obligations, etc. It can negotiate it’s own trade deals to sell its oil, agricultural products, uranium, potash and other resources without worrying about marketing boards, cultural content or other sacred cows. No longer being caged by Canada’s cartels, it opens up its banking, airline and telecom industry. Alberta now has lower taxes, energy prices, banking fees, cell service, airline and cost of living than any Canadian province. Like Ireland, this draws in new head offices, entrepreneurs, investment and small businesses.

      Meanwhile, rating agencies look at the rest of Canada’s massive federal and provincial national and subnational and then calculates the permanent loss of one its main economic engines so they cut Canada’s credit rating. The loss of 20billion per year from Alberta plus the higher interest rates on debt create a huge budget nightmare for Ottawa. It has to cut everything and raise taxes thus entering a viscous cycle of crippling debt payments, lower GDP, less business friendly climate, fewer services, growing pension liabilities and an aging population.

      Canadian boy asks his dad, “The country of Alberta is so rich. We had a pretty good deal when they were one of our provinces, paying more than their fair share to Canada coffers. Why did you guys push them out of Canada?”
