Pleasing Your Enemies Does Not Turn Them Into Friends

Jason Kenney takes no prisoners.

Honestly, it can’t be easy being the long-time head of Amnesty International Canada (AI), stuck in annoyingly free and peaceful Canada, having to work yourself up into high dudgeon to denounce a democratically-elected government peacefully standing up for its citizens.

On the other hand, your insistence that the burning human rights threat in Canada right now is – to use your description – the “establishment of an energy ‘war room’ devoted to defending the oil and gas industry in Alberta and a public inquiry into the foreign funding of groups who oppose or criticize energy developments in the province” can hardly pass unchallenged. Relentless misinformed attacks against our oil and gas industry have cost us thousands of jobs and hurt families from every region of our province. The cost in investment and jobs has been incalculable. Our government won the largest democratic mandate in Alberta history in part on a promise to stand up to those attacks. I will not apologize for keeping that promise.

  1. Amnesty International had a severe brain fart when they objected to investigating possible interference by the worlds words dictatorships into the the most popular government in Canada, one of the free-est countries in the world. What fools. It is unbelievable that such stupid people exist. The Americans have had their panties in a knot for three years by foreign interference made up by the Democrats. When is Amnesty International opening an investigation into the Democrats?

    1. Actions speak louder than words, and all I’m seeing is jobs still leaving, the government still rolling into the fetal position when confronting AGW acolytes, and major companies abandoning wells and the rest of the province. Kenney may have wrote a reasonably nice letter, but Rex is impressed by words. I’m impressed on promises delivered, and actions. Kenney is pretty slow out of the gate, and that tells me he had little or no plans in place, and figures he’s got lots of time before he’ really challenged. Not a good look either way.

Just for kicks you may know that Kenney and Scheer are good pals, going long ways back.

p.s. for all you kids flailing about, measure the actual rainfall not what the weather girl tells you.

  2. Yup, Despite full-blown (and you can run with that) Apocalyptic AGW, it seems the screaming greenies are more than a little worried about the prospect of truth and common sense turning off the taps on their cash pipelines.

A search of the CRA “Charities” pages has this to say about Amnesty International Canada in 2018.

    ASSETS
Cash, bank accounts and short-term investments: $2,486,862.
Land and buildings in Canada: $2,211,836
    Other Capital Assets: $2,002,403

    REVENUE
    Total Revenue: $14,568,371

    EXPENDITURES
    Fundraising: $5,087,886

    COMPENSATION
    5 employees $80,000 to $119,999
    5 employees $120,000 to $159999

    1. These organizaations are not charities they are political organizations providing sinecures for political agents.

  3. Fight back and hit really hard where it counts – the pocket book. Make Alberta families whole again!!!

  4. And Kenney throws it out the window with this…

“While we will reduce emissions here in Alberta, our greatest contribution to the global challenge of climate change”

AGW is the lie that is the very foundation of the destruction of Alberta and Canadian energy business. And he validates it.

That statement alone lays to waste the rest of the tough talk.

    1. And Kenney throws it out the window with this…

He might just be following what some wag defined as diplomacy: the art of saying “Nice doggie” until one finds a sufficiently large rock.

The way he wrote his response reminds me of a dog playing with a chew toy.

      1. LOL !!!
        oh hopefully so true.
the ‘nice doggie’ testing its bite strength.
my part Bull Mastiff had a ‘time out’ in my garden shed shortly after adopting him.
2 hrs later, I let him out and he bit the fcukin doorknob so hard with those MAGNIFICENT teeth of his so badly it looked like someone took a pick axe to it.
a friggin normal steel doorknob full of dents. THAT is bite power.

        (hmmmm . . . getting out has something to do wit dat round t’ing . . . . )
the doorknob is still there. I show it to friends and visitors.
        then give him another treat.

    2. Exactly. Kenney is nothing but a wind bag. He says he will fight back but I have yet to see any real response. Kenney will never put Alberta first because he wants to be PM. Alberta has been double crossed again and again and again.

      1. Rex Murphy doesn’t agree:

        https://www.google.ca/amp/s/nationalpost.com/opinion/rex-murphy-chillin-with-jason-kenneys-miraculous-letter/amp

The UCP assumed office barely three months ago.

