  1. There should be a huge lesson here. You get it. I get it. Politicians will NOT get it. Well some might but they’d be crucified in the public square if they dared to say fires are not caused by climate change, but mismanagement. (BTW, after the Slave fire, Alberta’s foresters wrote a report and said “we are doing it wrong.” Lot of good that did, eh?)

The likes of the Pembina Institute, Suzuki Foundation, The Green Party, ad nauseam will never get it because they are blindered by ideology. They will never ever be able to accept hard facts. They want to blame every issue (real or imagined) on climate change.

    1. No, they get. BETTER THAN YOU DO. They do not have to deliver successes, don’t have to deliver on budget, don’t have to deliver on time. EVERYTHING YOU THINK POLITICIANS WANT YOU ARE INCORRECT ABOUT.

All they have to do is tell whatever lie of the day they need to tell, to get re-elected. After that it is all about filling their own pockets without penalty or remorse.

    2. And Global 6 o’clock news, their global warming propaganda is something fierce.
Never question it, never ponder, just straight out propaganda.

  2. Same goes for those who build on flood plains and expect flood assistance…helping build the central planning institutions even larger. Problem + reaction = predetermined solution. Better get some more doubleminded ‘experts’ on the job.

Jas 1:8  A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

  3. My father was a Forrester in Seattle and Forks Washingon, 1966-1983.
(Yes, I have seen many of the places where the Vampire movie was made.)

He told me that if they ever had a 10-year drought in the Northwest, most of the
129 million dead trees that by law are left lying on the ground in Oregon, Washingon, and California, would burn like matchbooks.
It would be a catastrophic event, worse than 20 nuclear strikes.
Our economy would suffer and the environmental firest would be violently mistreated.

  4. I detest that yank “fine writing” style. It signals that the content is not to be taken seriously.

  5. Jasper Park is full of bugkill. A couple dry weeks with a good strong wind and poof, Jasper will be burnt to the ground. Men, women and children killed. Parks Canada and politicians are engaged in criminal neglect.

    1. Why do you think they always legislate that civil servants cannot be held personally responsible. You cannot sue police forces for failure to protect you. You cannot sue a police officer, a judge, a prosecutor for wrongful conviction.

You cannot sue a politician for building the largest Guy Fawkes bonfire the planet has ever seen, and stopping anyone from removing even a single twig.

All the union fire peoples know whose property gets special protection. It ain’t yours.

      1. Kevin, many have sued and won on wrongful conviction, it just isn’t the individual responsible who has to pay the piper, we all do.

  6. PG&E shareholders got their eight percent dividend.

Developers got a treasure trove of vacant lots they can re-sell to wealthy Californians wanting summer homes in the mountains.

California Democrats got the satisfaction of seeing a LOT of “white trash” Republican voters be forced to leave the state after the fire destroyed everything they owned.

Of course it will happen again. Everyone who mattered won. The only losers were a few MAGA-hat wearing rednecks who should have stayed in Oklahoma, amirite?

  7. A $1,100 an hour lawyer “working” for PG&E? That’s part of the problem.

Will the rebuilding include sewer systems? Probably not.

And although the author states that two other California power companies only had 109 and 344 fires in 2014-2017 compared to 1552 for PG&E is better, am I the only one who thinks that is still far too many?

  8. The photographs remind me of the terrific fire which swept through the west side of Kelowna back in 2005 (I think that is the right date). The city planning department had allowed developers to build up the hillsides with stick frame construction with vinyl siding. The sub-divisions were just giant bonfires waiting to happen.
I have not seen photographs of the reconstruction but I bet the same construction was allowed for the re-building with the same 4′-0″ side yard setbacks ( a total of 8′-0″ between houses). Again, in 20 years, there will be another fire and again, people will wail “How did this happen?” Idiots!

  9. How simple would it be to not allow coniferous forest to have an unbroken path into town. That stuff is like gasoline when dry. How simple would it be to have completely non-combustible external finishes. The cost of metal or masonry might add a few thousand dollars to a house. Combustible or melting finishes are stupid in the first place. Wood shakes or even asphalt shingles – stupid, stupid, stupid. Plastic siding that melts, exposing paper or wood – stupid, stupid, stupid. How did the retards ever get in charge?

  10. Judge Alsup is a hardcore leftist sitting on the infamous 9th Circuit in N.CA … appointed by Bill Clinton. However! Alsup has an undergraduate degree in mathematics, and he has a keen scientific (and legal) mind. When it comes to decisions based on SCIENCE … Alsup gets it right. He summarily, and cleverly, dismissed the lawsuit against Exxon brought by the cities of SF and Oakland, claiming EXXON “knew” its products were causing global warming in CA … but did nothing about it.

And now, Alsup correctly fingers PG&E as culpable in the rash of catastrophic fires in CA. Why? Deferred maintenance of infrastructure. Both PG&E and the CA PUC are (in my opinion) CRIMINALLY responsible for the loss of life and property in CA … because they inappropriately allocated ratepayers dollars into categories that elevated the short term bottom line of the company. And HOW and WHY were they allowed to get away with this deadly practice? The CA PUC. PG&E plied a leftist political PUC with “investment” in “Green Energy”, “electric car subsidized electricity”, minority hiring practices, “Smart meters”, and a host of leftist policies. PG&E was enabled by the Agency created to REGULATE its monopoly … because PG&E pacified the leftist politics of an Agency that should be apolitical. An Agency that should care ONLY about delivering CHEAP, plentiful, and SAFE energy to CA households.

Now the leftists are claiming it was the “corporate” (read: capitalist) imperatives that caused PG&E to defer proper maintenance: high executive salaries, dividends to investors, etc. Rubbish. That was certainly PART of the problem, but the REAL problem is that PG&E is no longer run as an Engineering-based Corporation. It is being run as a political/corporate piggy bank (taxpayer/ratepayer funded piggy bank) that steered the company away from its primary mission. And now, the Corporation is bankrupt. Because it was hijacked by political correctitude and leftist “global warming” policies.

THAT … is never going to change in CA. Too many unicorn and rainbow “believers” are in charge of “adult” matters. It’s only going to get worse. And as a backdrop to this idiocy … CA has provided “sanctuary” to millions upon millions of ILLEGAL aliens. CA politicians are active participants in the Reconquista movement. And the current Gov. is doubling-down on CA sanctuary by promising to drain the public coffers to provide “FREE” medical insurance for ALL border-jumpers and Visa-violators.

Nothing will change. It’s going to get WORSE.