Huge changes are already in progress. And many will become tangible before Xmas.

This is easily the most Conservative party to ever achieve power in Canada.

My question to “so what” et al (hiding behind fake names) is what have they ever achieved in making Canada more conservative and which politician and party can they cite that has done a better job than the UCP and Kenney in their first ninety days in office?

        1. Nonsense. He has done nothing. He is all hot air. Just like every other “conservative” politician. You are being taken for a fool again along with most Albertans. Only a complete moron uses their real name online. To use that as some sort of argument to reinforce your righteousness is weapons grade idiocy.

Klein was miles ahead of Kenney by this point. So was Trump.

        2. “has done a better job than the UCP and Kenney in their first ninety days in office?”

Talk is cheap. Kenney has done nothing. Just go ahead and try to find a job in the energy industry in Alberta. NADA.
NOTHING is happening out there. The oil and gas companies are not hiring.

You’re talking ninety days, Tulk? Kenney became Premier in April, 130+days ago by my count.

        3. Rex Murphy’s a tool and a windbag, so no surprise he’s a fan of someone similar.

“Huge changes are already in progress”

Sure they are. You’ve only been totally wrong thus far.

“This is easily the most Conservative party to ever achieve power in Canada.”

          Meaningless.

      2. So what I Couldn’t agree more with you.

They the approved political elites played us and are always 10 steps ahead.

        Kenny was a relief valve

Albertans have been screwed again and they are not alone it seems to be a theme all through out Canada.

The established political parties need to be replaced and the new parties are not allowed to be taken over like Reform was they must stay true to their roots.

        1. …none of your damn business. Secondly they have nothing to do with the argument. Thirdly, you would be more successful and respected in life if you learned how to spell.

    3. Ward wrote: “While we will reduce emissions here in Alberta, our greatest contribution to the global challenge of climate change”
AGW is the lie that is the very foundation of the destruction of Alberta and Canadian energy business. And he validates it.

You have it nailed, Ward. Albertans need a leader and a government to stand up and call Climate Change a LIE.
We need a Leader to call B.S. on this swindle and declare that Albertans are not going to take it in the teeth any more.

  5. Alberta men and women will have to take the matter into their own hands. Kenney although I had hope he would be different is looking more and more like a worthless Flack Catcher. He was educated by the Jesuits the same as PET. I really have no more trust or use for greasy shithouse rat politicians. Ottawa and Edmonton are playing Rope A Dope. Kenney is the Elite Cabal’s Relief Pitcher. Specializing in Curve Balls. Shut down rail, pipelines and highways and do a Hong Kong on Edmonton and Kenney until we get a UDI and the keys for the cell door. Go UDI. Prison Revolt on Slave Ship Canada.

  6. Seriously? You people still think a “strongly worded letter to the editor”, is a defence of the oil industry, or an attack upon anyone?

Their side has people willing to trespass, steal, break all sorts of laws. The best you got is some guy who writes nice press releases?

Let me know how that works out for you.

    1. Aw but remember that the Canadian Courts can award Land Title within/by a simple Administration action, no legal argument needed or allowed.. The SCOC practices fraudulent applications of Law….Dictatorship

SEE: SCOC Newfoundland & Labrador appeal of a Quebec Court awarding Aboriginal title to their Crown Lands
The Court of Quebec gave the Indians Title because (so said) they needed standing to sue…The Administrative directive was everything (Land Grab) the Indians needed. They won without having to sue.. Corrupt to the core..

      JMHO

  7. So, Brad Wall for PM, because he sent out a witty tweat. Kenney is “fighting hard” because he issued a press release.

Anyone wonder why Canada is in the state it’s got to? Appears to be absolutely no mystery.

I have a pile of pruned branches in my yard. They are not Trudeau, and they have issued all the same policy press releases as Scheer. Prime Minster deadwood.

  8. Every Election in Canada is rigged. Quebec and Atlantic Canada hold all the cards. Canadians in Western Canada do not have an equal 1 man/woman equal vote. So in reality for Western Canada Ottawa has never received the CONSENT OF THE GOVERNED. Canada is an illegitimate construct of the Eastern Elite Cabal. It should be taken to the World International Court and Equality of Vote Imposed in front of the world. Voting in Federal Elections is aiding and abetting this criminality. End it now. In the mean time shutdown Alberta and isolate from Canada and the Criminality.

    1. When you look at PEI and Quebec it becomes very easy to see that political representation in Canada is a joke. Canada has been broken for a long time now.

  9. Jason’s Tip Line
    https://twitter.com/jkenney/status/1171143191795400704
Commissioner Allen’s Public Inquiry on the foreign funded campaign to landlock Alberta energy has launched a website to receive information and evidence.
If you have useful information on the campaign to block Alberta energy, go to: http://albertainquiry.ca

    First response:
    @JoannaMeskill Replying to @jkenney
    This foreigner is pretty influential-
    Reported!
POPE FRANCIS DECLARES “CLIMATE EMERGENCY” AND URGES ACTION
I think every Albertan has a duty to tell the Petro-McCarthyist rat line about this ‘Francis’ character (not even his real name!)

    Alberta Fact Checker
Sorry, I’m on the UCP naughty list, can’t see it.

    1. How do you know Kenney is a Flack Catcher for the Eastern Elite Cabal. Very simple Vivian Krause has already done all the forensic analysis and handed over many files to the Government in Edmonton and Ottawa. All we hear is CRICKETS. Then Kenney launches this Inquiry. All he has to do is verify her info and take action. The Inquiry is to gather the pus in the boil and draw things out and take the heat out of the issue. So the slaves keep paying taxes and buying useless shit to support the TAX FARM. Take it apart. Go UDI Alberta

    2. Dizzy your not a fact checker, your a fart catcher. Running around sniffing this way and that till you find the right flavor.

  10. It time to stop giving Indians a veto on all energy projects. They benefit as do all other Canadians. If they wish to live without oil and gas they may do so, any time they wish. The land they live on is part of Canada and always will be. Get over yourselves. Are we pleasing an enemy that are our own citizens?

  11. Amnesty International, like every other left-tilting organization in the world, has been co-opted into the global ideological war to exterminate western democratic societies. This war is being fought on multiple battlefields, from the climate change fraud, to uncontrolled 3rd world immigration, to the purposeful destruction of the family unit. We see clear examples of these countless ‘non-profits’ breaking the laws against partisan activism almost daily.

If Kenney truly wants to win this propaganda war, he better be prepared to fight these ‘surrogate’ progressive warriors to the death. He will surely amass far more enemies than he thinks he already has and I hope he is personally prepared for the Racist/Nazi/Eco-villain onslaught coming his way.

Myself, I have never really trusted Kenney, going back to his early Harper days. I doubt he has the ‘stones’ to carry this through fully, but, I surely hope he proves me dead wrong. He’s making the right noises but is he both committed and wise enough to make the right moves, too? We shall see.

Anyways, this letter was exceptionally well-crafted, me thinks he has some staff writers well-deserving of a bonus.

    1. CO

Finally…someone that see’s clearly the CAMPAIGN against the Western Hemisphere. I would add this. Said 3rd world immigration was initialized via 9/11. I believe that was the actual reason for that Inside job. Create 10+million ISLAMIC Refugees and inumdate EVERY Western Hemisphere nation on the planet. The Smart ones said GFY.

And yea, Climate Change – Social Upheaval the other two prongs….

The Goal as initially put out there by Maurice Strong (and later by Gerald Butts as CEO of the WWF – a Rothchilds created Org): A sustainable planet with < 1 Billion souls – and make no mistake, Compliant Souls as they will ALL be converted to Islam. The perfect Control mechanism as that particular ideology is pretty much escape proof….only way out – in a Pine Box.

  12. Jason Kenney figuratively bitch slapped the “Amnesty” International bozo around the block and for good measure slapped him back around the other way. And he did it with the virtual smile and the quiet tone never leaving his countenance. I’ve read of one other instance of a Canadian politician doing something like this in a public forum – I can’t find the original online but IIRC a Liberal Senator many years ago asked Green Peace why they weren’t hounding the Russians about seals. And gave them the answer: we let them do it – the Russians would just shoot them.
The response on this forum from some of the regulars, you know who you are, is the same as always — all Canadians who won’t do as you demand are idiots, the only way for Alberta is an instant UDI, Jason Kenney and every other politician calling themselves conservatives are cucks, morons, wimps, only in it for themselves, puppets of the New World Order.
Many others who attend here have heard it all ad nauseam. Haven’t seen any of you in the streets yet. Maybe give it a rest, eh?

Oh, and if I may suggest — whether he meant to or not, I think Jason Kenney just fired a shot across Andrew Scheer’s bow.

One last thing — Kenney’s letter is not the fire and brimstone that you guys want but maybe if you were to tell Jason Kenney that you liked what he said, that you want him to keep it up when necessary and that you’ve got his back if he does, you might start to see more fire.

    1. BJG. You inadvertently nailed it, Re the shot across Scheers bow.

Jason kenney continues to mouth platitudes to the threat of AGW precisely for the reason you state.

He wants to be PM of Canada and figures being a “denier” will deny him that opportunity.

As such the actions, or rather talk he has initiated is designed for the benefit of his political aspirations, not the benefit of Alberta.

Kenny says he was given the largest mandate ever by Albertans.

Do you think they elected him to play footsie with lie of AGW?

Absolutely not. So he needs his feet held to the fire.

  13. Man oh Man!

Any day now all these tough typists (who couldn’t block a highway or plug up the Legislature grounds in protest when turdo and Red Raiche were pissing all over them) are going to separate.

    Just watch ’em….I tell you….

  14. I always find it amazing how quickly the Liberal/Con/Green/NDP Commies pile on whenever a voice for Freedom and Liberty is raised. Quote “what have you done”. We meaning Alberta Patriots know what you have done. You have not even the balls to raise your voice in dissent as you are raped again and again. Along with every member of your families. And you can not or will even raise your voice against this rape. And when someone does speak up and say what is happening and it is morally wrong and criminal, you immediately pile on along with your masters like a bunch of coyotes. You are perfect servants in Voluntary Servitude. You are the kind that would hang handcuffs on your own children and grandchildren and hold them down while they abused. I will always speak and advocate for Freedom and Liberty for Albertans. It is a dirty shame what is going on in what used to be Canada. And you all know who you are. The COYOTES always circle and attack from behind. I mean after all it is only rape, an the rape has gone on since 1905, you all have grown to enjoy it seemingly. Go UDI ALBERTA. These are not our countrymen. These are Uniparty Coyotes.

  15. Hypothesis: Amnesty International and environmental groups have virtually the same big donors. He who pays the piper, chooses the tune.

That’s why AI is attacking a peaceful, democratic, human rights respecting oil producer like Alberta. It’s all about keeping their big donors happy, even if it harms their credibility.
Fact : there is nothing unethical about Alberta seeking transparency about who is funding the attacks on their economy.

Is this “land lock Alberta oil” agenda truly an environmental issue or just hiding behind it to disguise an economic attack by competing oil producing nations (including the US). If it is mostly an economic attack on Alberta (and therefore Canada), are the Trudeau Liberals knowingly aiding and abetting a movement that harms Canada’s economy? Is Butts involved in this hobbling of Alberta? Does national economic and energy security mean nothing to the Trudeau Liberals? How about the harm being done to Canada’s national unity? What about a little concern about Canadian jobs not connected to Quebec or SNC.

Find the donors, follow the money, reveal the entire anti-Alberta network….foreign and domestic. It’s the right thing to do.

    1. If it was me in the CPC campaign, my attack ads would all start with ” What is Trudeau hiding?” SNC, land locking Alberta energy, etc. Think of the Stop Harper campaign. It became attached to Harper like super glue – the stop sign, the words.

That’s what I’m talking about. Flood the attack campaign with one slogan so it immediately pops into your head, even if you favor Trudeau.

What is Trudeau Hiding….with a huge red question mark through Trudeau’s name. Banners, buttons, signs. Start and end every speech with those words. Everywhere, all the time.. A powerful visual and an important, unanswered question that sows the seeds of doubt in Trudeau’s bullshit evasions.

      1. It’s the interweb. You can campaign against Trudeau with that attack. You don’t have to be running for election to go everywhere on the ‘net you can and post “What is Trudeau hiding?”

  16. I voted for Kenney and very happy with the job he is doing. Comments here disparaging him for the most part are juvenile tripe.

  17. Here’s a question for people: when (and I’m sorry to say not if) the pipeline is halted again by the courts, what should Kenny’s response be?

For my two cents worth I would immediately postpone (for three additional years) the closure of the three coal fired electricity plants slated for closure in the next coming years.

    Other ideas????

    1. Alberta should impose a carbon tax of $1 a litre on all oil leaving the province. Every six months it increases by $1 a litre until TMX and Energy East are built.

How could B.C., Quebec, and Trudeau object?

  18. Insist Alberta gets the same deals and opt outs as Quebec. Start with moving Alberta’s share of CPP to Alberta’s control. Because of Alberta’s high wages and young population, this move is very good for Alberta and hurts Ottawa. I think Harper’s Firewall letter is a good template to follow.

By insisting on getting the same deals as Quebec, it puts Ottawa in a difficult position. Deny Alberta and obvious double standards become more blatant, inflaming separatism. Acquiesce to Alberta and it 1) hurts the rest of Canada’s finances 2) reveals Canada’s dependance on Alberta’s generosity. There is no good move, Ottawa must sacrifice something. In chess, it’s similar to a move called a fork. I think it’s time for Alberta to fork up Canada. Canadian confederation is broken and the all powerful “benign dictatorship” PMO is becoming increasingly corrupt. Changes and improvements need to be made.

    1. I wonder if the eastern half of Canada will wish that they had better access to cheap WCS oil? During the oil embargo by OPEC, western Canadian oil was moved by ship from BC around south america to the east coast of Canada. In a disruption, will the US and others hoard oil or share with eastern Canada refineries?

From what I can tell, PrairieWest has enough domestic oil and refineries to supply Alberta and Saskatchewan’s needs. The rest of Canada has made it clear that it’s every province for itself so why share ? What is that saying about not letting a crisis go to waste.

      1. The XL is built on the Canadian side if Trump declares an emergency that should take all of Alberta’s surplus. In fact shut of the oil east and west and sell it all to the USA. There is one other pipeline down right now in USA, get that one up and make some money. Kenney better get an interview with President Trump and make it happen.

  19. Next up – Bill Nye, the “science” guy.

Bill Nye the Science Guy to visit Edmonton and Calgary this fall

CALGARY—Rolling into the province like the mobile TV stands that used to bring his TV show into elementary school classrooms, Bill Nye is coming to Alberta for a pair of events this fall.

The iconic American television host is coming to Alberta for a pair of events in Edmonton and Calgary in November. An Evening With Bill Nye, will be held at the Northern Jubilee Auditorium in Edmonton on Nov. 16, and at Calgary’s Southern Jubilee Auditorium the following night. . .

The famed TV presenter is also now the host of Bill Nye Saves the World, a talk show on Netflix since 2017 featuring discussions about various scientific issues and their place in society.

Nye has also taken criticism from Alberta’s Premier in the past, when Jason Kenney criticized Nye in 2018 for his environmental critique of Alberta’s oilsands.

    Pass the popcorn.

  20. I’m impressed on promises delivered, and actions. p.s. for all you kids flailing about, measure the actual rainfall not what the weather girl tells you.

  21. +1 for using the term ‘gelid’. This is how you do it. It’s not incoherent outbursts on Twitter suggestive of mental issues but high-quality evisceration. Too bad about that dumb indigenous development crown corporation. Just had to screw it up.

Still this isn’t nearly as important as cutting Alberta’s government. Call me when that happens.

  22. holy mackerel.
premier Kenney, I *wish* I could be as accurate and forceful aiming oh, a hammer?

this is akin to a verbal nuclear attack.
I hope mr canuckistan AI loses his fcukin job over this.
or better yet, LOTS and LOTS of financing support gone PERMANENTLY.
I did that about 25 yrs ago.
